Test the video, audio and connection before going live. This is a streaming setup guide, not evidence that aromatherapy has therapeutic or medical effects.
What you need before you start
- A verified YouTube channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days. YouTube’s stated minimum age for live streaming is 16; first-time activation can take time, so check readiness before your planned broadcast. See YouTube’s live-streaming requirements.
- A finished video file available on the computer that will run OBS Studio.
- A reliable internet connection with enough upload capacity for your chosen encoder settings.
- Permission to use every visual and audio element in the video, including any music.
You do not need a webcam, microphone, capture card, diffuser or aromatherapy oil to stream an existing video file. A dedicated hardware encoder is an option for higher-production events, but YouTube’s guidance does not establish that one is necessary for a simple prerecorded loop.
Set up the looping video in OBS
- Create a scene. In OBS Studio, create or select a scene for the broadcast.
- Add the video file. In the Sources panel, choose + and add a Media Source. Select the local video file. OBS Media Sources support local audio and video files.
- Enable looping. Open the Media Source properties and turn on Loop. OBS describes this property as specifying whether the file plays again after playback completes. The file will repeat; this setting does not add new content or change the file itself. See the OBS Media Sources guide.
- Check the canvas and sound. Fit the source to the canvas, then play it in OBS. Confirm that the image fills the intended frame and that any embedded audio is present and at a suitable level. Watch the end-to-start transition to catch a blank frame, abrupt cut or silent section in the source.
Create a YouTube encoder stream
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Live Control Room. Use the Stream tab to create a stream or schedule one.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown in YouTube’s encoder setup.
- In OBS, open Settings > Stream, select YouTube if available, and enter the stream key and server information. If OBS presents a service selection that does not match your setup, use the custom server option and enter YouTube’s provided server URL and key.
- Keep the stream key private. It lets an encoder send a feed to the selected stream, so do not show it in a screen recording or share it with anyone who should not broadcast to your channel.
YouTube recommends RTMPS, a secure extension of RTMP. Use the server URL YouTube displays for your stream rather than guessing or reusing a URL from an unrelated setup. See YouTube’s encoder setup and live-streaming instructions.
Choose resolution, bitrate and keyframe settings
Set OBS output to a resolution and frame rate your computer can encode reliably and your upload connection can sustain. YouTube transcodes incoming streams into playback formats for viewers; sending a higher setting than your connection or encoding workload can handle may make the broadcast unstable rather than improve it.

- Rate control: YouTube recommends constant bitrate (CBR) encoding.
- Keyframes: Use a two-second keyframe interval, as YouTube recommends; do not exceed four seconds.
- Bitrate example: YouTube’s encoder table recommends 4 Mbps for 720p at 30 fps, with a listed range of 2–6 Mbps for that row. These are platform recommendations, not a guarantee of picture quality or uninterrupted delivery.
- Upload headroom: Test your upload speed and leave 20% of upload bandwidth unused, as YouTube’s streaming tips recommend. If you are sending a primary and backup stream, count both against available upload capacity.
Choose settings against the connection and computer you will actually use. YouTube’s settings and streaming guidance are at encoder settings, bitrates and resolutions and live-streaming tips.
Test, preview and go live
- Run a test with the same video, OBS settings, computer and internet connection you plan to use for the broadcast.
- Start streaming from OBS. In Live Control Room, wait for the incoming preview and review stream health or any messages.
- Check the loop point, picture, audio level and watch-page accessibility. If possible, test playback on a mobile device as well as the computer running OBS.
- When the preview looks right, select Go live in Live Control Room if the event has not already been set to start automatically.
- Monitor audio and video quality during the broadcast. To finish, end the stream in YouTube and stop the encoder in OBS.
YouTube advises setting up encoder streams ahead of time, starting the encoder before a scheduled event, checking the preview and monitoring the broadcast. Streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived according to YouTube’s encoder instructions; if the archive matters, plan the event duration and verify the result in YouTube Studio. Keep a looping relaxation stream suitable for YouTube
A looping video is a technical playback choice, not a guarantee of monetization eligibility. YouTube says highly repetitive, interchangeable or template-like content with little creative, educational, narrative or commentary value may not be eligible for monetization. Make the overall stream meaningfully original rather than relying on a loop alone to establish value. The policy does not decide an individual channel’s eligibility. Read YouTube’s channel monetization policies.
Live-stream content must also comply with YouTube’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Service. Confirm that you have rights to the video and audio, including music; a license for one use or platform does not necessarily cover a public live stream or an archived replay.

Troubleshoot common problems
- The video plays once and stops: Reopen the Media Source properties and verify Loop is enabled for the selected file.
- YouTube receives no feed: Check that OBS is connected to the correct YouTube stream and that the server URL and stream key match the values in Live Control Room. Keep the key private while checking it.
- The preview is unstable or stream health reports problems: Test upload capacity again, lower the output bitrate or resolution if needed, and preserve YouTube’s recommended 20% upload headroom. Check for encoding load on the computer as well as network limits.
- Picture appears but there is no sound: Confirm the file has an audio track and that OBS is receiving and outputting it. Preview the file locally and inspect OBS audio meters before restarting the test.
- The live event is not available yet: Confirm channel verification and that the channel has no live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days. First-time live activation may take time.
- The archive is missing: Check the event duration and YouTube Studio archive. YouTube’s automatic-archive statement applies to streams shorter than 12 hours; do not assume a longer event will be archived automatically.
