To stream podcast episodes as a YouTube Live feed from an Indian cloud server, schedule or create the YouTube broadcast, run an encoder on the server to play the episodes in sequence, and send its output to the event using the current RTMPS URL and stream key from YouTube Live Control Room. Check YouTube’s preview before starting the event. The server and encoder are your responsibility to configure and monitor; YouTube’s setup guidance does not prescribe an Indian cloud provider or server size.
Choose a scheduled broadcast or a continuous channel
For a one-off episode or a recurring show, schedule a YouTube Live event and connect the encoder when it is time to broadcast. For a channel intended to run continuously, plan how you will manage both the incoming feed and the viewer-facing broadcasts. In YouTube’s API model, a live stream is the incoming feed, while a live broadcast is the event viewers watch. That distinction matters when building recurring or continuous workflows; it does not make the encoder, playlist, server, or connection self-monitoring.
YouTube’s Live Streaming API documentation describes these stream and broadcast resources. For a straightforward setup, the steps below use YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and an encoder running on your cloud server.
Set up the YouTube Live destination
- Create or schedule the event. In YouTube Studio, open the current Live Control Room and create or schedule the broadcast. YouTube’s controls can change, so follow the labels shown in your account.
- Copy the current ingestion details. Get the server URL and stream key shown for the event. Use the values displayed in your own Live Control Room rather than relying on a fixed endpoint from an example.
- Protect the stream key. Treat it like a credential: anyone who has it may be able to send a feed to that destination. Do not publish it in scripts, screenshots, logs, or public repositories.
YouTube’s encoder setup guide describes entering the stream URL and key in an encoder, waiting for YouTube to receive a preview, and then starting the scheduled event.

Run the playlist encoder on the Indian cloud server
Choose and configure a cloud server in India, then run an encoder process there that reads the podcast episodes in the intended order and sends an audio-and-video feed to YouTube. The episodes need to be presented as a video stream; if your source is audio-only, decide what visual should accompany playback, such as a static show image or slate. Confirm your media and encoder support the output format you intend to use.
The cited YouTube instructions explain the destination and connection workflow, but do not validate a particular FFmpeg command, playlist format, cloud image, machine size, or restart policy. Those details depend on the encoder, media files, and provider you select. Test your exact playlist and configuration rather than assuming an example command will work for every collection of files.

Use RTMPS as the ordinary encoder path
For a typical encoder workflow, use RTMPS when the encoder supports it. Google describes RTMPS as RTMP over an SSL connection and specifies a valid YouTube RTMPS endpoint, the correct application path, and port 443. Copy the current endpoint from Live Control Room and configure the encoder with that endpoint and the event’s stream key. See Google’s RTMPS ingestion guidance for connection requirements.
Use HLS only when it fits the encoder and workflow
HLS is a supported alternative for compatible encoders, but YouTube notes that it has higher latency than RTMP-based ingestion. YouTube’s HLS ingestion guidance specifies TS segments lasting 1–4 seconds, HTTPS POST/PUT requests, and a rolling playlist with no more than five outstanding segments. Byte ranges and non-HTTPS encryption are unsupported. HLS is not inherently a better choice for a podcast playlist; use it when your encoder and codec requirements justify the segmented workflow and its latency trade-off.

Test the feed before starting the event
- Start the encoder on the cloud server and confirm it is using the event’s current RTMPS URL and key.
- Wait for YouTube’s Live Control Room preview before starting the event.
- Check that both audio and visuals are present, that episodes change in the intended order, and that transitions, silences, and gaps look and sound acceptable.
- Test how the feed behaves after an encoder restart. If you intend to run continuously, decide how you will monitor and recover the encoder, playlist, and server connection; the YouTube connection guide does not promise that these components will stay up on their own.
- Once the preview and checks are satisfactory, start the event in Live Control Room.
Plan the server and operating costs with current provider details
YouTube’s documentation does not choose an Indian cloud region, server size, bandwidth plan, or monthly cost. Those choices depend on the encoder and media workload, as well as the provider’s current regional availability and outbound bandwidth or egress charges. Check those details directly with the provider before estimating cost. A cloud server still requires you to manage the encoder process and plan for monitoring and recovery.
Know what YouTube says about archiving
YouTube’s encoder guidance states: “All streams under 12 hours will be automatically archived.” The condition is specifically streams under 12 hours; do not rely on that statement as a promise that a longer continuous broadcast will be archived in full. If an archive matters, plan around that limit and check the options currently shown for your event.
