To display output written by Gradle tests, enable test logging for standard output and standard error. In either build-script language, showStandardStreams = true turns on both streams for the test task.
Show test output in the console
Add the configuration to the build script that defines your test task. Use the syntax matching the project’s DSL:

}The setting is a shorthand for enabling both the STANDARD_OUT and STANDARD_ERROR test log events. Gradle’s TestLogging API describes it as controlling whether standard output and standard error are logged. The Kotlin DSL reference also shows the equivalent test.testLogging { showStandardStreams = true } form.
Enable only one stream, or configure by log level
If you want only standard output or only standard error, configure the corresponding event rather than using the shorthand. Gradle exposes the two events separately through the test logging events configuration.

Test events can also be configured for individual Gradle log levels. This matters when the output is absent at the level you are using: Gradle’s Java testing guide says the default LIFECYCLE-level event is test failures, while INFO includes failures, skipped tests, standard output, and standard error. The guide documents per-level customization, and the TestLoggingContainer DSL reference shows how to assign events by level.
Console logging is separate from XML report output
Enabling test logging controls Gradle’s test log output; it is not the setting for whether streams are embedded in XML test reports. For XML reports, Gradle documents includeSystemOutLog and includeSystemErrLog as separate options. Both default to true and affect output at suite, class, and method levels, according to the Java testing guide.
