To show a Mac’s computer name with Intune, create a macOS Device features profile and enable Show additional information in the menu bar under Login window > Windows Layout. At the login screen, selecting the menu bar’s time area then reveals the host name and macOS version. Add fixed help-desk instructions separately in the Banner field; Microsoft does not document dynamic device-name tokens for that macOS banner.
Configure the Mac login window in Intune
- In the Intune admin center, create a macOS configuration profile and select Templates > Device features as its profile type.
- In the profile settings, open Login window > Windows Layout.
- Set Show additional information in the menu bar to Yes. At the login screen, selecting the time area in the menu bar displays the host name and macOS version; it does not permanently print the computer name on the sign-in screen. See Microsoft’s macOS device feature settings reference.
- Enter the support instructions you want displayed in Banner, such as a help-desk phone number or support URL. Keep the message concise and readable. Microsoft describes Banner as a custom sign-in-screen message.
- Assign the profile to the intended user or device groups, then review its deployment status.
What users will see
The computer name and macOS version are available through the menu bar’s time area when the additional-information setting is enabled. The Banner is a separate, fixed message shown on the sign-in screen. For example, a banner can tell users how to contact support, while the selectable menu-bar information identifies the Mac.
Can the Banner include a dynamic device name?
Do not enter {{DeviceName}} in the macOS Banner expecting Intune to replace it with each Mac’s name. Microsoft documents that token for asset-tag fields in a separate iOS/iPadOS lock-screen feature, not for the macOS Login window Banner. The cited macOS Login window settings document a custom message, but not device-token substitution; the iOS/iPadOS settings reference describes the separate asset-tag use.

The documented option is to use the selectable host-name and macOS-version display alongside a static support Banner.
Applicability and other Login window settings
Microsoft says the Login window settings apply to all enrollment types, and its Device features profile overview lists the Login window feature for macOS 10.7 and newer. These are the documented scope statements, not a guarantee that every setting behaves identically on every deployed Mac; verify the result on the macOS versions in your environment before broad rollout. The same section includes separate controls for username and password fields, which local, mobile, or network users and administrators can see, login-screen shutdown, restart, and sleep buttons, and console login. These options are independent of showing the host name; enable them only when they match your deployment requirements.
