To show a prerecorded product launch as a live YouTube event, schedule an encoder-based stream in YouTube Studio, connect an encoder with that event’s stream URL and key, and use the encoder to send the replay’s video and audio. Check the incoming preview in Live Control Room before starting the event. YouTube schedules and manages the live event; playback of a local video file is configured in the encoder you choose.
Before you schedule the replay
Check channel eligibility
YouTube’s live-streaming guidance says the channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days. The person streaming must be at least 16 years old. Check the channel’s current eligibility in YouTube Studio, since account-specific restrictions may apply. YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance
Confirm rights to every part of the launch video
Make sure you have permission to stream and archive the complete replay in the territories where it may be viewed. Check music, third-party footage, graphics, demonstrations, and other licensed material—not just the main presentation. YouTube requires live content to comply with its Community Guidelines and requires the provider to have the necessary rights for the content, including music licensing rights. A license’s scope depends on its terms; YouTube’s general guidance cannot determine whether a particular license covers your event. YouTube Live Content terms
Prepare the replay and production plan
Choose an encoder that can play the video file you intend to use and send its audio and video to YouTube. You can use software or hardware; dedicated hardware is optional, not a YouTube requirement. YouTube does not specify universal file-playback, countdown, looping, or scene controls, so consult the encoder’s documentation for those settings. Decide whether the event will begin directly with the replay or include a clearly labeled introduction or countdown.

Schedule the YouTube Live event
- Open YouTube Studio and select Create, then Go live.
- In Live Control Room, open the Manage tab and schedule a stream. Follow the on-screen prompts to set the event details and timing. YouTube’s scheduling workflow can create an upcoming event page that you can share; viewers may opt in to notifications.
- Make the title and description clear that this is a replay of a prerecorded launch. Set the thumbnail and other event details appropriate to the launch, and check the event’s visibility and schedule before sharing its link.
- Open the scheduled event in Live Control Room and locate its stream URL and stream key. Keep the key private: anyone with access to it may be able to send a feed to the event.
YouTube’s official instructions cover scheduling and connecting an encoder, but do not give a universal procedure for loading and playing a local video file. That part depends on your selected encoder. YouTube’s encoder streaming instructions · YouTube’s live-streaming overview
Connect the encoder and load the replay
- In your encoder, choose its YouTube or custom RTMP streaming destination, as applicable. Enter the scheduled event’s stream URL and stream key in the matching fields. Follow the encoder’s instructions; field names and connection steps vary.
- Set the encoder’s video and audio input to the prerecorded launch file. If you plan to include a holding screen, introduction, or countdown, configure those elements in the encoder rather than expecting YouTube to play the file.
- Check that the replay’s audio is routed to the stream as well as its video. Preview the beginning and a later portion of the file in the encoder so you can catch missing audio, an incorrect source, or unwanted black frames before the event.
- Start the encoder early enough for YouTube to receive the feed and display it in Live Control Room. YouTube recommends starting the encoder at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start and testing the setup thoroughly. YouTube streaming tips
Preview, start, and monitor the event
- In Live Control Room, wait for the incoming feed preview. Confirm the correct video and audio are arriving and that the event shown is the scheduled replay.
- When the preview is correct and you are ready for viewers, start the event from Live Control Room. Sending the encoder feed and starting the YouTube event are separate parts of this workflow.
- Monitor audio and video while the replay runs. Keep an eye on the encoder and Live Control Room for interruptions or quality problems; if the feed drops, use the encoder and event controls to restore it.
- When the event is finished, end the stream in YouTube and stop sending the feed from the encoder as appropriate. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. YouTube’s encoder streaming instructions
Common problems and fixes
- No preview in Live Control Room: Check that the encoder is running, the correct scheduled event is open, and its stream URL and key were entered correctly. Allow time for the feed to arrive, and confirm the encoder is sending the replay rather than an inactive source.
- Preview appears, but the replay is silent: Check the encoder’s audio source and routing, then preview the file locally. Verify that the encoder is sending audio to the live output.
- The wrong video or a black screen appears: Check the encoder’s selected file or scene and its playback state. YouTube does not control local-file playback; use the encoder’s documentation to troubleshoot the source.
- The event is not available to schedule or start: Review channel verification and live-stream eligibility in Studio, including any restrictions on the account. Eligibility guidance is general; your channel’s current Studio status is the relevant check.
- The replay is blocked, interrupted, or raises a rights concern: Recheck the permissions for music and other third-party elements, including territory and archive use. Do not assume that owning the launch recording grants rights to everything embedded in it.

If you want a prerecorded launch to keep running on YouTube without leaving a home computer or encoder on, StreamNeo is a cloud service for looping uploaded videos to a YouTube channel. Upload the replay, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It plays uploaded videos, not a live camera feed.
