Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesTo loop a prerecorded yoga stretch routine on YouTube Live, add the video to an OBS Studio scene as a Media Source, enable Loop, then connect OBS to a YouTube broadcast using its stream URL and stream key. This repeats the file while OBS, your computer and internet connection remain running; it does not guarantee an uninterrupted or indefinite broadcast.
Before you start
- A verified YouTube channel with live streaming enabled and no live-streaming restriction that makes it ineligible. YouTube says creators must be at least 16 to live stream. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility rules.
- A local video file of the yoga routine and a computer capable of running OBS Studio while connected to the internet.
- Permission to use the complete recording, including music, spoken instructions, and any other material in it.
- Enough upload bandwidth for the settings you choose. YouTube recommends leaving 20% headroom and warns that connection disruptions can break a stream. See its streaming tips.
Prepare the routine and check its rights
Use a video you made or have permission to broadcast. Check every element—not only the yoga instruction, but also background music, graphics, and any clips or images included in the file. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content; it may replace the stream with a placeholder, interrupt it, or terminate the broadcast. If a rights owner has licensed you third-party content, ask whether your channel must be added to its Content ID allowlist before you go live. Details are in YouTube’s copyright guidance.
Play the file locally before setting up the broadcast. Confirm that the picture and audio are present, the routine starts where you expect, and any opening or ending you do not want repeated has been edited out. OBS repeats the whole selected file; it does not create a seamless transition between the end and beginning.
Set up the loop in OBS
- Create a scene. In OBS, add a scene for the routine. The scene is the layout that will be sent to YouTube.
- Add the video. In the scene’s Sources panel, select + → Media Source. Name the source, select the local file, and enable Loop. OBS documents Media Source playback and its Loop control in its Media Sources guide.
- Fit the image. Check the OBS preview. Resize or fit the source to the canvas so the full routine is visible and not unintentionally cropped or letterboxed. Match the canvas and output resolution to the video and the upload capacity you can sustain.
- Check audio. Make sure the source’s audio is active and the OBS audio meter responds during playback. Listen to the preview to catch muted audio, clipping, or unwanted sound before broadcasting.
- Set the output. For a 720p, 30 fps stream, YouTube’s current encoder settings page gives a recommended video bitrate range of 2–6 Mbps. This is guidance, not a promise that a particular connection can sustain it. Use constant bitrate (CBR) and a 2-second keyframe interval; YouTube says not to exceed 4 seconds. Choose a bitrate appropriate to your upload capacity and leave the recommended headroom. See YouTube’s encoder settings.
- For multiple routines. A single Media Source plays one file. To use a playlist, OBS offers a VLC Video source with a playlist loop option; VLC must also be installed. Refer to the OBS source documentation.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- Open YouTube Studio and enter the Live Control Room. Create or select an encoder broadcast; schedule it if you want a planned start time.
- Copy the broadcast’s stream URL and stream key from YouTube into OBS’s stream settings. YouTube’s encoder instructions explain where to find them.
- Keep the key private. YouTube describes a stream key as acting like the stream’s password and address. Do not publish it or share it with anyone who should not be able to broadcast to your channel. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio.
- Start streaming from OBS. Wait for the preview in Live Control Room, then check the picture, audio, and stream health. If possible, test first with a private or unlisted broadcast and verify what viewers will see on the watch page.
- When the preview is correct, start the broadcast in Live Control Room. Keep an eye on stream health and the public watch page while it is running.
Plan the end and the archive
Looping a file only repeats media while OBS is playing it. It does not keep the computer powered, restart OBS after a failure, or restore a lost internet connection. Decide in advance who will monitor the broadcast and how it will be stopped.

YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Its encoder instructions do not establish that streams lasting 12 hours or longer will be archived in full, so do not rely on a complete automatic archive for a longer broadcast. Save the original routine separately and plan how you will preserve or publish any recording you need. When you finish, stop the broadcast in YouTube and then stop the encoder; YouTube’s live streaming tips advise stopping the encoder after the event has stopped on YouTube.
Common problems and fixes
- You cannot start a live stream: Check that the channel is verified, eligible under YouTube’s live-streaming rules, and has live streaming enabled. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours.
- YouTube shows no incoming video: Confirm OBS is streaming, the correct stream URL and key are entered, and the intended scene is active. Check the Live Control Room preview before starting the broadcast.
- The stream buffers or loses connection: Reduce the video bitrate or output resolution and test again. Check that the upload connection can sustain the chosen bitrate with YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom; avoid relying on a connection that is already unstable.
- The video plays once and stops: Open the Media Source properties and confirm Loop is enabled. If you are using a playlist, check the VLC Video source’s playlist loop setting and that VLC is installed.
- Viewers hear no audio or hear distorted audio: Check that the source audio is enabled and the OBS meter moves during playback. Listen to the preview and adjust levels before going live.
- YouTube interrupts or replaces the broadcast: Review the video and audio for copyrighted material and confirm your rights cover live streaming. For licensed third-party content, check whether the owner needs to allowlist your channel through Content ID.
- You need a complete recording of a long broadcast: Do not assume YouTube will archive a stream of 12 hours or more in full. Arrange a separate recording and archive process before starting.
