YouTube’s mobile live-streaming workflow is for a phone camera or screencast; its official instructions do not describe choosing an existing playlist as the live source. For live camera coverage, a phone can work, subject to YouTube’s eligibility rules.
First decide what “playlist” means
A YouTube playlist and a YouTube Live broadcast are different things. A playlist is a sequence of videos for on-demand playback; a live broadcast needs a source feed that an encoder sends to YouTube. YouTube documents mobile streaming from a phone camera or screencast, and a separate encoder workflow for sending a live feed. Neither mobile workflow is documented as a way to select an existing playlist and broadcast it continuously as live video.
- Live temple view: use a phone camera or another live camera source. The mobile route may fit, if the channel and device are eligible.
- Prerecorded playlist: use a cloud playout service to play uploaded videos in order and send the resulting feed to YouTube Live. A local encoder can also do this, but requires a computer or separate encoder to stay on.
YouTube’s official mobile instructions are at Create a live stream on mobile; its encoder guidance is at Go live with an encoder.
How to keep a prerecorded temple playlist live without a local PC
1. Check the channel and clarify the broadcast
Make sure the channel can go live, and decide whether the broadcast will be prerecorded devotional videos or genuinely live camera footage. Confirm you have the necessary rights to all music, recordings, images, and ceremony footage. Religious purpose alone does not establish permission to use someone else’s material.

2. Choose a cloud playout service
A cloud playout service hosts or reads your uploaded videos, plays them as a playlist, and sends a continuous RTMP or RTMPS feed to YouTube Live. With this setup, the playout happens remotely rather than on a temple computer, so a local PC and its internet connection do not have to stay active. One commercial guide describes this service model, but it does not establish independent reliability or current terms for any provider. Check current availability in India, supported video and audio formats, storage limits, playlist and loop controls, outage recovery, service region, pricing, and stream-key handling directly with the provider before paying.
3. Configure YouTube Live and connect the service
- In YouTube Studio, open the channel’s live control and create or schedule a broadcast. Set its title, description, visibility, and other event details for the temple audience.
- In the selected service, create a playout using the intended recordings. Put them in the desired order and enable repeat or looping if the service provides that control.
- Use the service’s encoder settings to connect the broadcast to YouTube with the stream URL and stream key. YouTube’s encoder setup explains the connection process; the service may present these fields in its own interface.
- Start the YouTube broadcast and the cloud playout as directed by the service. Confirm that the live preview and public playback show both video and audio correctly.
Treat the stream key like a password: provide it only to the chosen encoder or provider, do not publish it, and regenerate it if it is exposed. YouTube’s setup guidance requires copying the key into the encoder.

4. Test before announcing the continuous broadcast
Run an unlisted test first. Check playback on a phone and a TV, confirm that the playlist advances and repeats as expected, and verify audio levels. Test what happens after a temporary interruption: does the service reconnect, resume the correct item, and restore the YouTube broadcast? These are practical checks to perform, not a claim that any provider has passed them. Also decide who at the temple can monitor the service and respond to alerts.
Can I stream a YouTube playlist live from my phone?
You can use YouTube’s mobile app for a live camera stream or screencast, but YouTube’s documented mobile workflow does not offer prerecorded playlist playout as the live source. Current YouTube Help says mobile streaming requires at least 50 subscribers, channel verification, no live-stream restriction during the preceding 90 days, live streaming enabled, and Android 8.0+ or iOS 8+. Enabling live streaming for the first time may take up to 24 hours. Accounts with more than 50 but fewer than 1,000 subscribers may have a mobile audience limit, and archived mobile streams may default to private while that safeguard applies. Check the channel’s own Live control before setting a launch date. See YouTube’s mobile streaming requirements.

What if the temple can keep an encoder running?
A local software encoder is an alternative when a computer can remain powered on, connected to the internet, and available to run the playlist and send its feed. YouTube also supports hardware encoders. Follow the encoder’s current instructions for the stream URL, key, and output settings, then monitor the broadcast and network connection. This can avoid a cloud playout subscription, but it does not meet the no-PC requirement if a computer must stay on; a hardware encoder still needs power and a network connection.
Plan the replay separately from the live broadcast
YouTube says, “If your live stream is less than 12 hours long, YouTube can automatically archive it for you.” A stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. If devotees need a replay, schedule sessions under 12 hours and keep a separate recording through an independent workflow rather than relying on a very long continuous broadcast to produce a complete archive. Details are in YouTube’s Archive live streams guidance.

Common problems and what to check
- The phone cannot start a mobile stream: check channel verification, live-stream enablement, subscriber eligibility, recent live restrictions, and the device OS requirements in YouTube Help. First-time enablement can take up to 24 hours.
- The live event shows no video or audio: confirm the cloud service is playing the intended media, its output is connected to the correct YouTube event, and both video and audio appear in the live preview.
- The playlist stops or does not repeat: inspect the service’s playlist order and loop setting, then verify those controls with an unlisted test. Do not assume a YouTube on-demand playlist automatically becomes a live feed.
- The broadcast drops after an interruption: check the provider’s reconnect behavior and test recovery before relying on it for temple hours. Confirm that the stream key and event settings still match.
- The stream is live but no replay appears: check its duration. YouTube may not capture broadcasts exceeding 12 hours; use shorter sessions and a separate recording if a replay matters.
- A video or audio track is blocked or claimed: verify the rights and YouTube status for each item. Replace or remove material the channel is not authorized to stream.
