A legitimate Animal Crossing: New Horizons treasure-island visit uses only the game’s Airport and a five-digit Dodo Code. It never requires your Nintendo Account password, two-factor recovery code, payment-card details, a survey, a download, or a browser extension. Treat the code as an invitation from another player—not as a Nintendo certification of the host. If an offer moves access outside the game or pressures you to act immediately, leave it.

What a “treasure island code” actually is

“Treasure island” is community terminology for a player-hosted New Horizons island advertised as having free, rare or large quantities of items. Nintendo does not publish an approved-host directory, certify treasure-island services or issue special codes for them.

The underlying feature is ordinary online multiplayer. A host opens the airport gate and chooses whether to invite specific people or anyone who has the code. The game generates a five-digit Dodo Code. A visitor enters that code at their own airport, flies to the host’s island and can leave when finished. The host can close the gate at any time, which invalidates that invitation.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Because the code is just an in-game invitation, a web page cannot legitimately “activate” it, guarantee a place, or upgrade it to a premium Nintendo access level. A trustworthy host may publish a code in a moderated community, but the actual join process remains inside the Nintendo game.

Where access happens You receive a code and enter it at the in-game Airport. A page says you must use a “generator,” QR tool, extension or separate app first.
What is requested No account secrets or payment; at most, ordinary island rules. Nintendo password, two-factor recovery code, card number, gift card or a fee for the code.
Host identity A consistent account in a community with visible moderation and a history of normal interactions. A brand-new, anonymous or copied account that refuses basic identity checks.
Promises A specific list of items and clear limits, described as a player-run service. “Unlimited guaranteed hacked items,” impossible availability or a promise that Nintendo will protect your account.
Pressure You can wait, ask questions and leave without consequences. A countdown, threat of losing a slot, or demand to pay immediately.
Rules Simple, lawful in-game etiquette such as taking only listed items. Instructions to install unauthorized software, exploit the game or evade Nintendo safeguards.

No single social signal proves that a host is honest. The safest offer is the one that keeps every technical step in the game and never asks for information Nintendo does not need.

Red flags that identify a fake or fraudulent offer

Requests for passwords, recovery codes or payment

Nintendo does not need your Nintendo Account password or a two-factor recovery code to let you visit another player’s island. It also does not require a credit-card number, gift card or payment to issue a Dodo Code. Never paste those details into a chat, form, direct message or “verification” page.

A request for a payment can be risky even when the amount is small. The seller can disappear after receiving money, charge more than agreed, or use the transaction to collect billing information. A host who says a fee is required to unlock a normal Dodo Code is not following Nintendo’s documented multiplayer flow.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Generators, surveys and downloads

New Horizons creates the code when the host opens the airport gate. There is no legitimate external generator that can produce a working code for someone else’s island. Pages that promise unlimited codes, require a survey, ask you to install a program, or demand a browser extension are outside the game’s system.

Do not download a “code tool,” QR utility, save editor or file advertised as mandatory for entry. A download can contain malware, steal browser data or alter your console or computer. For legitimate Nintendo software, use Nintendo’s own website or the Nintendo eShop rather than a link supplied by an unknown host.

Urgency and impossible guarantees

Scammers often manufacture scarcity: “pay in the next five minutes,” “only one slot remains,” or “your code will be deleted unless you verify now.” A host may close a gate when the island is full, but that ordinary limitation is not a reason to surrender account details.

Claims of guaranteed hacked items, unlimited rare-item access or immunity from moderation are also unverified marketing. The host cannot promise how Nintendo will treat unauthorized content or conduct, and no community account can guarantee that a copied or edited item is safe.

Unknown, copied or inconsistent social accounts

A code posted by an anonymous account is not automatically dangerous, but you have no independent way to evaluate that host. Look for a stable identity, consistent rules and moderators who remove abusive behavior. Be cautious when the account uses copied screenshots, changes usernames repeatedly or gives different instructions in different messages.

Never reuse a code after the host says the gate is closed, and do not redistribute another player’s code without permission. A code is temporary access to that host’s island, not a public license to forward it.

Requests to break Nintendo’s rules

Nintendo’s Community Guidelines prohibit harmful, unauthorized, fraudulent or illegal behavior, as well as attempts to impair or bypass protections around its services and content. A host who asks you to use hacks, unauthorized software, exploits or account-sharing is asking you to accept conduct Nintendo forbids. You can decline without debating whether the promised items are valuable.

How to verify an offer step by step

  1. Read the offer without opening its links. Note exactly what is promised, what you must provide and where the host says the visit will occur. If the first step is a download, survey or payment, stop.
  2. Confirm that access stays in New Horizons. The normal sequence is: open the game, go to the airport, choose “I want visitors” or “I want to fly,” and enter the host’s five-digit Dodo Code when prompted. A website may display the code, but it should not control the gate.
  3. Check the host’s identity. Prefer a community with visible moderation, an established posting history and rules that prohibit credential requests and harassment. Treat a newly created account or copied announcement as unverified rather than as proof of fraud.
  4. Ask one practical question. Request the item list, visit limits, permitted actions and expected closing time. A genuine host can answer without asking for your password. Evasive or contradictory replies are a reason to leave.
  5. Reject every secret or payment request. Do not provide Nintendo Account credentials, two-factor recovery information, card details, gift-card codes or a fee. The answer to a request for any of these is no, even if other players say they paid.
  6. Check the promised behavior against Nintendo’s rules. If participation depends on unauthorized software, exploiting a vulnerability or bypassing a safeguard, do not join.
  7. Use a fresh code only once. Enter the code at the Airport, and do not save it in a third-party tool or reuse it after the host closes the gate.

Prepare your account and console for a safer visit

  • Use a strong, unique Nintendo Account password and enable two-step verification. Keep recovery information private; it is for account recovery, not island entry.
  • Make sure you have Nintendo Switch Online and a working internet connection. Online visits are not available through the local-play flow.
  • Install the game and updates through Nintendo’s official channels. Do not install software advertised by a treasure-island host as a condition of entry.
  • Bring only the tools and items you actually need. Leave personal information, valuable items and anything you would regret losing at home.
  • Read the host’s island rules before you fly. Rules about where to walk or which items to take are etiquette; requests for credentials or unauthorized software are not normal rules.
  • Keep your own gate closed when you are not actively hosting. This prevents an old invitation from being used by someone you did not intend to invite.

What to do during the island visit

Keep the interaction inside the game

You should be able to arrive, collect the permitted items and leave using the game’s controls. Do not follow a chat link to “confirm” your arrival, send a screenshot containing account information or install anything while you are on the island.

  • For use with Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo 3DS XL and Nintendo 2DS systems, a Nintendo 3DS NFC Reader/Writer accessory is required to tap in amiibo Cards or amiibo figures.

Leave when the host changes the deal

If the host suddenly asks for money, a login, a download or a rule-breaking action, stop collecting items and leave. Closing the game or using the airport’s departure option is safer than continuing a negotiation with someone who has changed the terms.

Protect your own items and information

Do not drop personal documents, account codes or valuable in-game items as “proof” of trust. A host does not need to inspect your account to let you visit. If a stranger pressures you to trade first, you can end the session.

Do not share the code beyond its intended audience

Forwarding a code can overcrowd the island and expose the host to people they did not invite. It can also make it harder to identify who behaved abusively. Ask before sharing, and discard the code once the gate closes.

Can visiting a treasure island get you banned?

Nintendo’s published Community Guidelines prohibit fraudulent, unauthorized and harmful behavior and cheating. They do not state that every person who visits a third-party treasure island is automatically banned. There is no published guaranteed ban rate for visitors and no official list classifying every treasure island.

The practical distinction is your conduct. Merely entering another player’s island through the ordinary multiplayer feature is different from supplying account credentials, committing fraud, using unauthorized software, exploiting a vulnerability or deliberately bypassing Nintendo protections. Nintendo’s rules—not a host’s promise—are the authoritative standard.

Item provenance can also be uncertain. A host may describe an item as “hacked” or “guaranteed safe,” but that description is not a Nintendo certification. Do not participate in behavior that requires cheating or unauthorized tools simply because the host says other visitors did so without consequences.

How to report a host or visitor

If someone behaves abusively during an online session, use the in-game reporting control rather than arguing in chat.

  1. Press the − (Minus) button while the online session is active.
  2. Choose Report.
  3. Select the reason that best describes the conduct, add factual details and submit the report.

Nintendo documents reporting for player profiles, chat, custom designs, island names, bulletin-board posts and disruptive behavior. After the session, remove the person from your Friend List or block them so they cannot return through that connection. Save screenshots or message records only if they help you describe what happened; never include your password or recovery codes in a report.

If you already responded to a scam

You entered a password or recovery code

Change the Nintendo Account password immediately from an official Nintendo account page, enable two-step verification if it is not already active, and review account security activity. If the same password was used elsewhere, change it on those services too. Do not continue the conversation with the requester.

You supplied payment information

Contact the card issuer or payment provider using the number on your card or its official statement, explain that the details were submitted to a suspected scam and ask what monitoring or replacement steps are available. Keep confirmation numbers and messages for the provider’s investigation.

You installed a file or extension

Disconnect the affected computer from accounts you care about, remove the untrusted software through the operating system’s normal settings, run your security tools and change passwords from a different, trusted device. Do not launch the file again to “verify” whether it worked.

You only entered a Dodo Code

Entering a five-digit code at the Airport does not reveal your Nintendo Account password or payment details. You can still leave, close your own gate and block or report the account if the host was abusive. Do not reuse the code after the host closes the gate.

Online-play requirements and player limits

Online visits require Nintendo Switch Online and an internet connection. Nintendo’s multiplayer information states that the original Nintendo Switch version supports up to eight people playing together online. The Nintendo Switch 2 Edition supports up to 12. These are capacity limits for the game’s multiplayer service, not evidence that an offer is legitimate or that a host can reserve a guaranteed slot.

If you are buying the game, use a legitimate physical copy from Nintendo or an authorized retailer. Check the current region, edition, price and retailer eligibility before purchasing; those details can vary and are separate from any community island invitation.

Decision examples

“Here is a code; meet me at the Airport”

This matches the documented flow. You still need to assess the host’s identity, rules and conduct, but no external verification is required. Use the code once and do not share it without permission.

“Complete this survey to reveal the code”

Do not continue. A survey is not part of Nintendo’s multiplayer process and can be used to harvest personal information or redirect you to unsafe downloads.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

“Send a small payment so I can whitelist your account”

Decline. Nintendo does not require payment or account whitelisting for a normal Dodo Code. Report the account if it continues soliciting money.

“Install this save editor; otherwise the items will disappear”

Do not install it. The request involves unauthorized software and conflicts with Nintendo’s rule against harmful or unauthorized activity. Leave the conversation and report it if appropriate.

“Everyone is welcome, but the gate is closed now”

A host can close the gate when the island is full or the session is over. Wait for a new code rather than trying an old one or paying someone who claims they can reopen it.

What a trustworthy host should—and should not—need from you

A host may need your in-game player name to recognize you, and may set ordinary etiquette rules for the island. They do not need your Nintendo Account login, two-factor recovery code, email password, card number or a file installed on your device. They also cannot provide a Nintendo-backed guarantee that an item is authorized, that a visit is risk-free or that your account can never be moderated.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Use the simplest standard: if the visit cannot be completed with the game’s Airport, a current five-digit Dodo Code and normal online service, do not proceed.
