You can keep reading music available on YouTube around the clock by sending a rights-cleared music-and-visual feed through a stable encoder connection. Before you build it, decide whether listeners need a genuinely continuous broadcast or reliable replays: YouTube says a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all, and its DVR rewind may be limited or unavailable beyond that length.
Choose a continuous stream or shorter sessions
A 24/7 feed is useful when the priority is having music available whenever someone opens the channel. It is less suitable when every broadcast must be available afterward as a complete replay. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, while streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. DVR rewind may also be limited or unavailable on streams longer than 12 hours. YouTube’s archive guidance and DVR guidance explain these limits.

If a complete replay matters, schedule sessions to end before they reach 12 hours, check the resulting archive, and keep a local recording as a backup. The threshold is not a guarantee that every shorter stream will archive successfully.
Clear the music rights before building the feed
Use music only when the relevant rights explicitly cover your intended use. Check that permission or the license covers YouTube livestreaming, the territories where you expect listeners, monetization if planned, archiving, and synchronizing the music with your visuals. Attribution by itself is not permission, and a label such as “copyright-free” does not establish what a particular track’s license allows.

YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A match can cause the stream to be replaced by a placeholder and prompt you to stop using the material; if it remains, the stream can be interrupted or terminated. Even when you have a license, YouTube says the rights owner may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist to avoid interruption. YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams describes this distinction.
If a label or distributor controls the music, coordinate with it before going live. YouTube for Artists recommends that creators planning to use copyright-protected music in a live stream work with their label or distributor. The platform’s guidance does not determine whether your particular license is sufficient; that depends on the rights, territory, recording, and license wording.

Prepare your YouTube channel
- Verify the channel and enable live streaming. Do this ahead of your intended launch, not at the last minute. YouTube’s current eligibility guidance says the channel must be verified, must not have live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, and the streamer must be at least 16. Check YouTube’s live-streaming access requirements for current availability and account status.
- Choose a stream format. Decide whether you will run a continuous feed or split it into sessions based on the archive and rewind limits above.
- Prepare a visual loop. Combine the music with the visual you have permission to use, such as a still image or a simple animated background. Treat the visuals as a separate rights question: permission for a recording does not necessarily grant rights to artwork or video shown alongside it.
- Choose an encoder. YouTube’s encoder workflow is intended for composed broadcasts, including overlays. A software encoder on a computer is a practical starting point; a professional hardware encoder is an option for higher-production-value events, not a requirement for a static music loop. YouTube says expensive equipment is not necessary to get started. See its encoder setup guidance.
Build and test the broadcast
- Load the music and visual into your encoder. Set the playlist or loop to play continuously. Check that the transition from the final item back to the first does not leave a long silence or unintended black screen.
- Connect the encoder to YouTube using the channel’s stream key. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room, create or select the stream, and copy its stream key into the encoder’s YouTube/RTMP destination settings. Treat the key like a password: do not show it on screen or share it. YouTube’s encoder instructions cover the connection workflow; exact labels can vary by encoder.
- Leave upload headroom. Your available upload capacity should exceed the encoder’s outgoing bitrate and leave room for fluctuations and other network traffic. YouTube recommends 20% headroom in its general streaming tips. A connection that barely meets the stream’s bitrate can still stall when the network varies.
- Preview before going live. Start the encoder and inspect the preview in Live Control Room. Confirm that the audio is audible and continuous, the video is present, and the stream health indicators do not show a problem before you make the broadcast public.
- Test the whole loop and recovery plan. Let the feed run long enough to check playlist transitions, audio levels, and the stability of the upload connection. Decide who or what will notice an encoder, power, or network interruption and restart the broadcast. YouTube’s guidance recommends monitoring stream health and checking archive integrity; it does not promise uninterrupted 24/7 availability.
Keep the channel and replay usable
- Monitor the Live Control Room for stream-health warnings and check the archive after each session that should have been saved.
- For sessions where the replay is important, make a local recording as a fallback and end the live session before 12 hours rather than relying on YouTube to preserve a longer broadcast.
- For an always-on feed, make the visual identify the channel and music clearly without implying that the tracks are your original work unless they are.
- Recheck the rights for any music or visual you add later; permission for one track or asset does not automatically cover the rest of a playlist.
Troubleshooting common problems
