To loop a prerecorded page-turning ASMR clip on YouTube Live, play it through OBS: add the file as a Media Source and turn on Loop. For multiple clips, use VLC Video with Loop Playlist. Then connect OBS to YouTube using the stream URL and stream key. This repeats playback at the source, but YouTube and OBS documentation do not guarantee a gap-free boundary for every viewer; the clip’s ending and beginning matter too.

Choose the right OBS source for your loop

OBS’s loop controls handle local playback. They do not edit the clip’s audio or video seam, nor do they promise that the repeated boundary will be imperceptible to viewers. OBS documents these controls in its Media Sources guide, published January 11, 2022.

What you want to play OBS source Loop control
One page-turning video file Media Source Loop
A sequence of local video files VLC Video Loop Playlist

One clip: Media Source

  1. In OBS, select the scene where the ASMR video should appear.
  2. In the Sources panel, click + and choose Media Source. Create a new source or select an existing one.
  3. In the source properties, enable Loop and select the local video file.
  4. Check Restart playback when source becomes active only if you want the file to start over when the source becomes active again. This is different from Loop, which repeats the file when playback reaches its end. If you switch scenes or hide and show the source, activation behavior may affect where playback resumes.
  5. Confirm the video and audio appear in the OBS preview and meters, then watch it through at least one complete playback and loop boundary.

Several clips: VLC Video

  1. Install VLC before adding the source. OBS requires VLC for the VLC Video source; if you use 64-bit OBS, install 64-bit VLC.
  2. In the Sources panel, click + and choose VLC Video.
  3. Add the clips in the order you want them to play, then enable Loop Playlist.
  4. Check the preview and audio as the source moves between clips and reaches the end of the playlist. OBS describes this control as specifying whether the source should restart when it has run out of media files.

Prepare the clip so the repeat sounds natural

Looping restarts the file; it cannot conceal a pause, abrupt cut, change in room tone, or sudden level shift that is already present between the end and beginning. Review the actual join before going live. For page-turning ASMR, listen for a quiet interval that becomes conspicuous on repeat, a cut-off paper rustle, or a change in background noise. Adjust the edit if needed, then review the revised join again.

  • Use a clip whose ending can meet its beginning naturally, or make an edit designed to smooth that transition.
  • Listen at a realistic playback level, not only while watching the OBS meters. A meter can show signal without revealing an unpleasant seam.
  • If the source contains silence at either end, decide whether that pause is intentional; looping will repeat it.
  • Keep a microphone in mind when recording the original page sounds, but it is not needed just to stream a prerecorded file.

Connect OBS to YouTube Live

YouTube’s encoder setup guide explains how to connect a streaming encoder. The live stream settings guide covers the stream URL, key, and viewer controls.

  1. Open YouTube Live Control Room in the channel you intend to use. Create a stream or select the scheduled stream you have prepared.
  2. Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for that stream, then enter them in OBS’s streaming settings. Follow YouTube’s current encoder instructions for the exact settings screen shown in your account.
  3. Keep the key private. YouTube says, “Stream keys are like your YouTube stream’s password and address.” Do not post it, share it, or expose it in a recording or screenshot.
  4. Start streaming from OBS and check the YouTube preview. For a scheduled stream, YouTube’s encoder instructions say to wait until the preview appears, then click Go live in Live Control Room.
  5. Watch the preview and monitor the OBS source and audio while the stream is running. Confirm the stream is going to the intended live event before leaving it unattended.

What “without a restart gap” can—and cannot—mean

The OBS loop setting repeats local media after playback ends. The official OBS and YouTube pages cited here do not promise frame-accurate or audio-seamless playback at the loop boundary as experienced by every YouTube viewer. A carefully edited source seam is therefore part of the solution; do not treat the checkbox as a guarantee of a perfectly invisible transition.

YouTube’s DVR feature lets viewers pause, rewind, and resume a live stream. That is a viewer control, not a way to make the source loop seamless. An encoder stream also creates a live watch page; it is distinct from uploading a video or using a playlist player for ordinary replay.

Choose RTMP for the ordinary OBS workflow; HLS is a special case

For a standard encoder setup, use the stream URL and key provided in YouTube Live Control Room. You do not need HLS just to loop a local video in OBS.

YouTube documents HLS for HDR streams or codecs that RTMP does not support. Its HLS instructions describe higher latency because the stream is sent in segments, and specify 1–4 second segments, TS format, a rolling playlist with at most five outstanding segments, and HTTPS POST/PUT. These are HLS delivery requirements, not settings you need to enable an OBS media loop. See YouTube’s HLS setup guide before choosing that path.

Check YouTube’s live eligibility and archive limit

As of October 3, 2026, YouTube’s live-streaming help page says a channel must be verified, must not have live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, and the streamer must be at least 16 years old. Check eligibility in YouTube Studio because platform requirements can change.

YouTube’s encoder guide says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not assume that the same automatic archive behavior applies to streams lasting 12 hours or longer.

Troubleshooting common loop and connection problems

Symptom Likely cause What to check
The clip stops at the end. Loop is disabled, or the wrong source is playing. Open the Media Source properties and confirm Loop is enabled. For a playlist, confirm Loop Playlist is enabled on a VLC Video source.
Playback starts over after switching scenes. The source’s activation behavior is restarting playback. Review Restart playback when source becomes active and how the source is shown or hidden in your scenes. Do not confuse this setting with end-of-file Loop.
VLC Video does not appear in the source list. VLC may not be installed, or its architecture may not match OBS. Install VLC; for 64-bit OBS, use 64-bit VLC, then check the source list again.
The loop repeats, but the join is audible or visible. The source file has a perceptible difference between its end and beginning. Review and edit the file’s seam. The loop control repeats the media; it does not repair the edit.
YouTube does not show the encoder preview. The encoder may not be connected to the intended stream, or its URL/key may be incorrect. Verify the stream URL and key in Live Control Room and OBS, keep the key private, and follow YouTube’s current encoder steps. For a scheduled event, wait for the preview before clicking Go live.
The stream is live, but viewers can pause or rewind. YouTube DVR is available for the stream. DVR is a viewer feature. It does not change how OBS loops the source.

Or let it run in the cloud

If you want the prerecorded ASMR video to keep streaming to YouTube without leaving a computer on at home, StreamNeo runs the uploaded video from the cloud. The setup is: upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It plays uploaded videos, not a live camera feed.

  • Nothing has to stay on at home; the stream runs in the cloud.
  • Your upload streams as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot, with no re-encode or quality tiers.
  • StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream.
  • The first day is free with no card, one free day per account.
  • Monthly: $9.99 per month.

Each slot includes one always-on stream, 10 GB storage per slot pooled across active slots, 24/7 looping and playlists, and StreamNeo team support. See StreamNeo for details, or start the free first day.
