Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsTo stream a pre-recorded video as a YouTube Live event, create or schedule a live stream in YouTube Studio, connect an encoder with the event’s stream URL and key, and send the video feed. Set repeat playback in the encoder or service you choose—YouTube’s connection guides explain how to send the feed but do not document a specific loop control. Test the loop and the full broadcast before promoting it.
Before you start: check channel access and prepare the video
Your YouTube channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days. First-time live-stream activation can take up to 24 hours, so do not leave setup until the day of the event. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility and setup guidance.
- Choose a video and confirm you have the rights to stream every part of it, including its music and other audio.
- Decide whether the event should be public, unlisted, or private. An unlisted test can help you check the playback before sharing the public event.
- Use an encoder or service that can play the video repeatedly. The repeat function is controlled by that tool, not by the YouTube event itself.
- Keep your YouTube stream key private. Anyone with it may be able to send a feed to your channel.
Create the YouTube Live event and connect an encoder
- Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. Create or schedule a live stream, set its title and visibility, and choose the event settings that fit your broadcast.
- Get the stream URL and stream key. YouTube provides these in the live-stream settings. Enter them in the encoder’s stream connection settings. YouTube describes stream keys as “your YouTube stream’s password and address.” See Manage live stream settings.
- Configure the video source and repeat behavior in your encoder. Select the prerecorded file or playlist and use the encoder’s current documentation to configure looping. YouTube’s encoder documentation does not establish a particular OBS menu or setting for looping a local file.
- Start the encoder and wait for the preview. Check that the picture and sound are correct in Live Control Room before starting the event. For a scheduled event, click Go live when the preview is ready. YouTube’s documented encoder workflow is at Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
- Verify the event from a viewer’s perspective. Check the channel or watch page and, if relevant, a mobile device. Keep monitoring the audio and video while the stream runs.
Set up a reliable repeat before going public
The encoder or service must restart playback when the video reaches its end. Because the repeat control differs by tool, consult that tool’s current instructions rather than assuming YouTube provides a universal loop switch. Test at least one complete playback cycle and confirm that the video returns to the beginning without an unexpected stop or gap. YouTube recommends testing the setup and previewing a stream before going live; its guidance is available in YouTube live streaming tips.
YouTube lists several kinds of encoder options, including OBS, Gyre, and AJA HELO Plus. Its directory describes OBS as open-source software available at no charge, Gyre as a cloud-based tool for 24/7 prerecorded streaming, and AJA HELO Plus as hardware that can schedule prerecorded media to YouTube Live without a computer. These are descriptions of listed options, not a comparative reliability assessment or a guarantee that any current version has a particular workflow. Check the provider’s current instructions and terms before choosing one.

Prepare the network and monitor the broadcast
YouTube recommends leaving 20% upload-bandwidth headroom above the total bitrate of the stream. For example, if the outgoing stream uses 10 Mbps, plan for at least 12 Mbps of available upload capacity under the conditions in which you will broadcast. This is headroom, not a substitute for testing the connection: network interruptions can still disrupt a stream. See YouTube’s streaming tips.
- Test from the same network and with the same encoder settings you plan to use for the event.
- Confirm the stream preview appears and that audio is audible and synchronized.
- Monitor the broadcast continuously, especially during the start and when playback loops.
- Have a plan for what you will do if the encoder or connection stops; the sources do not establish one universal restart schedule or recovery method.
Understand the limits of long YouTube streams
YouTube may automatically archive a live stream that is under 12 hours. If a stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all, so do not promise viewers that a continuous loop will produce a complete replay. YouTube also says DVR—letting viewers pause, rewind, and resume—may be limited or unavailable on streams longer than 12 hours. Check Archive live streams and Turn on DVR on live streams when planning a long event.

Copyright issues or policy violations can lead to removal or restrictions on live streaming. YouTube’s livestream terms and conditions and guidance on avoiding live-stream restrictions also address advertising-friendly rules and paid product placement or endorsements.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can YouTube repeat a prerecorded video by itself?
The repeat behavior has to be configured in the encoder or service sending the video; YouTube’s encoder connection guidance does not document a universal loop control.
Does an unlisted test make the stream private?
Unlisted means viewers generally need the link to find the test; choose the visibility setting that matches your intended audience and avoid sharing the link if you do not want viewers to access it.
