To keep a class timetable visible on a continuous YouTube livestream, add it as a graphic or display source in your encoder scene. The encoder sends the combined picture—lesson video plus timetable—to YouTube. A stream title, description, or scheduled start time is metadata; it does not put a timetable over the video.

Choose how classes will appear to viewers

First decide whether viewers should use one continuous destination, individual class watch pages, or both. The right setup depends on reminders, event details, recordings, and how the timetable should appear between classes.

Model Viewer destination Useful when Operational trade-off
One continuous 24/7 broadcast One always-available live destination Viewers should be able to return to the same stream throughout the day. Keep the timetable and gap-time programming current within the ongoing feed. A very long stream also needs a deliberate recording and archive plan.
Separate scheduled class streams A distinct watch page for each class or event Each class needs its own reminder, event-specific metadata, or separate recording workflow. Each broadcast must be scheduled and managed; viewers may need a new link for each class.
Continuous feed plus separate event broadcasts The ongoing feed remains available, with a separate destination for selected events A class or interview needs its own event page while the general feed continues. This adds operator or API workflow complexity; do not assume every encoder has a one-click control for it.

Google’s YouTube Live Streaming API documentation, last updated September 14, 2026, gives the example of a channel with a 24/7 feed that also creates a separate video for an interview during that broadcast. This demonstrates that the combined model is supported by the platform’s broadcast model, not that every encoder offers a simple way to operate it.

Build a timetable viewers can read

  1. Write the schedule. Include the day, local time zone, class name, and any break or “next class” details viewers need. This is practical editorial guidance, not a YouTube-required format.
  2. Create the graphic or display. Make the timetable in an image or a displayable page, then add it as a source in the scene used for the broadcast.
  3. Position it alongside the lesson. Place the timetable where it does not obscure the teacher, slides, or other important lesson content. Check the result at the size viewers are likely to watch, including on a phone; prioritize legible text and strong contrast.
  4. Check the complete scene. Confirm the timetable is visible in the encoder’s program output, not merely in an editor or a separate window. If classes use different scenes, verify the schedule source is present in each one where it should appear.

OBS is one example of scene-based encoder software. An education guide from INFLIBNET describes adding and positioning Display Capture and Video Capture Device sources in OBS; it is an example of scene composition, not a timetable template or confirmation of current button names. Use the source controls for the encoder you have selected.

Connect the encoder to YouTube Live

  1. Enable live streaming ahead of time. YouTube says first-time live-stream activation may take up to 24 hours. Do not leave the first activation until just before class.
  2. Set up the broadcast in YouTube Studio. Create or configure the live stream, and schedule it if you are using a separate class event. For a scheduled broadcast, use the current controls in YouTube’s Live Control Room.
  3. Connect the encoder. Use the YouTube stream URL and stream key provided for the broadcast. Treat the key as a secret: anyone who obtains it may be able to send video to that stream. Do not put it in a public timetable, description, or screen capture.
  4. Inspect the YouTube preview. Check that the lesson and timetable are both visible, correctly positioned, and readable. Confirm audio and any camera or screen sources if the class includes them.
  5. Start the broadcast. Go live using the encoder and the relevant YouTube controls. For a scheduled class, follow the current Live Control Room flow for that event rather than assuming all encoders use the same steps.

YouTube’s live encoder help covers connecting an encoder and using stream settings. Interface labels and workflows can change, so consult that current help page and your encoder’s own documentation when following exact controls.

Plan the timetable beyond the first class

  • Assign schedule ownership. Decide who updates the graphic when class times change and who checks that the correct version is on air.
  • Decide what viewers see between classes. A continuous feed needs an intentional gap-time picture or program, as well as a timetable that identifies the next class. Do not leave a misleading schedule up after a change.
  • Plan monitoring and interruption response. Identify who will notice a stopped or incorrect feed and what viewers should do if the stream is interrupted. The platform documentation does not provide a school’s staffing, internet-redundancy, or recovery plan.
  • Make recording decisions separately. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not assume a single continuous stream lasting 12 hours or longer will produce a complete automatic archive; plan separate recording and archive handling if a complete copy matters. Check YouTube’s current policy before relying on an archive.
  • Check content rights and channel rules. Use lesson video, music, images, and recordings only when the school or channel has the necessary rights and permissions. A timetable overlay does not change the rights status of the material being streamed.

YouTube’s official guidance covers scheduling a live stream and archiving live streams. A camera, microphone, capture device, or other physical equipment is not required just to put a timetable graphic into the stream; those items are relevant only if the program also needs live classroom audio or video capture.

Troubleshoot common timetable and stream problems

  • The timetable appears in the encoder but not on YouTube: Confirm the graphic or display source is included in the scene being sent to the encoder’s program output, then inspect YouTube’s preview. An item visible only in a separate editor or preview scene may not be part of the outgoing picture.
  • The timetable covers lesson content: Resize or reposition the source and review the combined output again. Keep essential teaching material unobstructed.
  • The schedule is unreadable on phones: Simplify the panel, increase text size, or reduce the number of details shown. Check the actual output at a small viewing size rather than judging only from the encoder workspace.
  • The wrong class or time is displayed: Check the day and time zone, update the schedule source, and verify that the correct scene or graphic is active. Assign a person to confirm changes before they go live.
  • The encoder will not connect: Verify the stream URL and key for the selected broadcast, confirm live streaming is enabled on the channel, and check the YouTube preview and encoder status. If this is the channel’s first live stream, activation may take up to 24 hours.
  • A long broadcast has no complete archive: A stream lasting 12 hours or more should not be relied on for a complete automatic YouTube archive. Use a separate recording and archive workflow when preserving the full day is important.

Or let it run in the cloud

If the video program is already prepared and you want it to loop on YouTube without keeping a home computer running, StreamNeo is a cloud option. Upload the recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. The cloud service keeps the uploaded video playing; it does not go live from a camera. The timetable graphic still needs to be part of the video you upload if viewers must see it over that video.
