You can turn off many non-sponsored suggestions on an Echo Show, but Amazon says sponsored ads cannot be disabled completely. Switch off unwanted home-screen categories, turn off interest-based ad personalization if you prefer, and skip or temporarily hide individual sponsored ads.
First, identify what is appearing on the screen
Sponsored ads and home-screen suggestions use different controls. Amazon says sponsored ads are marked “Sponsored.” Other items—such as Amazon Recommendations, Your Frequent Orders, and Explore Local Places—are home-screen content categories you can manage separately.
| What you see | How to recognize it | What you can do |
|---|---|---|
| Sponsored ad | Marked “Sponsored” | Skip it, hide it temporarily, or change interest-based ad personalization. Amazon says you cannot turn off these ads entirely. |
| Home-screen suggestion | Not marked “Sponsored”; may come from a named content category | Switch off its category under Home Content Categories. |
Amazon explains these distinctions in its ad and suggested content guidance and home-screen customization guidance.
Turn off unwanted home-screen suggestions
- Open Settings. Say “Go to Settings,” or open Settings on the Echo Show. With Alexa+, tap Menu, then Settings. With the original Alexa interface, swipe down from the top of the screen and tap Settings.
- Open the category controls. Select Display & Appearance, then Home Content Categories.
- Switch off categories you do not want. For example, turn off Amazon Recommendations, Your Frequent Orders, or Explore Local Places if those are the items you want to remove.
Available categories and labels can vary by device and software. Amazon also says the timing and frequency of home-screen content depends on what you open and engage with on the screen.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesChange ad personalization
This setting affects whether Amazon uses interest-based personalization; it does not remove all sponsored ads. Amazon says non-interest-based Amazon ads may still appear.
- In the Alexa app: Open More > Alexa Privacy > Manage Your Alexa Data, then manage “Receive interest-based ads delivered by Amazon on Alexa.”
- On the Echo Show: Open Settings, select Alexa Privacy or Privacy and Permissions, then Manage Your Alexa Data and manage the same preference.
Amazon’s ad settings guidance describes this preference and notes that menu wording can vary.
Skip or temporarily hide a sponsored ad
- Skip an ad: Swipe from right to left across the screen. Amazon’s guidance says sponsored ads can be skipped this way.
- Hide an ad for 30 days: Select the information control in the bottom-right corner of the ad and choose an available option. Amazon says reporting an ad as offensive or inappropriate hides it for 30 days and starts an investigation.
The 30-day hide is temporary; Amazon does not describe it as a permanent block for that advertiser or ad category.

Adjust Adaptive Content only if the layout is the problem
Adaptive Content changes the screen layout based on how far you are from the Echo Show. Turning it off can make the display less responsive to distance, but Amazon does not present it as a way to disable ads.

What to do if the menu names do not match
Amazon’s English-language US help pages list Echo Show models from the first and second generations through Echo Show 21 (2025 release), including Echo Show 5, 8, 10, 11 (2025 release), and 15. Amazon cautions that menu items can vary on Echo Show 5 models, and paths can also differ with the Alexa interface. Look for equivalent Display & Appearance, Home Content Categories, Alexa Privacy, or Manage Your Alexa Data labels rather than assuming every model has an identical path.
