A wobbling glass display cabinet is usually caused by a loose frame or an uneven floor; a sticking door is often the result of the cabinet being out of level or out of square rather than a faulty hinge. Empty and secure the cabinet first, then inspect and tighten the structure, level the base, square the frame, fit the anti-tip restraint, and only then make small hinge adjustments. This order protects the glass and prevents you from using hinge screws to disguise a structural problem.
Work safely before moving or adjusting the cabinet
Glass furniture can become dangerously top-heavy when a door or shelf is opened. Remove every ornament, shelf and loose component before tilting, lifting or sliding the cabinet. Protect glass edges with padding and use a second adult for a tall or heavy unit. Never work on cracked, chipped or visibly stressed glass.
A tempered-glass display-cabinet manual from Brayden Studio warns: “WARNING: Serious or fatal crushing injuries can occur from furniture tip-over.” Treat the cabinet as an injury hazard until it is stable and anchored. Keep children and pets away from the work area, and do not leave the cabinet unattended while it is unsecured.

Useful tools
- Spirit level long enough to span the cabinet top.
- Correct screwdriver and, if specified by the manual, a metric hex-key set.
- Furniture shims or leveling wedges with enough load capacity for the cabinet.
- Soft pads or folded blankets to protect glass and finished surfaces.
- A tape measure for checking the door reveals.
- The supplied anti-tip restraint and the wall fasteners specified for your wall construction.
Hinge and leveler screw sizes are model-specific. Do not force a key or driver that does not fit exactly; a rounded screw head or stripped mounting hole makes a later repair harder.

Identify the cause before choosing a remedy
Push gently on the cabinet’s upper corners and observe where movement originates. A rocking base, a twisting frame and a door that rubs only at one corner require different fixes.

1. Empty the cabinet and inspect the assembly
Take photographs of the hinge positions and any adjustable feet before removing parts. Lift out glass shelves rather than sliding them across supports, and place them flat on a padded, level surface. Keep shelf clips and screws in a labeled container.
With the cabinet empty, check every accessible connection: back-panel screws, top and base joints, side-panel fasteners, legs, cam locks, shelf supports and hinge mounting plates. Tighten loose fasteners until snug, using the correct driver. Do not over-tighten into particleboard or medium-density fiberboard; excessive force can crush the board or strip the hole.
A FREDEES troubleshooting table identifies loose fasteners, uneven floors and improper wall mounting as common causes of wobble. Look for a screw that turns without becoming firm, a cam lock that does not engage, a missing foot or a back panel that has pulled away from the frame. Replace missing hardware with the exact part or an approved equivalent rather than substituting a random screw.
2. Level the base on the floor
Place the spirit level across the cabinet’s front edge, then check from front to back on both sides. If the bubble is off-center, adjust the cabinet’s built-in feet or base levelers according to the manual. Ghent’s installation guidance states: “Ensure case is level. Use levelers on base of case to adjust.” Make small turns and recheck after each adjustment.

When there are no adjustable feet
For a small floor-height difference, slide a thin, firm furniture shim under the low corner or along the low edge of the base. The shim must sit fully under a load-bearing part, remain stable when the door opens, and resist crushing. Trim or hide the exposed edge only after the cabinet is stable. Do not use folded cardboard, loose coins or soft packing material that can compress and change height.
After shimming, press each upper corner again. The cabinet should not teeter between two points. Recheck the level in both directions because correcting one axis can reveal a slope in the other. If the required shim is thick, the cabinet still rocks, or the base is damaged, use a proper replacement leveler or have the unit repaired instead of stacking wedges.

3. Square the frame before adjusting any hinge
Leveling controls the cabinet’s relationship to the floor; squaring controls whether its sides and openings form a true rectangle. A cabinet can read level and still be twisted if the back is loose or the frame joints are not seated.
Measure the two diagonals across the front opening, from upper left to lower right and upper right to lower left. The measurements should be close. Also compare the vertical door gaps and look for a side panel that leans. If the diagonals differ noticeably, loosen only the frame fasteners identified by the manual, bring the cabinet into square while it remains level, and retighten evenly. Do not pull a twisted frame into shape by forcing hinge screws; that transfers stress to the glass and mounting holes.
Check that the back panel is fully seated and attached. On many flat-pack cabinets it provides important racking resistance. A missing or loose back can allow the entire case to parallelogram when a door is opened.

4. Install and verify the anti-tip restraint
A tall glass cabinet needs an anti-tip connection even after you have corrected the wobble. Install the supplied restraint before replacing shelves or loading the doors. Attach it to the wall structure and cabinet location specified in the model manual. A plasterboard-only fixing may be inadequate for a heavy cabinet; use the anchor type rated for the wall and the cabinet load, or fasten to a suitable stud, masonry point or other structural support as directed by the manufacturer.
Brayden Studio’s manual requires permanent wall fixing, and Ghent’s installation instructions place anti-tipping hardware before loading doors and shelves. Keep the restraint taut enough to limit forward movement without pulling the cabinet out of level. If the original strap, bracket or screw is missing, obtain a correctly rated replacement kit rather than improvising wire or light-duty hooks.
Drilling an anchor is less reversible than adjusting a foot or inserting a shim, so confirm the wall type and the cabinet’s final position first. After anchoring, open each door slowly and verify that the restraint does not interfere with hinges, cables or the wall finish.
5. Adjust sticking doors in small, controlled increments
Only begin hinge adjustment after the case is tight, level, square and anchored. Keep the door supported by its hinges; do not pull on the glass while loosening screws. Open the door so the hinge screws are accessible, and loosen only the screws named in the cabinet’s instructions. European-style hinges commonly provide three independent movements, but the screw layout varies.
Height adjustment
If the entire door sits too high or too low relative to the opening, use the hinge’s vertical mounting adjustment or loosen the mounting-plate screws just enough to move the door. Support the door while making the change. Raise or lower it by a small amount, tighten both hinges, and check that the top and bottom reveals remain parallel.

Side-to-side adjustment
Use the lateral screw to move the door toward or away from the neighboring panel. Correct the width of the vertical reveal first. Work alternately between the upper and lower hinges so one hinge is not carrying all the correction. A consistent gap is more important than forcing the door flush against a bowed frame.
In-and-out adjustment
Use the depth screw only after height and lateral position are correct. This adjustment changes how far the door sits from the frame and can cure a corner that catches on the cabinet face. Turn the screw a fraction at a time, then close the door gently to test clearance. Do not use depth adjustment to compensate for a cabinet that is still twisted.
IKEA customer-service guidance summarizes the principle: “You can adjust the position and level of the doors by using the screws in the hinges.” BDI installation instructions likewise describe minor European-hinge adjustments after the cabinet has been leveled. These statements do not establish a universal screw size or adjustment direction; follow your model’s diagram.
6. Check the reveal, catch and complete movement
With the cabinet empty, close each door without pushing. Look for an even gap along the hinge side, latch side, top and bottom. The door should clear the frame through its entire swing and close with light hand pressure. Open it several times at different angles because a hinge can appear aligned when nearly closed but bind during the first part of the swing.

A catch that is forced into alignment can hide a door that is sagging. Never bend a glass door, twist a metal frame against it or slam the door to make the magnet engage.

Replace shelves and objects only after the unloaded doors operate freely. Load heavier items low and distribute weight evenly from side to side. The cabinet’s own manual controls shelf loads; a limit stated for one model must not be generalized to another.
Why a cabinet can stick again after it seemed fixed
The floor or furniture has moved
Seasonal floor movement, a new rug, or sliding the cabinet can change the base height. Recheck level before changing hinge settings. If the bubble has shifted, restore the feet or shim position and test the doors again.
A fastener is losing its grip
If a screw becomes loose repeatedly, remove the load from that joint and inspect the mounting material. A stripped particleboard hole needs a model-appropriate repair or replacement insert; repeatedly tightening the same screw enlarges the damage.
The frame or glass is damaged
A visibly bowed side, cracked panel, chipped edge, bent hinge plate or elongated mounting hole is not an adjustment problem. Stop using the cabinet, keep people away from it, and obtain replacement parts identified by the manufacturer. Do not drill new holes in a glass panel or continue operating a door that contacts damaged glass.

When to stop and call for help
Escalate to the manufacturer, a qualified furniture repairer or a glazier when the cabinet still rocks after correct leveling and anchoring, when a hinge mount is stripped, when the frame is visibly bowed, or when any glass is cracked or chipped. Provide the model number, photographs of the hinge and base, and a list of parts that are missing or damaged. Until the cabinet is repaired, keep it empty, closed and inaccessible to children.
