Downloads are optional and intended for offline listening
If you want to avoid keeping music on your device, stream over the internet and do not select downloads. If you need music when you have no connection, Premium members can download songs, albums, or playlists in the app, or use Smart Downloads. Available download space depends on the device’s free storage and on the length and quality of the content. YouTube’s Android download instructions say downloaded content requires an internet reconnection at least once every 30 days to maintain access. These are in-app offline downloads, not a promise of permanent files.

Casting is optional; it is not needed to stream music on your phone. YouTube Music Premium supports casting from its web app or from music.youtube.com to compatible speakers, smart displays, or TV devices. YouTube’s membership guidance also names Google Home and Chromecast Audio. Device support can change, so check compatibility for the device you plan to use. What to expect from ads and membership features
Premium adds music without ads, background music playback, audio-only music playback, and music downloads according to YouTube’s feature information. Do not assume that every listening mode is ad-free in every circumstance: YouTube notes that podcasts may still include ads or creator promotions. Feature availability and experience can vary by country or region. For supported app and device details, see YouTube’s supported-devices guidance.

Or let it run in the cloud
StreamNeo is a different service for keeping a YouTube channel live 24/7 from uploaded videos; it does not play music from a camera or replace on-demand listening in YouTube Music. You upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops the uploaded video from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. It streams what you uploaded, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot regardless of quality, and can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card.
For a continuous YouTube live stream rather than personal music playback, learn about StreamNeo or start the free first day.
