You can schedule a Windows PC to start an encoder at a chosen time and send a podcast archive to YouTube Live. First set up and schedule the broadcast in YouTube Live Control Room, then configure an encoder that can play your archive as a live audio-and-video stream. Use Windows Task Scheduler to launch that encoder or a batch file. For a scheduled YouTube broadcast, be prepared to check its preview and click Go live; scheduling the Windows task does not itself complete that YouTube step.
What you need before scheduling
- A YouTube channel with live streaming enabled. YouTube says first-time enablement may take up to 24 hours, so do not leave activation until the broadcast is about to start. YouTube’s encoder streaming instructions
- A Windows PC that will be on and able to run the scheduled task, an encoder that can play the archive and send a live stream, and access to the archive file.
- The YouTube stream URL and stream key for the broadcast. Treat the key like a password: do not share it or leave it in a publicly accessible script.
- A video signal as well as the podcast audio. A podcast file may be audio-only, while YouTube Live is an audio-and-video workflow. Choose a visual, such as a static image or waveform, using an encoder that supports it, then validate that output with YouTube before relying on it.
YouTube supports software and hardware encoders. A hardware encoder is an optional alternative; it is not required for this Windows Task Scheduler method. The encoder must accept your archive format, produce the needed audio and video, and expose the YouTube ingestion settings. YouTube Help
Set up the YouTube broadcast
- Open YouTube Studio and enable live streaming if the channel has not used it before. Allow for YouTube’s possible first-time activation delay of up to 24 hours.
- Open Live Control Room and create or schedule a broadcast. Choose its title, privacy, and event settings deliberately; the Windows task only starts your encoder and does not set these YouTube options.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for the broadcast. Keep them private. YouTube instructs creators to enter both into the encoder. Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder
- Note the intended start time and make sure you can access Live Control Room around then. For a scheduled stream, YouTube’s instructions say to wait for the encoder preview and click Go live.
Prepare the encoder and archive
Load the podcast recording
In the encoder, select the archive as the media source and configure playback as a live output. Add a visual source if the recording contains only audio. The exact menus and supported formats depend on the encoder; the sources here do not establish a particular application, command line, or universally valid audio-to-video setup.
Enter YouTube’s ingest details
Enter the stream URL and stream key from the broadcast setup into the encoder’s streaming or destination settings. Confirm that the encoder is configured to send the archive’s audio and video, rather than merely playing the file locally. Do not assume an audio-only file will satisfy the encoder’s video output requirements without a validated visual source.

Check the broadcast plan
Set the archive playback behavior and duration in the encoder according to its own documented controls. Do not assume that reaching the end of a file will restart it or create a playlist: looping behavior is encoder-specific and has not been established here. If the podcast archive is longer than one recording, verify the desired order and end behavior in the encoder before scheduling.
YouTube’s LiveStreams API describes ingestion information and encoder configuration such as resolution and frame rate, but it does not provide a complete set of recommended bitrates, codecs, or keyframe values in the information available here. Use the current guidance for your chosen encoder and YouTube setup rather than copying unverified settings. YouTube LiveStreams API

Create the scheduled task in Windows
Choose the launch method
Use Task Scheduler to start the encoder executable if one scheduled action is sufficient. If startup requires several commands or programs, put those actions in a batch file and schedule the batch file as the one program. Microsoft’s schtasks create documentation describes this one-program-per-task model and the batch-file option. Microsoft Learn: schtasks create
Encoder launch arguments are not interchangeable. Use the chosen encoder’s documented command-line options if it supports unattended launch; otherwise, determine whether it can open the prepared project or source automatically. This workflow does not establish a tested encoder command. Do not paste a guessed command into a production task.

- PLUG IN AND HEAR SOUND IN SECONDS - USB Type-A connector with a 3.5mm stereo headphone output and a separate 3.5mm mono microphone input. No drivers, no software, no external power - the adapter is USB bus-powered and is recognized as a standard USB audio device.
- WORKS ON WINDOWS, MAC AND LINUX - Driverless on Windows 98SE/ME/2000/XP/Server 2003/Vista/7/8, Linux and Mac OSX, and compliant with the USB Audio Device Class 1.0 specification, so any system that supports class-compliant USB audio will see it. Select it as the sound output and input device after plugging it in.
- TWO JACKS, TWO JOBS - The green jack is stereo OUT for headphones or powered speakers; the pink jack is mono microphone IN for a 3.5mm mic. It does NOT support 4-pole headsets on a single combo plug, it does NOT power passive speakers, and it does NOT add surround sound - it is a stereo 2-channel adapter.
- FOR LAPTOPS AND DESKTOPS THAT NEED AN AUDIO PORT BACK - Adds a headphone and mic port to a laptop, desktop, or mini PC whose onboard jack has failed or was never there. Managed and work-issued computers can block new USB audio devices by policy - check with your IT department before ordering for a company machine.
- SABRENT SUPPORT AND WARRANTY - What is in the box: one USB audio sound adapter. Backed by a 1-year limited warranty, extended to 2 years when you register within 90 days on the manufacturer's website.
Configure the task in Task Scheduler
- Open Task Scheduler from the Windows Start menu and choose Create Task (not just a basic task, if you need to control the account and logon behavior).
- On General, give the task a descriptive name, such as Podcast YouTube Live, and select the Windows account that has access to the encoder and archive.
- Decide whether the encoder needs an interactive desktop. If you configure the task to run only when the user is logged on, that account must be logged on at the scheduled time. Whether a particular encoder requires an interactive desktop depends on the encoder; this was not tested. Microsoft documents the interactive-only account setting and Task Scheduler behavior. Microsoft Learn: What’s New in Task Scheduler
- On Triggers, add a time-based trigger for the intended date and time. Task Scheduler also supports startup and logon triggers, but a time trigger is the natural choice for a planned broadcast. Check the displayed time zone and recurrence settings before saving.
- On Actions, choose Start a program. Set Program/script to the encoder executable or batch file. If using an encoder’s documented arguments, put them in Add arguments; if it relies on a working directory, set Start in to that directory.
- On Conditions and Settings, review any options that could prevent or interrupt the task, such as power-related conditions or a stop-after-duration limit. Choose settings appropriate to the PC and the planned stream; do not assume a sleeping or powered-off computer can launch the encoder.
- Save the task and confirm the account credentials or authorization prompts. Verify that the action points to the intended executable and that the account can read the archive and any project or configuration files.
Test before the broadcast
- Run the task manually from Task Scheduler using Run. This tests the configured action without waiting for the scheduled time.
- Check that the encoder actually opens the intended podcast archive, includes the chosen visual if needed, and begins sending to YouTube rather than merely playing locally.
- Open the broadcast in Live Control Room and confirm that YouTube receives the encoder preview. Resolve any connection or media problems before the scheduled event.
- For the actual scheduled broadcast, follow YouTube’s preview and Go live step. A scheduled Windows task starts the encoder; it should not be treated as proof that the YouTube broadcast has gone live.
Plan the duration and archive
YouTube Help says streams under 12 hours will be automatically archived. That statement does not establish the same archive guarantee for a stream lasting 12 hours or longer. If YouTube’s documented automatic archive behavior matters to you, plan a duration under 12 hours. YouTube Help: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder
Troubleshooting scheduled podcast streams
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| The task does not start at the chosen time | The PC is off or asleep, the trigger time or recurrence is wrong, or a task condition blocks the action. | Check that the PC is powered and available, inspect the trigger date and time, and review the task’s conditions and settings. |
| The task runs, but the encoder does not open the archive | The action points to the wrong executable, arguments, working directory, or file path, or the selected account lacks access. | Run the task manually; verify the program path and any encoder-documented arguments; confirm that the task account can read the archive and configuration files. |
| The encoder opens but YouTube shows no preview | The stream URL or key may be incorrect, the encoder may not be sending, or it may not be producing the required audio-and-video output. | Check the destination details, encoder status, and whether both audio and video are present. Keep the key private while correcting it. |
| The preview appears, but the event is not live | The YouTube scheduled-broadcast step has not been completed. | Use Live Control Room to inspect the preview and click Go live as YouTube instructs for scheduled encoder streams. |
| The archive stops at the end instead of repeating | Looping is not enabled or supported by the selected encoder or its current configuration. | Check the encoder’s documented playback controls and test end-of-file behavior before the event. Do not assume a file or playlist loops automatically. |
| The task works only when you are signed in | The encoder may need an interactive desktop, or the task is configured to run only for a logged-on user. | Check the task’s account and logon configuration. Encoder-specific desktop requirements vary; validate unattended operation with the chosen software. |
Keep the stream running without leaving a home PC on
For a do-it-yourself Windows setup, the PC must be available to run the scheduled encoder. If you would rather not depend on a computer or home connection staying on, StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos: upload the recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops the uploaded content in the cloud and can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream.
