You can stream a vMix playlist to YouTube whether or not your Google Account has 2-Step Verification enabled. YouTube’s general livestream requirements call for channel verification and eligibility; 2-Step Verification is a separate account-security feature, not a universal livestream prerequisite. Prepare the playlist in vMix, connect using YouTube Studio’s stream URL and key or vMix’s YouTube destination, then check the preview before going live.
First, distinguish YouTube channel verification from 2-Step Verification
These are separate settings. YouTube channel phone verification enables livestreaming, subject to YouTube’s eligibility requirements. Google Account 2-Step Verification adds another sign-in factor to protect account access. YouTube’s general livestream guidance does not identify 2-Step Verification as a universal prerequisite, though an employer or other organization may impose its own security policy.
Check the channel’s livestream eligibility and restrictions before configuring vMix. YouTube says a channel must be verified for live streaming and must not have live-stream restrictions in the preceding 90 days. See YouTube account verification and YouTube live streaming tips.
Prepare the playlist in vMix
Add the video files you want to play as vMix inputs, then arrange them as a playlist. vMix playlist functionality supports items with start times, durations, and transitions. The exact current editor clicks are not established by the official materials cited here, so use the playlist controls in your installed vMix version rather than relying on assumed menu names. vMix’s training videos and version 29 user guide describe playlist capabilities.

Before connecting to YouTube, confirm the intended order, timing, transitions, and audio for every item. A playlist can be technically live while playing the wrong item, an unintended gap, or silent audio.
Choose how vMix connects to YouTube

vMix documents both approaches. Its Live Stream Now instructions date from 2021, so labels may differ in newer versions; check the current vMix interface if a documented label is not present. Connect vMix using YouTube Studio’s stream URL and key
- In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a live stream. Open the stream’s settings in Live Control Room and locate the server URL and stream key. YouTube may offer existing stream settings for reuse; verify the event details before starting.
- In vMix, configure the YouTube streaming destination. Enter the server URL and stream key from the YouTube stream settings. Use the settings associated with the event you intend to run, not a key copied from an unrelated stream.
- Check the vMix output. Confirm that the playlist is the production being sent, and verify its video and audio before starting the encoder.
- Start the encoder and inspect YouTube’s preview. Wait for the feed to appear in Live Control Room and confirm that the correct video and sound are coming through before making the event public or beginning the scheduled broadcast.
Connect through vMix’s YouTube Live Stream Now destination
- Select YouTube Live Stream Now in vMix. Follow the documented vMix workflow for the destination. If authorization opens in a browser, sign in to the Google Account that manages the intended YouTube channel.
- Create a stream or select a scheduled event. Choose the event you intend to use and check its details. If the current interface differs from the documented 2021 instructions, follow the labels shown in your installed version.
- Confirm the playlist output and start streaming. Check the vMix output, then start the stream and verify the incoming picture and audio in YouTube Live Control Room.
Keep the stream key private
A YouTube stream key acts like a password for sending video to a stream. Do not post it publicly, send it casually, or expose it in a recording or screenshot. If it is exposed, reset it in Live Control Room and replace the value configured in vMix before streaming again. See YouTube’s live stream settings guidance.
Test and monitor before and during the broadcast
- Allow setup time. YouTube recommends configuring an encoder two hours before an event and starting it at least 15 minutes ahead so you can check the Live Control Room preview.
- Check bandwidth headroom. Available upload capacity should exceed the combined stream bitrate with room to spare. Other activity on the connection can reduce available upload capacity.
- Watch and listen to the preview. Confirm the correct playlist content, stable picture, and audible sound. Continue monitoring the stream during the event.
- Verify the event’s visibility and timing. Check that the correct stream or scheduled event is selected and that it is set to go public at the intended time.

Troubleshoot common problems
- YouTube will not let the channel go live: Check that the channel is phone-verified for livestreaming and eligible, including whether it has had a live-stream restriction in the preceding 90 days. Enabling Google Account 2-Step Verification does not replace channel verification.
- The encoder does not connect: Recheck that the server URL and stream key in vMix match the intended YouTube stream. If the key may have been exposed or is outdated, reset it in Live Control Room and update vMix.
- YouTube shows no preview or an unexpected picture: Confirm that vMix is sending the intended output and that the encoder is started. Check the selected event and playlist output before going public.
- Video stalls or drops: Check that upload capacity has headroom above the combined bitrate and reduce competing network use. Keep monitoring both the vMix output and YouTube preview.
- vMix reports “insufficient authentication scopes”: vMix’s guidance is to log in again through vMix and grant the requested “Manage your YouTube Account” permission. Grant that access only if you expect vMix to operate the relevant YouTube account. See vMix’s authentication-scope troubleshooting guide.
