Google Calendar spam can come from different places, so one setting will not block every unwanted entry. For new invitations, change who can add events; for suspicious events already on the calendar, report them; and if the entries come from Gmail or an Android app, adjust those controls separately. These steps can reduce unwanted additions, but Google does not promise they will prevent every kind of calendar spam.

First, identify what is adding the event

Google Calendar invitations and events created from Gmail confirmations use separate controls. App-created events and third-party calendars have their own access or provider controls. Match the fix to the source rather than turning off every feature at once.

Control What it addresses Tradeoff or limit
Only if the sender is known New invitations from recognized senders Known senders include contacts, people in your organization, and people you have interacted with. Google warns this setting might reveal to a sender that they are not in your contacts.
When I respond to the invitation in email New invitations The event is added only after you respond to the email notification, so legitimate invitations require an action.
Report as spam An existing event sent from Google Calendar Removes the event; reporting a recurring event removes the series. It is unavailable for events created through another provider, app, or service.
Turn off Gmail events Events inferred from qualifying Gmail confirmations Can also stop wanted travel, reservation, or ticket events; eligibility and regional defaults vary.
Revoke an Android app’s Calendar access Future access by that app Does not delete events already created. Device menus may vary.
Hide a calendar Whether events on that calendar appear in your view Hiding does not prevent an app from creating new spam calendars.

Stop unknown invitations from appearing automatically

On the web, open Google Calendar → Settings → Event settings → Add invitations to my calendar. Choose the option that fits how cautious you want to be:

  • Only if the sender is known: Google treats people in your contacts, people in your organization, and people you have interacted with as known. Their invitations can still be added automatically; this setting is not a block on all invitations.
  • When I respond to the invitation in email: The event is added only after you respond to the email notification. This keeps unknown invitations off the calendar until you act, but you must respond to legitimate invitations you want added.

Google says the updated setting applies only to new invitations. On work or school accounts, an administrator may control which options are available. Google also cautions that choosing “Only if the sender is known” might reveal to senders that they are not in your contacts. Google Calendar Help: control invitations added to your calendar.

Remove and report an existing Calendar invitation

For a suspicious event sent through Google Calendar, open it and select More actions → Report as spam. Google says reporting removes the event; if it is part of a recurring event, the full series is removed. Google Calendar Help states: “To report an event as spam, it must be sent from Google Calendar.” Events created by another provider, app, or service are outside this reporting route. Check whether Gmail is adding confirmations

If unwanted entries look like flight, train, bus, hotel, restaurant, ticket, or registration confirmations, they may be events created from Gmail. In Calendar settings, check Google Workspace smart features and Show events from Gmail. Google says turning off Workspace smart features prevents Gmail from adding events; you can also uncheck “Show events from Gmail.”

This feature is not available for every account, including some government accounts and accounts without Gmail. Google’s help page says Gmail events are off by default in the European Economic Area, Japan, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom, and on by default elsewhere. Those are default settings, not a guarantee that every account currently has the same configuration. Turning the feature off can also suppress useful travel or reservation entries. Revoke Calendar access for a suspicious Android app

If spam continues and an Android app may be creating events, review its Calendar permission. The documented path is Settings → Security & privacy → Privacy controls → Permission manager → Calendar. Select an app and remove its access if it should not change calendar data. The labels can vary by device.

Revoking permission stops the app from accessing Calendar going forward, but does not remove events it already created. Google states: “If you remove an app’s permission to access your calendar data, it doesn’t delete the events already on your calendar.” You can uncheck a calendar to hide its events, but hiding it does not stop an app from creating new spam calendars; removing the app’s access is the relevant control. Google Calendar Help: manage app access and calendars on Android.

When the events come from another calendar provider

If the unwanted events belong to a calendar connected from a third-party scheduling service or provider, Google directs users to that provider for its spam controls. The Google Calendar invitation-reporting feature does not cover events made by another provider, app, or service. Google Calendar Help: manage app access and calendars on Android.
