If YouTube starts a different video after the one you chose ends, turn off Autoplay on the device where playback is happening. If the exact same video launches again each day, Autoplay may not be the cause: YouTube describes Autoplay as starting another related video after playback ends, not as scheduling the same video to relaunch. Check whether playback is resuming, reopening from a playlist, or being started by a device or cloud-service schedule. The service and device aren’t specified here, so there is no reliable universal schedule-setting path.

First identify what “restarting” means

Notice what appears on screen when the behavior happens. The starting point and timing help distinguish YouTube playback features from a separate launch action.

What you see What it may indicate What to check
A different related video starts after the current one ends This matches YouTube’s documented Autoplay behavior: another related video plays after a video ends. YouTube Help: Auto-play videos Turn off Autoplay on the device playing the video.
The same video opens at a timestamp you watched before YouTube may be resuming saved progress for a signed-in viewer on supported devices. Its progress indicator may take time to update. Refresh the browser or feed, then check the video’s progress bar. YouTube Help: Video progress bar
The same video starts at 0:00 at roughly the same time each day This suggests a device, service, playlist, routine, or schedule may be launching playback. The exact cause cannot be identified without knowing what starts it. Record the device, launch time, service, and starting timestamp; inspect that device or service’s startup and scheduling controls.
You see “Video paused. Continue watching?” during long playback This is a pause prompt, not proof of a daily scheduled restart. YouTube says it may appear with Autoplay on after 30 minutes on mobile, 60 minutes on web, or 180 minutes on TV. YouTube Help: Why YouTube asks, ‘Continue watching?’ Dismiss the prompt or review Autoplay; investigate any separate daily launch independently.

Turn off Autoplay on the device playing YouTube

Autoplay is controlled separately across devices, so check every device where the behavior occurs. YouTube notes that it can be on for one device and off for another. Follow the control that matches your setup:

  • Phone or tablet: Open a video and switch off the Autoplay control at the top of the player. YouTube also documents a Settings > Autoplay control on Android and iOS.
  • Computer: Open a video and switch off Autoplay in the player.
  • Smart TV or game console: In the YouTube app, open Settings, find Autoplay, and turn it off.
  • Casting: On the connected phone or tablet, open the queue or control bar and switch off Autoplay.
  • Google Assistant smart display: In the Google Home app, select the display, then open Settings > Notifications and Digital Wellbeing > YouTube settings. Change Autoplay for the voice-matched user or other users as appropriate.

After changing the setting, test playback on that device. If a different related video no longer follows the original, Autoplay was responsible for that part of the behavior. If the same video still launches each day, continue with the checks below.

Check for resume, playlist, or scheduled playback

Saved progress

For signed-in viewers on TV, computer, and YouTube mobile apps, the progress bar can show where a video was last watched. YouTube says a video will usually restart from that point when played again, though there are exceptions. The indicator may not update immediately; refresh the browser or feed if it looks stale. Clearing watch history also clears progress bars, but that does not establish watch history as the cause of a daily launch. See YouTube’s progress-bar guidance.

Playlist or routine

If the same title is being opened repeatedly, check whether the device or service is reopening a playlist, a startup item, a routine, or a scheduled task. The exact menu and steps depend on the cloud service and device; no particular service is named here. Do not assume YouTube Autoplay is responsible for a video that launches by itself at a set time.

Compare devices

Try the video on another device and note whether it follows the account or only happens on one device. Also record whether playback begins at 0:00 or resumes at a previous timestamp, and whether the video was opened from a playlist. These details help narrow down which settings to inspect.

If it still happens every day

  1. Write down the device, app or cloud service, launch time, and whether playback begins at 0:00 or resumes elsewhere.
  2. Check YouTube Autoplay on that device, then check any playlist, startup, routine, or schedule in the service or device that launches playback.
  3. Repeat the test on another device. If the behavior is limited to one device, focus on its settings; if it follows an account across devices, note that finding when seeking help.
  4. Contact the service’s support team with those observations if its schedule or startup controls are unclear. Because the service is unspecified, a more exact menu path cannot be given reliably.

Or let it run in the cloud

If your goal is to keep a prerecorded video playing as a 24/7 YouTube live stream—not to stop an unwanted daily playback launch—StreamNeo is a separate option. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. The cloud keeps the stream running without a computer or home connection staying on. Uploaded video streams as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; StreamNeo also automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card required. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. Start your free day with StreamNeo.
