You can try it with YouTube’s Android app: tap Create → Live, choose Screencast, and start the broadcast. But that captures the phone screen; YouTube does not guarantee that every Android phone and playlist app will send the playlist’s internal audio to the live stream. Check your channel eligibility and test the exact setup privately before sharing a public link.
Before you start: check YouTube’s mobile live-stream requirements
YouTube’s mobile live-streaming requirements include all of the following:
- At least 50 subscribers.
- A verified YouTube channel.
- No live-streaming restriction on the channel in the previous 90 days.
- Live streaming enabled for the channel. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours.
- Android 8.0 or later.
- You must be at least 16 to livestream under YouTube’s general guidance.
See YouTube’s mobile live-streaming requirements and general live-streaming guidance. If the Live option is missing, confirm eligibility and activation before troubleshooting the playlist app.
Stream the playlist screen with YouTube’s Android app
- Prepare the playlist. Open the playlist app and have the intended playlist ready. Close notifications and other apps that could reveal private information or interrupt playback.
- Open YouTube’s live setup. In the YouTube app, tap Create → Live, then enter the stream details such as title, description, audience setting, and privacy. Labels may vary with app version.
- Choose Screencast. Select Screencast to broadcast the phone display, rather than the front or rear camera. Review the preview and any Android screen-capture prompt.
- Start a private rehearsal first. Set the stream to private if that option is available for your channel, then go live and open the playlist. Check the broadcast from a second device—not only on the phone that is streaming.
- Confirm picture and sound. Make sure viewers can see the intended screen and hear the playlist. YouTube documents mobile screen streaming, but does not promise internal-audio capture for every phone, Android version, or playlist app. If the sound is absent, do not assume that changing a YouTube setting will fix it; test the exact device and app combination.
- End the stream cleanly. Tap Finish in the live controls. YouTube says the mobile stream is archived; you can change the archive’s privacy or delete it. Review the archive and any copyright notices afterward.
YouTube describes practice mode as rolling out, so it may not be available on every account or app. If you cannot rehearse privately, do not treat an untested public broadcast as a safe test.

Choose between Screencast and an Android encoder

For the encoder route, follow YouTube’s encoder setup instructions to obtain the stream URL and key and enter them in the encoder. Treat the stream key as a password: do not share it or show it on screen, and reset it if it is exposed. YouTube lists Larix Broadcaster, but that listing does not establish that it can capture audio from every playlist app or Android device. Confirm the app’s current capabilities and rehearse before going public.
Copyrighted music can interrupt or end the stream
Being able to play a song or access a playlist does not by itself grant permission to rebroadcast it. YouTube says all live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content; if that content remains, the stream may be temporarily interrupted or terminated. A rights claim can also appear after a stream is archived.

A music license may not be sufficient to prevent an interruption if the rights holder has not allowlisted your channel in Content ID. YouTube for Artists advises coordinating with a label or distributor before using protected music in a livestream. Check YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance and YouTube for Artists’ live-stream resources, and obtain the permissions that apply to your use before broadcasting. YouTube TV’s terms also give examples of non-personal use involving public screening or streaming music; consult the applicable service terms and rights holders rather than assuming playback access permits a public retransmission.
Troubleshoot a missing playlist image or sound
The Live option is unavailable
- Check subscriber count, channel verification, recent live restrictions, Android version, and whether mobile live streaming is enabled.
- If you enabled live streaming for the first time, allow up to 24 hours for activation.
- Confirm you meet YouTube’s minimum age guidance for livestreaming.
The stream starts, but viewers cannot hear the playlist
- Check the live playback from a second device and confirm its volume is up.
- Repeat the private rehearsal with the same phone, Android version, YouTube app, and playlist app you intend to use publicly.
- If audio still does not arrive, the device/app combination may not route internal audio to the screencast. Try a supported encoder only after verifying its audio-capture capabilities for that setup.
The playlist image is missing or the screen changes
- Confirm you selected Screencast, not a camera broadcast.
- Return to the playlist app after screen sharing begins and verify what appears on the viewer-side playback.
- Disable notifications or interruptions that could cover the screen, while preserving any controls needed to keep playback running.
The stream is interrupted or terminated
- Check YouTube Studio and stream notifications for a copyright match or other restriction.
- If the issue involves music you believe you are licensed to use, contact the rights holder or distributor about the necessary Content ID allowlisting; a license does not guarantee uninterrupted playback by itself.
