There is no verified IRL Pro setting that prevents a YouTube live stream from restarting when you change upload settings mid-broadcast. The available official guidance does not establish that changing resolution, frame rate, bitrate, or another upload setting necessarily causes a restart, either. To reduce risk, set and test your stream configuration before going live; if the stream drops, determine whether it is a reconnect, an ingest interruption, or a new YouTube live event before assuming the cause.
First determine what “restart” means
A dropped broadcast indicator in IRL Pro, a temporary ingest interruption shown in YouTube Live Control Room, and a new or restarted YouTube event are not necessarily the same thing. The available guidance does not establish that one always causes another. Note what viewers see and what each dashboard reports before changing settings again.
- Does IRL Pro’s broadcast indicator disappear or show a reconnect?
- Does YouTube Live Control Room show a temporary loss of signal, or a new event?
- Do viewers see a brief interruption, or does the stream end and begin as a separate event?
Record your IRL Pro version, the YouTube event, the setting changed, and the visible symptoms. That information helps distinguish a settings-change issue from an unrelated connection or destination problem.
Before going live: stabilize the configuration
1. Verify the destination URL and stream key
Check that IRL Pro has the complete, current publish URL and the correct stream key. Enhanced IRL’s IRL Pro guide says its URL can become invalid if a key’s region or protocol changes, or if the key is rotated; in that service’s workflow, replace the old URL with the current one. This is guidance for Enhanced IRL’s stream-key service, not a YouTube-specific guarantee. Enhanced IRL’s IRL Pro guide

2. Match the protocol to the receiving service
Use the protocol expected by the destination and configure it consistently in IRL Pro and the receiving dashboard. Enhanced IRL documents RTMP and SRT options for its own service; do not treat those instructions as a universal YouTube requirement. With that service, its guide says an SRT URL carries the key in streamid, while an RTMP URL already ends in the key. Verify the format against the actual service receiving your stream.
3. Choose sustainable resolution, frame rate, and bitrate
Keep output settings within both the receiving service’s limits and the upload capacity your connection can sustain. A plan’s maximum bitrate is not proof that a mobile connection can hold that bitrate throughout a route. Enhanced IRL recommends beginning at half the relevant service cap for mobile streaming, testing along the usual route, and increasing only while the bitrate remains stable. Its plan caps and suggested starting profiles apply to its own service, not to YouTube generally:

| Enhanced IRL plan | Plan cap | Suggested starting profile in its guide |
|---|---|---|
| Stream Key Lite | 9,000 kbps | 1080p at 30 fps |
| Stream Key | 9,000 kbps | 1080p at 30 fps |
| OBS Basic | 6,000 kbps | 720p at 30 fps |
| OBS Standard | 6,000 kbps | 1080p at 30 fps |
| OBS Pro | 10,000 kbps | 1080p at 60 fps |
These are Enhanced IRL’s documented plan caps and suggested profiles, not general YouTube limits. If you use adaptive bitrate, set its maximum within the applicable service cap.
YouTube Help recommends a 2-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed 4 seconds. Its encoder guidance includes CBR and frame rates up to 60 fps. For H.264, the current recommended bitrate values are 4 Mbps for 240p–720p at 30 fps, 6 Mbps for 720p at 60 fps, 10 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps, and 12 Mbps for 1080p at 60 fps. These are YouTube’s recommendations for the stated codec and output; do not mix them with the separate AV1/H.265 minimum and maximum ranges in its table. 4. Test the complete setup before the event
Run a speed test and test the same resolution, frame rate, audio, movement, and network route you expect to use live. YouTube recommends testing with representative audio and movement, then monitoring stream health and reviewing messages during the event. YouTube Help: Set up a live stream with an encoder
Make any necessary encoder changes during this test, not during an important broadcast. YouTube’s guidance supports testing and health monitoring; it does not explain IRL Pro’s behavior when upload settings are changed midstream.

If the stream drops or appears to restart
- Check the evidence before restarting. Compare IRL Pro’s broadcast indicator, YouTube’s stream-health status and event page, and what viewers report. Identify whether you are seeing a reconnect, an ingest interruption, or a separate event.
- Recheck the destination. Confirm that the full URL and key are current and that the selected protocol matches the destination. If a key was rotated or its region or protocol changed, update any stale URL where applicable.
- Check connection stability against your chosen output. If bitrate fluctuates or the route is unreliable, lower resolution, frame rate, or bitrate to a sustainable profile before trying again. For mobile streaming, test on the route you actually use rather than relying only on a plan ceiling.
- Avoid repeated midstream setting changes. The documented sources do not identify a “keep live while changing” switch or establish that a particular toggle prevents a restart. If a change is necessary, test it in a low-risk session or plan for a possible interruption.
Common symptoms and what to check
| Symptom | What to check | What the guidance establishes |
|---|---|---|
| IRL Pro reconnects repeatedly or shows no signal | Full current URL and key, protocol, network stability, and whether the selected output exceeds sustainable upload capacity | Enhanced IRL says a stale URL can cause a reconnect loop in its service; this does not prove the cause for a direct IRL Pro-to-YouTube setup. |
| Signal drops while moving | Whether bitrate remains stable along the route; lower output if the connection cannot sustain it | Enhanced IRL warns that RTMP may struggle with packet loss during movement and suggests SRT for its service, or reducing bitrate if already using SRT. This is service-specific guidance, not a universal YouTube diagnosis. |
| YouTube shows an interruption after an upload-setting change | Whether the event remains the same and whether IRL Pro reconnects | The sources do not prove the setting change caused a new event or identify a prevention control. |
| A later stream uses unexpected start/stop behavior | Review the saved YouTube stream settings | YouTube says reusing settings also copies auto-start and auto-stop choices. That concerns creating a subsequent stream; it does not explain mid-broadcast changes in IRL Pro. YouTube Help: Manage live stream settings |
