To stream a continuous nature video playlist on YouTube Live, prepare footage you have the rights to use, create a YouTube broadcast, and send it through an encoder. You can run the encoder on your own computer or use a cloud service built for looping prerecorded video. Before starting, verify that your channel can livestream, protect your stream key, and test the complete video-and-audio path.
Before you start: check channel access and rights
Enable live streaming in advance
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days. If this is your first time enabling live streaming, activation may take up to 24 hours. Check eligibility and turn the feature on before planning your broadcast. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
Clear every video and audio element
Confirm that you may stream and archive the footage, soundtrack, and ambient recordings in the territories where viewers may access them. Keep license records. A license alone may not prevent a live interruption: YouTube says a rights owner may also need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches and may replace the picture with a placeholder, issue a warning, or interrupt or terminate a stream if matched material remains or a strike is issued. Review YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.
YouTube’s livestream terms state: “You represent and warrant that you have all necessary rights for the exploitation of the Live Content on the Google Services throughout the world, including, without limitation, music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers (including public performance licenses) and any other royalty participants.” Read the livestream terms and conditions and make sure your permissions cover the intended use.

Prepare the nature-video playlist
Organize and check your source files
Put the clips in the order you want them played and make sure the encoder or hosting method you choose can loop that playlist. Preview the full sequence, paying particular attention to audio levels, black frames, abrupt transitions, and gaps between clips. If you are combining video with separate nature sounds or music, clear those rights separately.
Choose a sustainable output
Decide on a resolution and frame rate that the encoder and upload connection can sustain. Higher settings are not automatically better for a long-running ambient channel if they cause dropped frames or repeated buffering. YouTube’s published bitrate figures are recommendations, not a guarantee that a particular computer, encoder, or connection will remain stable.

Create the YouTube broadcast and connect an encoder
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Create > Go live to open the Live Control Room. Create a broadcast or select the stream setup you intend to use. YouTube’s encoder setup guide covers this workflow.
- In the stream settings, find the stream URL and stream key. Enter them in the corresponding fields in your encoder. The key tells the encoder where to send the feed and lets YouTube accept it; treat it as a password, and do not publish or share it. See YouTube’s stream-settings guidance.
- Choose an encoder workflow that can play your prepared playlist continuously. Configure its video, audio, and delivery settings, then start a test transmission before making the broadcast public.
- Check YouTube’s incoming preview and stream-health indicators. Confirm the picture and sound are present, clips change as expected, and the broadcast is accessible with the intended visibility setting.
Set encoder delivery and video quality
YouTube recommends RTMPS, an encrypted extension of RTMP. Its general encoder guidance lists RTMP/RTMPS ingestion and H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 codecs, with frame rates up to 60 fps. For a straightforward playlist setup, use the simplest delivery mode supported reliably by your encoder; prerecorded footage does not require HLS.
| Setting | YouTube guidance | Practical use |
|---|---|---|
| Rate control | CBR is recommended | Use constant bitrate when available, then test for stability. |
| Keyframe interval | 2 seconds recommended; do not exceed 4 seconds | Set the encoder’s keyframe interval accordingly. |
| 720p at 60 fps, H.264 | 8 Mbps recommended | Use only if your sustained upload can support it reliably. |
| 720p at 30 fps, H.264 | 5 Mbps recommended | A lower-bandwidth option than 720p at 60 fps. |
These are YouTube-published recommendations; consult its current encoder settings, bitrate, and resolution table for the full set of codec and resolution combinations. Check your upload speed and leave headroom rather than configuring the stream at the edge of what the connection can deliver.

When HLS is relevant
HLS is an alternative for compatible encoders and use cases, not a requirement for a prerecorded playlist. YouTube’s HLS setup requires TS segments of 1–4 seconds, HTTPS POST/PUT, and a rolling playlist with no more than five outstanding segments; byte range is unsupported. YouTube notes that HLS has higher latency because video is sent in segments. OBS is among the encoders listed as supporting HLS output. See YouTube’s HLS setup instructions and use this path only when your encoder and workflow call for it.
Test and monitor the continuous stream
Run a full-path test
- Verify that YouTube receives the intended stream and that the preview shows a stable picture.
- Listen for missing, distorted, or unexpectedly loud audio.
- Watch at least one playlist transition and confirm playback continues into the next item.
- Check the broadcast from a viewer’s perspective and confirm its access setting is correct.
- Check stream health and monitor the broadcast while it is live. YouTube’s live streaming tips recommend testing and monitoring stream quality.
Plan for the limits of a local setup
With a local encoder, continuous operation depends on the computer staying on, the source files remaining available, the encoder continuing to play the playlist, and the network connection holding up. A power loss, computer restart, software failure, or internet interruption can stop the feed. The reviewed YouTube guidance does not establish a guaranteed uptime or a maximum runtime for this exact continuous-playlist workflow, so do not assume a broadcast will run indefinitely without monitoring.
