To silence a loan app, turn off its notifications in Android’s notification settings. To limit what it can access, revoke permissions separately from the app’s Permissions page. These controls do different things: silencing alerts does not revoke access to device data, and changing permissions does not necessarily stop notifications.
Turn off a loan app’s notifications
You can disable every alert from the app or, if Android shows notification categories, turn off only the categories you do not want.
Use a notification the app has already sent
- Find the loan app’s notification in the notification shade.
- Touch and hold the notification, then open its notification settings.
- Switch off all notifications, or disable only the categories you do not want if categories are available.
Open notification settings
- Open Settings > Notifications > App notifications.
- If prompted, choose All apps, or find the loan app in the list of recently sent notifications.
- Select the loan app and switch its notifications off, or review its categories and turn off selected ones.
Android’s menu labels and available options vary by phone and version. If you cannot find the path, use Settings search for the app name or “notifications.” Google’s Android notification settings guide describes the general controls.
Revoke the app’s permissions
Permissions control access to data or device features. Review them one at a time; denying a permission can disable an app feature that depends on it.

- Open Settings > Apps > [loan app] > Permissions.
- Select a permission you no longer want the app to have.
- Choose Don’t allow, where that option is available.
- Repeat for any other permission you want to change.
The exact choices depend on the permission and your Android version. For an overview by permission type, look for Permission Manager in Settings. If the menu path differs, search Settings for the app name or “permissions.” Google’s Android app permissions guide explains the general process.
Check whether the app accessed permissions recently
The Privacy Dashboard can show which apps accessed permissions and when; it is a review tool, not the screen where you change a permission. Google says the dashboard shows the last 7 days on Android 13 and the last 24 hours on Android 12. Availability and paths vary by version: look under Settings > Security and Privacy or Privacy > Privacy Dashboard, or search Settings for “Privacy Dashboard.” See Google’s Privacy Dashboard instructions.

For information about what an app says it collects or shares, check its Google Play Data safety section. That is the app’s published disclosure, not a substitute for your phone’s permission controls or a log of every access event. Google explains the section in its Google Play Data safety help.
Understand Android’s unused-app behavior
If you did not change settings yourself but the app stopped sending alerts or lost permissions, Android may have treated it as unused. Android Help says that for apps left unused for a long time, Android can delete temporary files, revoke permissions, stop background activity, and stop notifications. Review Apps > Unused apps, or open the app’s App info > Unused apps page. The latter may include Pause app activity if unused, which you can turn off to exclude that app from the pause behavior. Google Play Help documents a specific automatic permission reset for apps on Android 6.0–10: Google may reset permissions granted to an app that has not been used for three months. That threshold applies to the documented version range; do not treat it as a universal Android timer. To review or adjust the setting, check Play Protect’s Permissions for unused apps area or the app-specific Remove permissions if app isn’t used control. See Google Play Protect’s instructions.
Separately, Android Developers says apps targeting Android 11 or later can have sensitive runtime permissions automatically reset after they have not been used for a few months. The technical guidance also says apps can relinquish runtime permissions they no longer need starting with Android 13. What changing phone settings does—and does not do
Revoking a permission can limit a feature that relies on it. Android Developers advises app makers to let an app continue gracefully when a user denies or revokes a needed permission, potentially by disabling that feature. Which permissions a particular loan app needs is app-specific, so consider the feature trade-off before changing each permission.
Notification and permission settings are device controls. The Android guidance cited here does not establish that changing them cancels a loan, closes a borrower account, or updates a lender’s records. Handle any account, repayment, or servicing matter through the lender’s appropriate channel.
