Scheduling the YouTube event in Studio is a separate step: it creates an upcoming event viewers can share or set a reminder for, but it does not put a timetable on the video.
Two separate jobs: schedule the event and show the timetable
In YouTube Studio, scheduling a stream makes it possible to promote the upcoming broadcast, share its watch URL, and let viewers request a reminder. The schedule viewers see during the show is a visual overlay that you add to your encoder’s scene. YouTube’s documentation treats event scheduling and overlay composition as separate workflows.
For the overlay, use a graphic file as an image source, or use a browser source if your timetable is on a web page. YouTube documents adding an overlay URL as a Browser Source and setting its dimensions to match the stream resolution. Encoder support varies, so consult the documentation for your chosen encoder before relying on a browser source.
Prepare a schedule viewers can read
Make a concise graphic or web page with the segments and times you want viewers to see. Prioritize the current and upcoming segments rather than squeezing in a full production document. Keep text large enough to read on a phone, and leave room for speakers, captions, and other important visuals.

If the run of show may change, decide who will update the schedule and how. A static image is straightforward but must be replaced when details change; a browser-based timetable may be easier to update, but its behavior depends on the page and encoder. YouTube’s guidance does not prescribe a specific layout, file format, schedule widget, or calendar integration.
Schedule the YouTube live event
- In YouTube Studio, open Go Live and choose Manage.
- Schedule a stream, either by reusing settings or creating a new event.
- Check the event’s visibility and metadata, then confirm the scheduled event is accessible to the intended audience. The event’s watch URL can be shared before the broadcast.
Studio event details do not automatically create the on-screen timetable. You will still need to add the graphic or browser page to the encoder separately.

Add the schedule to your encoder scene
- In Live Control Room, get the stream URL and stream key used to connect your encoder to YouTube. Treat the stream key like a password; do not show it in the schedule or expose it in a public scene.
- In your encoder, create or open the scene for the podcast.
- Add the schedule graphic as an image source. If using a web page, add a browser source and provide its URL. YouTube’s overlay instructions use this browser-source approach, but not every encoder supports browser sources in the same way.
- Set the source dimensions to match your stream canvas or resolution, then position and size the schedule so it does not cover speakers, captions, or essential content.
- Review the scene preview. Check that all text is legible at a phone-sized viewing area and that the schedule remains visible without obscuring the show.
The exact controls for adding and positioning sources differ by encoder. YouTube’s encoder guide names software such as OBS and Streamlabs, but does not establish that one is better for this task. Choose an encoder that supports the source type you need and whose scene controls you know how to use.
Test before the broadcast
YouTube recommends setting up the encoder at least two hours before the event and starting it at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start. Use the Live Control Room preview to verify the picture and audio, and check that the event can be viewed from the channel or watch page and on mobile devices. These checks can reveal problems with the overlay’s position, readability, or visibility before the audience arrives.

- Confirm the correct scheduled event is selected and the encoder is connected to it.
- Check that the schedule source loads and displays the current run of show.
- Review audio and video quality in the preview, not just the schedule graphic.
- If the timetable changes, update the source and verify the new version is visible.
Common problems and fixes
- The event is scheduled, but no schedule appears in the video: Scheduling in Studio promotes the event; it does not add a visual timetable. Add an image or browser source in the encoder scene.
- The browser source is blank or unsupported: Browser-source support varies by encoder. Check its documentation; if it cannot display the page reliably, use a schedule graphic as an image source.
- The schedule is cropped or misplaced: Check the source dimensions against the stream canvas, then reposition and resize it in the scene preview.
- Text is hard to read on a phone: Simplify the schedule, enlarge the text, or use a less crowded layout, then review it at a small viewing size.
- The stream does not connect to the intended event: Recheck the stream URL and key in the encoder against the details in Live Control Room, and make sure you have selected the correct event.
