There is no general Chromecast setting that hides it from everyone on the same Wi-Fi while leaving the network unchanged. To stop other people from casting, limit who can access your Wi-Fi. To stop them controlling media that is already playing, turn off Let others control your cast media. If you only want your own iPhone, iPad, or Mac to stop finding Cast devices, revoke Local Network permission for the relevant app.

Choose the fix for the problem you have

What you want to stop What to change What it affects
Other people starting a cast to your TV Restrict access to your home Wi-Fi, or configure a guest network Who can access the network and cast
Other people controlling media already playing Turn off Let others control your cast media in Google Home Control of cast media, not whether the Chromecast appears in device lists
Your own iPhone, iPad, or Mac discovering Cast devices Revoke Local Network permission for the relevant app Discovery and casting from that app on that device
Cast control notifications on your Android phone Turn off Media controls for Cast devices Notifications on that phone, not device visibility or casting access

Stop other people on your Wi-Fi from casting

Google says, “By design, anyone who has access to your Home Wi-Fi network can cast to your TV.” The practical way to restrict casting is therefore to control network access: secure your Wi-Fi with a password, share it only with people you trust, and change it if it has been shared too widely. People removed from the network may also lose access to other shared network resources. See Google Cast Help’s guidance on preventing others from casting.

Consider a guest Wi-Fi network for visitors

A guest network can separate visitor access from your main network. Google’s instructions for supported Google Wifi and Nest Wifi setups let the owner choose which devices are shared with guests. Other routers vary, and network isolation settings may affect whether a Chromecast can be discovered. Check your router’s guest-network options and test the result with a guest device; do not assume every guest network blocks or permits casting in the same way. Google explains setup in Create, edit & share a Guest Wi-Fi network.

Stop other people controlling media that is already playing

Use this setting if the problem is that people on your Wi-Fi can pause, resume, or otherwise control an active cast session. In the Google Home app:

  1. Tap Home, then All devices.
  2. Touch and hold the Chromecast or Cast-enabled device tile.
  3. Tap Settings, then Recognition & sharing.
  4. Turn off Let others control your cast media.

This limits other Wi-Fi users’ control of cast media. It is not a general setting for hiding the receiver from Cast pickers or preventing others from starting a cast. Google documents the control in Cast media control notifications.

Stop your own Apple device from finding Cast devices

On iPhone, iPad, or Mac, Local Network permission is controlled per app. Turning it off prevents that app on that device from discovering Cast devices, so casting from the app will not work until you grant permission again. It does not change what other people can see on their devices.

Turn off Cast control notifications on Android

If you only want to stop Cast media notifications on your Android phone, go to Settings > Google > Devices & sharing > Cast options and turn off Media controls for Cast devices. This affects controls on that phone; it does not make a Chromecast undiscoverable or determine who can start casting. Google lists this option in its Cast media control notifications guidance.
