You can stream archived church services on YouTube Live by scheduling a YouTube event and sending it a video feed from an encoder or playback system configured to play the recordings. The scheduled event does not itself queue or loop archived videos: you must choose and test a separate playback method. Before going live, confirm the channel is eligible, secure rights for the recordings and music, and test the feed and archive plan.
What you need to set up
- A YouTube channel that is eligible to livestream. YouTube’s live-streaming help says the channel must be verified and must not have a live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days. Check your current eligibility in YouTube Studio because platform requirements can change. YouTube: Get started with live streaming
- A scheduled YouTube Live event and its stream URL and stream key.
- An encoder or playback system that sends the archived service video and audio to YouTube. YouTube documents encoder-based streams, but does not document a native continuous scheduler for archived-video playlists.
- Archived service files and permission to rebroadcast everything in them, including music and other third-party material.
Schedule the YouTube Live event
- In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and choose Manage to schedule a stream. Enter the event title, scheduled time, visibility, and other metadata. YouTube’s current interface may change, so follow the labels shown in Studio. YouTube: Get started with live streaming
- Choose an encoder workflow. Copy the stream URL and stream key shown in Live Control Room into the encoder. The encoder sends the audiovisual feed; scheduling the event only creates the YouTube event and watch page.
- Keep the stream key private. YouTube describes it as password-like: anyone with access may be able to send a feed to your event. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.
Set up playback for the archived services
Use a playback source that can send your recordings through the encoder as a continuous feed. YouTube’s cited guidance explains how to connect an encoder, but does not certify any particular scheduler, playlist application, device, or restart behavior for archived videos.
Configure and test the sequence
- Select the service files and confirm the playback order, transitions, and whether the final recording should loop back to the first or stop.
- Test each file’s video and audio through the selected playback system and encoder. Check for missing audio, unintended gaps, abrupt transitions, or an unsupported file format.
- Test the schedule and unattended behavior, including what happens after a playback error, network loss, or power interruption. Do not assume a selected tool will restart or resume unless you have verified it.
- Keep a local copy of the recordings as a backup. YouTube recommends keeping a local archive as well. YouTube: Archive live streams
Choose software or hardware based on the task
YouTube names software encoders, including OBS for HLS output, and says professional-grade hardware encoders are an option for higher-production streams. That does not establish that OBS or a specific hardware model will schedule and loop archived services unattended. Verify prerecorded-file playback, scheduling, restart behavior, and backup capability for the exact system you choose. YouTube: Choose a live encoder YouTube: Live encoder settings, bitrates and resolutions
Start the stream and check it live
- Start the encoder early enough to inspect the incoming feed before the service is due to begin.
- Check the Live Control Room preview for both picture and sound, then check the event on its watch page and on a mobile device.
- Monitor the stream while it is running. YouTube recommends checking stream health and keeping a local archive; those checks do not guarantee uninterrupted playback. YouTube: Archive live streams
- Keep the local recordings and any locally recorded output available in case the live feed or YouTube archive is incomplete.
Plan around YouTube’s 12-hour archive limit
YouTube says streams lasting less than 12 hours can be automatically archived. If a stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all. A continuous schedule that runs beyond that point should therefore not rely on YouTube to preserve a complete recording. Plan shorter events or segments when an on-demand copy matters, and retain your own local archive. YouTube: Archive live streams

Confirm rights for the recordings and music
The church is responsible for having the rights needed to use its live content on Google services. YouTube’s livestream terms expressly include music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers, and other royalty participants, and require compliance with Community Guidelines and applicable laws. YouTube: Livestream terms and conditions
Review the actual permissions for each archived service, including music, performances, images, and other third-party material. Confirm that each permission covers rebroadcast as a YouTube live feed, the relevant territories, and the resulting on-demand archive. YouTube’s general terms do not establish the scope of a particular church’s licenses.

Troubleshoot common problems
| Symptom | What to check | Practical response |
|---|---|---|
| No incoming picture or sound in Live Control Room | Confirm the encoder has the correct stream URL and key, and that the playback source is actually sending its output. | Recheck the values in YouTube Studio and the encoder, then inspect the encoder preview before starting the scheduled event. |
| Feed appears in preview, but the event is not accessible as expected | Check the event’s visibility and watch page, and test access on another device. | Correct the event settings in Studio and verify the intended audience can open it. |
| A recording has no sound, gaps, or a bad transition | Check the source file, playback sequence, audio routing, and transition settings. | Test the whole sequence through the selected playback system before relying on it unattended. |
| Playback stops after an interruption | Restart and recovery behavior depends on the chosen playback system; YouTube’s encoder guidance does not guarantee automatic recovery of that system. | Test network and power interruption scenarios and arrange a way to monitor and restart the feed. |
| YouTube does not provide a complete archive | Check whether the event lasted more than 12 hours and whether a local recording exists. | Use shorter segments when YouTube’s archive is needed and preserve a local copy. |
| Music or other material raises a rights concern | Check the specific permission for live rebroadcast and on-demand availability. | Resolve licensing questions with the rights holder or qualified counsel before streaming. |
Or let it run in the cloud
For a church that wants archived videos to keep streaming to YouTube without leaving a computer running at home, StreamNeo is an option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops uploaded videos in the cloud; it does not stream from a camera or send to platforms other than YouTube. The computer and home connection do not have to stay on. It streams the uploaded video as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. The monthly option is $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo, then start your free day.
