Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesTo stream a Kannada podcast archive continuously on YouTube with FFmpeg, use an authorized video file, read it in real time, loop it indefinitely, and send it to YouTube Live over RTMPS. The core input options are -re and -stream_loop -1; the example below re-encodes video as H.264 and audio as AAC. You will need an enabled YouTube Live channel, a computer or server that stays on, reliable upload capacity, and a private stream key.
Before you start: check rights, files, and channel access
Technical ability to rebroadcast a file does not establish permission to do so. Confirm you have the rights or permission to stream the podcast audio, any music, artwork, and other material included in the archive. The rights status of your archive is specific to your content and is not determined by YouTube or FFmpeg settings.
- Choose a media file that contains the audio and visual track you intend to broadcast. The command below assumes one local video file.
- Install an FFmpeg build that includes the encoders you plan to use, such as
libx264and AAC. The example is a pattern, not a test against your file or system. - Make sure the host computer or server can remain powered on, the file remains accessible, and the network can sustain the stream.
- Enable YouTube live streaming in advance. YouTube says first-time activation may take up to 24 hours.
See YouTube’s encoder setup instructions for the current Live Control Room workflow.
Set up a YouTube Live stream and protect its key
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Live Control Room. Create a stream or select the one you intend to use.
- Copy the ingest server URL and stream key shown for that stream. Use the exact current values from YouTube rather than guessing or reusing a URL from an old setup.
- Keep the stream key private: anyone with access to it may be able to send video to your broadcast. Do not publish it in a command screenshot, public repository, or shared script.
- In the command below, replace the RTMPS placeholder with the exact server URL and private key format supplied in YouTube Studio. If you accidentally expose the key, replace or reset it in the stream settings before broadcasting.
YouTube recommends RTMPS, a secure extension to RTMP, for ordinary encoder streaming. Its encoder settings guidance lists H.264, H.265 (HEVC), or AV1 video and AAC or MP3 audio for RTMP/RTMPS.

Loop one Kannada podcast video with FFmpeg
For a single local file with both picture and sound, run this from a terminal where FFmpeg can access the file:
ffmpeg -re -stream_loop -1 -i "podcast-archive.mp4"
-c:v libx264 -preset veryfast -b:v 2500k -maxrate 2500k -bufsize 5000k
-g 60 -c:a aac -b:a 128k -ar 44100
-f flv "rtmps://YOUR_YOUTUBE_INGEST_URL/YOUR_PRIVATE_STREAM_KEY"
Replace podcast-archive.mp4 with the path to your file and replace the final URL with the server and key from YouTube Studio. The placeholders are not usable credentials.

What the important options do
-rereads the input at its native frame rate so FFmpeg sends it in real time instead of transmitting the file as fast as possible.-stream_loop -1tells FFmpeg to repeat the input indefinitely. These are input options, so put them before the-ithey apply to.-c:v libx264and-c:a aacencode the output as H.264 video and AAC audio. Re-encoding can help when the source codecs or parameters do not match the intended ingest settings, but it uses host CPU.-b:v,-maxrate, and-bufsizeset video rate-control parameters in this example. The shown values are illustrative starting points, not a universal YouTube preset; select bitrate and resolution from YouTube’s current table for your chosen output and available upload capacity.-g 60sets a GOP/keyframe interval in frames. Its time interval depends on the output frame rate, so adjust it to produce the recommended two-second keyframe interval and do not exceed four seconds.-b:a 128kand-ar 44100set example audio bitrate and sample rate. Confirm the values suit the selected YouTube settings and source material.-f flvselects the output container commonly used for RTMP/RTMPS ingest.
YouTube recommends a constant bitrate and a two-second keyframe interval, with keyframes no more than four seconds apart. Choose output resolution and bitrate from its current published bitrate and resolution table; the example values above are not a guarantee of compatibility or quality for every file, frame rate, network, or channel. The sustained upload rate must be adequate for the configured stream, with capacity left for network variation.
Adapt the workflow to audio-only or multiple-episode archives
If the source is audio-only
A standard video live stream needs a visual stream as well as the podcast audio. One straightforward editorial option is to prepare a video file with a still image or other authorized visual and the audio, then use the single-file command. Test that prepared file before publishing. A specific FFmpeg visualizer or audio-only ingest recipe is not established here.

If the archive contains several files
The command loops one input file; it does not assemble an episode playlist. Combining files or transitioning seamlessly requires a separately designed and tested FFmpeg input or concat workflow, including compatible media parameters and deliberate handling of transitions. Do not assume that placing several filenames into the example will create a reliable playlist.
Test the broadcast and monitor it while live
- Start with a private or unlisted test stream if appropriate for your channel and use audio and movement similar to what you expect to broadcast.
- Run FFmpeg and check its terminal output for connection errors, encoder errors, or repeated reconnects.
- Open the stream preview/status in YouTube Live Control Room. Confirm that video and audio arrive and review YouTube’s stream-health messages before making the stream public.
- While broadcasting, keep the host powered, the source file available, and the network connected. Monitor both FFmpeg and YouTube’s status rather than assuming the process will run unattended without failure.
YouTube recommends testing and monitoring stream health and messages. The command is a setup pattern, not a guarantee of uninterrupted 24/7 operation: power loss, file access problems, network failure, or a stopped FFmpeg process can interrupt it.

Plan for YouTube’s automatic replay limit
YouTube’s encoder setup instructions state: “All streams under 12 hours will be automatically archived.” If you need an automatic replay, plan to stop and restart the broadcast before it reaches 12 hours. The cited guidance does not establish that a longer stream will be archived. See YouTube’s live-stream setup page.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. When to use RTMPS instead of HLS
For the ordinary prerecorded podcast workflow here, use RTMPS unless you have a specific supported reason to choose another ingest route. YouTube documents HLS separately, principally for HDR or codecs not supported by RTMP; it has higher latency and more involved delivery requirements. Its HLS setup calls for TS segments of 1–4 seconds, HTTPS POST/PUT, and a rolling playlist with no more than five outstanding segments. Those HLS figures do not apply to the RTMPS command above. Details are in YouTube’s HLS setup instructions.

Troubleshoot common failures
- YouTube does not show an incoming stream: confirm live streaming is enabled, the correct stream is selected, and the exact current ingest URL and key are in the command. First-time activation may still be pending for up to 24 hours.
- FFmpeg cannot open the input: check the filename, path, permissions, and that the file is available on the machine running FFmpeg. Quote paths that contain spaces.
- The encoder reports a missing codec or encoder: the installed FFmpeg build may not include
libx264or the requested AAC encoder. Use a build with the required encoder or choose an available compatible encoder and verify the output settings. - The stream is unstable or YouTube reports poor health: compare the configured bitrate and resolution with YouTube’s current guidance and the host’s sustained upload capacity. Test with a lower supported setting if necessary, then review stream health again.
- The video freezes, drifts, or has no sound: test the source file outside the live workflow, check that its expected audio and video streams exist, and verify encoder output and YouTube preview. Audio-only media needs a prepared visual stream for this video workflow.
- The process stops after a computer or network interruption: FFmpeg cannot ensure every failure recovers. Restore power/connectivity and restart the process, then verify the incoming stream in Live Control Room. For unattended operation, the host and file location must remain available.
- The broadcast runs beyond the time needed for an automatic replay: end and restart before 12 hours if YouTube’s stated automatic archive behavior matters.
Run FFmpeg on a computer or an always-on server
Running locally avoids server rental if you already have a suitable computer, but it must remain on and connected for the whole broadcast. An optional VPS or managed server can keep the process away from your home computer, provided you are comfortable administering it and confirm it can access the archive with adequate upload capacity. Hosting costs, storage, bandwidth terms, operating-system setup, and restart behavior vary by provider; no particular provider or price is established here.
