If you see encoding lag or rendering lag, reduce OBS’s local workload: lower the output resolution, try 30 fps instead of 60, simplify the scene, disable costly filters or browser overlays, and close GPU-heavy programs. If OBS’s dropped-frames counter rises alongside a yellow or red connection indicator, investigate the network and bitrate instead. These are different problems and need different fixes.
For a stream that must run unattended, make one change at a time, then test with the actual audio and representative movement while monitoring both OBS and YouTube’s stream health. The title alone does not reveal your encoder, computer, settings, or exact warning, so no single setting can be identified as the fix in advance.
Identify what “overloaded” means in your stream
Before changing settings, note the OBS Stats counters while the problem is happening, review the OBS log for the same interval, and read the exact message in YouTube Live Control Room. OBS distinguishes performance problems from frames lost because of the network; YouTube also reports ingest warnings that may concern the stream configuration rather than your computer’s ability to encode.

Do not change bitrate just because a warning says “encoder,” and do not change graphics settings to fix a network counter. Match the fix to the counter or health message.

Reduce OBS rendering or encoding lag
Work through these changes individually so you can tell which one helps. OBS recommends reducing output resolution, trying 30 fps when 60 fps is not working, simplifying scenes, removing unnecessary costly sources or filters, and closing other programs that use substantial GPU resources. On Windows, launching OBS as administrator is also worth trying. See the OBS troubleshooting steps.
- Lower the output resolution. If OBS is struggling to render or encode, reduce the output resolution in your stream settings. Make the smallest reduction that resolves the lag while keeping text and devotional imagery clear enough for viewers.
- Try 30 fps instead of 60 fps. A largely static aarti scene may not need 60 fps; test the result with the movement in your actual stream, such as flame, hands, or camera motion, rather than judging a still preview alone.
- Simplify the scene. Remove sources the audience does not need. Disable expensive filters, animations, and browser overlays one at a time, and watch whether the rendering-lag counter improves.
- Free up GPU resources. Close other graphics-intensive programs while OBS is running. If you use Windows, try starting OBS as administrator and compare the same Stats counters.
- Test each change. Keep the audio and representative movement active; observe OBS Stats and YouTube stream health during a representative test before leaving the stream unattended.
If OBS shows network-dropped frames
When the dropped-frames counter rises and the connection indicator turns yellow or red, OBS says the connection is unstable or cannot keep up with the set bitrate. Run an upload speed test under conditions similar to the stream, then select a bitrate the connection can sustain reliably. If the configured bitrate exceeds stable upload capacity, lower it and test again. YouTube likewise advises choosing a quality appropriate for the internet connection.

A lower bitrate addresses network demand; it does not directly reduce the computer’s rendering workload in the same way as lowering resolution or simplifying the scene. Keep the diagnosis tied to the counter that is actually rising.
Check YouTube’s ingest settings and health message
YouTube’s published RTMP/RTMPS guidance recommends constant bitrate (CBR) and a two-second keyframe interval, with keyframes no more than four seconds apart. Its listed supported codecs include H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1. For H.264, the current recommended ingest bitrates are 10 Mbps for 720p at 30 or 60 fps, 14 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps, and 17 Mbps for 1080p at 60 fps. These are YouTube’s ingest recommendations, not proof that a particular computer can encode at those settings or that a mostly static devotional stream needs the highest listed quality. Consult the YouTube encoder settings guide and match the settings to your chosen resolution, frame rate, codec, and reliable upload connection.

If YouTube reports high or low bitrate, high frame rate, long keyframe intervals, unsupported codec or resolution, or video starvation, follow that specific warning rather than applying a general “overload” fix. The YouTube health-status reference documents these distinct conditions.

- Run a preflight test with the audio and movement you expect in the real stream. YouTube explicitly recommends testing with representative audio and movement.
- Watch OBS Stats for the same rendering, encoding, and dropped-frame counters you used to diagnose the problem.
- Watch YouTube Live Control Room for stream-health changes and new messages.
- After each adjustment, allow a representative period to pass and check whether the original symptom recurs before treating the setup as resolved.
A change that helps during a short, quiet preview may not resolve a sustained issue when the actual audio, imagery, and movement are running. The machine and settings are not specified here, so a particular setting cannot be guaranteed to eliminate warnings.

Common troubleshooting mistakes
- Changing bitrate when OBS reports encoding lag: bitrate is relevant to network capacity and YouTube ingest; first reduce local rendering or encoding workload if those counters are rising.
- Reducing resolution when dropped frames are the only symptom: first check whether the connection can reliably sustain the configured bitrate. Use the exact OBS counter and connection indicator to choose the branch.
- Fixing an OBS setting without reading YouTube’s message: an ingest warning may be about keyframes, codec, frame rate, or incoming video. Use the exact Live Control Room message and YouTube’s health reference.
- Making several changes at once: adjust one setting, then retest, so you can identify whether it affected the counter you care about.
- Buying hardware before establishing a hardware limit: check Stats and logs first. Without computer specifications or a confirmed hardware bottleneck, a replacement computer or accessory may not address the warning.
