Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsStreamlabs Desktop does not document a separate Safe Mode for launching the app in a stripped-down diagnostic state. Streamlabs’ own Safe Mode is a stream-and-chat safety feature. If you mean Windows Safe Mode, you can start Windows that way, but it is an operating-system troubleshooting option—not a Streamlabs startup setting. For an app that will not open or behaves incorrectly, use Streamlabs’ app-specific troubleshooting steps below.
Which “Safe Mode” do you mean?
| Option | Where it is accessed | What it is for |
|---|---|---|
| Streamlabs Safe Mode | Streamlabs’ streaming and chat controls | Protects a stream and chat from harmful messages and spam; it does not launch the desktop app in a diagnostic mode. Streamlabs explains the feature. |
| Windows Safe Mode | Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) and Startup Settings | Starts Windows with a limited set of files and drivers to help troubleshoot the operating system. Microsoft’s instructions cover Windows 10 and Windows 11. |
| Streamlabs app troubleshooting | Windows Task Manager or Streamlabs Desktop settings, depending on the symptom | Addresses app startup failures, crashes, or repeated first-run behavior without calling it a Streamlabs Safe Mode. |
Streamlabs describes its feature as a way to help prevent harassment, hateful messages, and chat spam. It can clear recent events and queued alerts, disable follower alerts, and, with Cloudbot, apply chat restrictions. That is distinct from booting Windows into Safe Mode.
How to start Windows in Safe Mode
Use these steps only if you want to troubleshoot Windows itself. Microsoft’s Startup Settings route applies to Windows 10 and Windows 11; the exact route into recovery can vary depending on whether you can sign in and how your PC is configured.
- Open the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE). If you can reach Windows, open Settings and use the recovery options to restart into advanced startup. If Windows will not start normally, follow Microsoft’s guidance for entering WinRE on your device.
- In WinRE, select Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings > Restart.
- After Windows restarts and displays the startup choices, select the Safe Mode option you need. Choose Safe Mode with Networking only if you need network access; Microsoft says this mode adds the network drivers and services required for internet and network access.
These are Windows boot steps, not a Streamlabs Desktop feature. The available evidence does not establish that every Streamlabs Desktop function will work in Windows Safe Mode, so do not treat it as a guaranteed way to launch or repair the app.

Fix Streamlabs Desktop startup problems without a “Safe Mode” shortcut
If it acts like a first launch every time
For this specific repeated first-run behavior, Streamlabs advises closing the app and ending any lingering processes before reopening it. Follow Streamlabs’ first-run troubleshooting guidance:
- Close Streamlabs Desktop.
- Open Task Manager with Ctrl+Shift+Esc.
- Look for lingering processes named Streamlabs, Electron, Obs64, Crash Handler, or Crash_Handler, and end them.
- Reopen Streamlabs Desktop.
If the app crashes or will not open
Streamlabs’ crash guidance recommends working through these measures rather than assuming that Windows Safe Mode is a supported Streamlabs fix. See Streamlabs’ crash troubleshooting guide.

If those steps do not resolve the issue, request a diagnostic report or submit a support ticket to Streamlabs with details about when the failure occurs and any error message shown.
Do not clear the cache casually
Streamlabs’ Clear Cache and Restart option starts the app from scratch and wipes user data. Streamlabs’ related troubleshooting guidance warns that clearing cache could lose scene collections and settings. Preserve your configuration and consult Streamlabs support before considering this reset; it is not a harmless first step. Streamlabs’ first-run guidance discusses the cache-reset risk.
