To make a YouTube 24/7 playlist stream open with a particular prerecorded video, put that video first in the playlist inside your cloud playout service before you start or schedule the stream. For a one-time opening, use a playlist with only that video, or make it the first item in a dedicated playlist. The cited services document playlist ordering; they do not document a universal start-at-item button or a guaranteed instant jump to a chosen item in a stream already running.

Set the first video before the stream starts

  1. Choose the opening file. Make sure the video is available in your cloud service’s library or a supported storage source.
  2. Create or edit the playlist. Move the desired video to position one. A dedicated playlist containing just that video is the clearest option for a one-off opening.
  3. Choose YouTube and configure the broadcast. Set the stream details and start time, then start or schedule the stream in the playout service.
  4. Check the opening item. Use the service’s preview or status display, if available, and YouTube Live Control Room to confirm what is going out before relying on the stream.

Playlist order governs which prerecorded item the playout service sends first. YouTube’s broadcast and stream resources handle the live event and incoming feed; they do not choose an item within an external playlist. Google describes a broadcast as an event that can be watched on YouTube as it happens: YouTube Live Streaming API: liveBroadcasts.

What if the stream is already running?

Do not assume that moving a video to the top of a live playlist will immediately seek playback to it. Gyre says users can change a playlist while a stream is running, but its instructions do not establish that an edit jumps directly to an arbitrary item. Check how your service applies edits, then verify the result in its preview and YouTube Live Control Room.

If the service does not document the transition you need, the more predictable approach is to prepare the intended order before starting a new stream. Rebuilding or restarting a broadcast can affect the live event and viewers, so check the service’s current controls before doing so.

Service examples and documented limits

OneStream Live

OneStream Live’s help documentation describes its 24-hour stream workflow: choose Create and 24-hour Stream, add videos from a device, OneStream storage, or supported cloud storage such as Google Drive or Dropbox, choose a YouTube channel, enter stream details, set a start time and duration, then schedule the broadcast. Its help page, last updated September 3, 2026, says this 24/7 option is YouTube-only, requires an Enterprise plan, and has a maximum duration of 30 days. See OneStream Live Help Center.

OneStream’s playlist instructions say videos can be queued in a specific sequence and list playlist streaming on Professional and Enterprise plans. The instructions do not describe a dedicated start-at-item control. Put the intended opening video first before starting. See OneStream Live playlist instructions.

Gyre

Gyre describes uploading video files, arranging them in a looping playlist, connecting a YouTube channel, and starting or scheduling a stream. Its playlist documentation says the playlist determines playback order, returns to the beginning after the last file, and can be changed while the stream is running. Those are vendor-described capabilities; the cited instructions do not establish an instant jump to a selected item or independently verify uptime or performance. See Gyre’s automation article.

Keep cloud playout separate from YouTube ingestion

YouTube’s Live Streaming API models the broadcast (the event/video) separately from the live stream (the incoming audio-video feed). The API documents broadcast creation, binding, preview/testing, and lifecycle operations; the cloud playout service is responsible for selecting and sending the first prerecorded playlist item. See broadcast resources and the YouTube Live Streaming API overview.

Google Cloud Live Stream API is a different product category: its overview describes ingesting a live SRT or RTMP signal, transcoding it to HLS or DASH, and saving outputs to Cloud Storage. It is not described there as a prerecorded playlist scheduler. See Google Cloud Live Stream API overview.

When HLS settings matter

You only need YouTube’s HLS encoder settings if you are configuring an encoder to send HLS directly. A cloud playlist service may manage its own YouTube ingestion settings, so do not copy these values into service controls unless that service asks for them.

YouTube’s HLS setup guide specifies 1–4 second segments, MPEG-2 TS format, a rolling playlist with no more than five outstanding segments, HTTPS POST/PUT, and no encryption other than HTTPS. HLS has higher latency than a continuous RTMP stream because it sends segments. See YouTube’s HLS ingestion setup guide.

Troubleshoot the wrong opening video

  • A different video starts. Check the playlist order in the playout service, not just the order of videos on your YouTube channel. Move the intended item to position one and verify the saved order.
  • The playlist changed, but playback did not. The service may apply edits only at a later transition, or may not support seeking to an item in progress. Consult its current instructions and verify the actual output before making promises about timing.
  • The service preview and YouTube show different states. Allow for processing or ingestion delay, then compare the service status with YouTube Live Control Room. Do not treat a configured playlist as proof that the intended item is already on air.
  • You cannot find the 24/7 option. Check your plan and the service’s current availability rules. OneStream’s cited help page lists 24/7 streaming as Enterprise-only and YouTube-only, with a 30-day maximum; plan details can change.

Or let it run in the cloud

With StreamNeo, upload your video or playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it streams the uploaded file as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month.
