Instead, make the videos available to an encoder, arrange them in playback order, and send the resulting feed to YouTube with the event’s stream URL and key. For reliable playback, use tested local copies rather than assuming the Drive browser player will work as an encoder source.
What you need to know before starting
In this workflow, “playlist” means a sequence configured in playback or production software. It is not a Google Drive playlist that YouTube Live can ingest directly. YouTube’s documented process is to send an encoder feed to a live event using its stream URL and stream key; the reviewed Google and YouTube help pages do not establish direct Drive playlist integration. YouTube’s encoder setup guidance explains the connection, while Google Drive’s video help covers playback and file access.
For a one-time broadcast, the straightforward arrangement is a computer with the videos available locally, playback or production software configured to play them in sequence, and an encoder configured with the YouTube event details. Keep the computer and its network connection running for the entire broadcast.
Prepare your channel and video files
Confirm YouTube Live eligibility
YouTube says the channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable live streaming well before the planned broadcast. Review YouTube’s live-streaming tips before the event.

Make a dependable copy of each video
Google Drive supports multiple video formats, including WebM, MP4-family formats, MOV, AVI, WMV, FLV, MTS, and OGG, but playback support varies by device. For an encoder workflow, use files the playback setup can access locally in a format it supports; do not treat a successful Drive browser preview as proof that an encoder can take the file as input.
Drive’s computer help page lists a maximum playback resolution of 1920 × 1080. It also notes that video processing can still be underway after instant playback begins, that playback quality depends on internet conditions, and that third-party cookies must be enabled for Drive video playback. A file that plays for you may not yet be viewable to other devices or shared viewers. If you plan to rely on remote Drive playback, verify permissions, sign-in state, buffering, and the complete sequence in advance.
Check rights and YouTube policies
Only broadcast video and audio you have the rights to use. Pre-recorded material is still subject to YouTube’s copyright and live-streaming rules. Check the channel’s eligibility and applicable YouTube policies before scheduling, especially if the videos contain music, performances, or material made by someone else.

Schedule the YouTube Live event
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Live Control Room. Use the Manage option to schedule a stream.
- Set the event details. Choose a title, description, privacy setting, and scheduled time. Scheduling creates a watch page viewers can share and lets them set reminders.
- Open the stream settings for the scheduled event. Copy the stream URL and stream key for the encoder. Treat the key as a credential: anyone who has it may be able to send a feed to your event, so do not publish or share it.

Configure playback and connect the encoder
- Load the videos into playback or production software. Arrange them in the intended order and decide what should happen at the end: stop, return to the first video, or continue with another item. The official YouTube and Drive instructions do not prescribe a particular playlist application.
- Set the encoder’s destination. Enter the YouTube stream URL and stream key in the encoder’s streaming settings. Use RTMPS where the encoder and event support it; YouTube recommends RTMPS for the connection.
- Match the output to the source and network. Choose a resolution and frame rate the source material and connection can sustain. Set the encoder’s video and audio settings according to YouTube’s current live encoder settings guidance and the encoder’s documentation; avoid assuming a setting that works for one file is suitable for every item.
- Start the encoder and inspect YouTube’s preview. Confirm that the intended video and audio arrive before starting the live event. Watch for black frames, silent audio, incorrect aspect ratio, unexpected transitions, or buffering.
- Start the event in Live Control Room. Keep the encoder and playback sequence running, and monitor the broadcast rather than leaving it unattended.
Test the full playlist and network before going live
Run a private or unlisted test through the same playback and encoder setup you will use for the scheduled event. Test the entire playlist, including transitions and the final item—not just the opening video. YouTube recommends test streams and continuous audio and video monitoring.
- Confirm every video opens and plays in the intended order.
- Listen for audio dropouts, mismatched levels, silence, or audio that continues after a video ends.
- Check framing and aspect ratio, including any change between source files.
- Verify the end-of-playlist behavior so the encoder does not unexpectedly stop or expose an unintended desktop or blank screen.
- Check that the outgoing stream bitrate fits the available upload bandwidth. YouTube recommends leaving 20% headroom rather than using the full available upload capacity.
- Test the network and the encoder for long enough to expose interruptions likely to affect the real event.
End the stream and confirm the archive
When the program is over, end the event in YouTube and stop the encoder. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Check the resulting video in Studio after the broadcast; do not assume an event that ran longer than that threshold will be archived automatically.

When to use dedicated hardware or cloud automation
A computer-based encoder is a practical choice for a one-off event when you can keep the machine and connection running and monitor the feed. If you need unattended or recurring playback, YouTube’s verified encoder directory lists the AJA HELO Plus, a standalone H.264 encoder whose optional PlayToStream functionality can schedule prerecorded media directly to YouTube Live without a computer. The directory also lists Gyre as a cloud-based tool for 24/7 live streaming of prerecorded YouTube videos. These are optional alternatives, not prerequisites; verify current availability, supported inputs, features, and costs with the provider. The listed information does not establish direct Google Drive playlist integration for either product. See YouTube’s encoder directory.
Before choosing an automated setup, check whether it accepts local files or Drive sources directly, whether it handles a one-time schedule or continuous looping, what monitoring and recovery controls it provides, and what quality and network requirements apply.

YouTube does not receive a signal
Check that the encoder is running and that the stream URL and key belong to the scheduled event. If the key was copied incorrectly, regenerate or recopy it in Live Control Room and update the encoder. Keep the key private.
The video plays in Drive but not in the encoder workflow
A Drive browser preview is not evidence of a supported encoder input. Download or otherwise make a supported copy available to the playback setup, then test it locally. If relying on Drive playback, check file processing, sharing permissions, sign-in, third-party cookie access, and whether the connection can sustain playback.

The stream buffers or drops frames
Check whether the total outgoing bitrate exceeds the upload connection’s capacity. Reduce the output demands or improve the connection, and leave the 20% upload-bandwidth headroom YouTube recommends. Test again before the scheduled event.
Audio is missing or transitions are wrong
Check the playlist or production setup’s audio routing and each source file’s audio track. Review transitions and the final-item behavior in a complete test; a preview of one clip will not reveal sequence-level problems.
The event is unavailable or cannot be started
Confirm the channel is verified, has no live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days, and has live streaming activated. First-time activation may take up to 24 hours.
