You can run puppet show episodes as a 24/7 YouTube livestream by feeding an encoder a continuous episode playlist and connecting it to YouTube Live. First confirm you have the rights to stream every episode and every element in it—including music—and that your channel is eligible for livestreaming. “Original” does not necessarily mean every contributor’s work is cleared for continuous rebroadcast.
What you need before starting
- A verified YouTube channel with livestream access. YouTube’s live-streaming guidance says the channel must have no live-stream restriction in the preceding 90 days; check your own status in YouTube Studio. YouTube: Get started with live streaming
- An encoder workflow that can feed episodes continuously. YouTube supports encoder-based streaming, but does not prescribe a particular playlist-looping app or encoder computer. YouTube: Go live with an encoder
- Rights for YouTube livestreaming, continuous or repeated use, the relevant territories, and all included material such as music, artwork, and performances. Keep written permissions and any Content ID allowlist confirmation.
- A correct audience designation. A puppet show may be intended for children, but that depends on the content; choose the setting that accurately describes it.
Clear rights for every part of the show
Copyright generally attaches automatically to original creative work, but an episode can include separately controlled contributions. Confirm that you control or have permission for the episodes themselves and each embedded element, including theme music, guest performances, artwork, and other third-party material. YouTube identifies permission, a relevant copyright exception, public-domain status, or a Creative Commons license as possible bases for using material; none guarantees that a Content ID claim or copyright strike will not occur. YouTube: Copyright on YouTube
If a stream includes licensed third-party material, ask the rights owner to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. YouTube warns that without allowlisting, a live stream can be interrupted even when the content is licensed or the license is limited to territories where you have rights. YouTube: Copyright issues with live streams
An official upload by a rightsholder is not permission for another channel to rebroadcast it. For example, YouTube’s January 15, 2026 announcement that more than 100 full Sesame Street episodes were available on YouTube and YouTube Kids describes distribution through official channels; it does not grant reuse rights to other creators. Build a continuous episode feed
Prepare and check the playlist
- Arrange the episodes in the order you want viewers to see them. Decide whether the sequence should repeat from the beginning when it reaches the final episode.
- Check that the audio and video play through the joins between episodes and that the playlist does not contain material you have not cleared for livestreaming.
- Use a system that can keep sending the episode sequence to a live encoder continuously. The platform documentation explains how YouTube broadcasts and incoming streams relate, but does not specify or endorse loop-playback software. Choose an implementation you can monitor and recover if playback stops.
Create and connect the YouTube broadcast
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Create > Go live to enter the Live Control Room. Choose the encoder workflow and set the broadcast details, including title, visibility, and audience.
- In the stream settings, copy the stream key and server configuration shown by YouTube into your encoder. Treat the stream key as a credential: do not publish it or share it with anyone who should not be able to send video to your channel. YouTube describes the stream as the feed or ingest resource and the broadcast as the event shown to viewers. YouTube Live Streaming API documentation
- Start the encoder’s continuous episode feed and wait for the preview in Live Control Room. Check picture, sound, episode order, and the broadcast settings before making the stream public.
- Start the broadcast from the Live Control Room or the encoder workflow, as prompted. Keep the encoder feed running for the duration of the stream.
YouTube’s API documentation describes a 24/7 workflow in which separate live broadcasts can be bound to the same stream. This explains how a continuous feed can persist while individual broadcast events start and end; it does not provide the episode-looping software or make a particular setup automatic. YouTube: Broadcasts
Set the audience accurately
If the material is designated made for kids, YouTube says live chat and comments are disabled, reminder notifications for upcoming streams are disabled, and personalized ads are disabled; contextual ads may still appear. Make the audience choice based on the content, not on which features or revenue settings you would prefer. YouTube: Set your channel or video’s audience

Monitor the stream and handle interruptions
- Copyright warning or interruption: Stop or remove the third-party material that triggered the warning, then check the rights and Content ID allowlist status with the rights owner. A license alone may not prevent an interruption.
- Broadcast will not start: Check the Live Control Room for channel restrictions, strikes, or other eligibility issues, and confirm the encoder is sending to the current stream configuration.
- Preview is missing or playback stops: Check that the encoder is still sending a feed and that the playlist or playback system has not reached its end or stalled. The YouTube documentation does not establish a particular loop app, computer specification, or uptime guarantee.
- Video is live but the wrong material appears: Verify the playlist order and the active encoder source before continuing the public broadcast.
YouTube may turn off live features because of policy restrictions, including copyright strikes or matches to another copyrighted live broadcast. Check the channel’s own Studio for its current status. YouTube: Live streaming restrictions
Understand watch hours and monetization
In a statement published August 12, 2026, YouTube Creator Liaison Rene Ritchie said qualified watch hours can come from public long-form videos or archived livestreams, while livestreams that are not archived are excluded. That is not a guarantee of monetization: channel and content eligibility still apply. YouTube: What counts as qualified watch hours and views for YouTube monetization
