You do not need to inspect every line of an AI-generated patch to catch the failures that repeatedly break a static site. Put a deterministic verifier after the build, make it inspect the files that will actually be deployed, and make deployment depend on its exit status. Humans can then spend their limited review time on architecture, product scope, and risky changes instead of counting headings or hunting for a missing route.
Othmane ETTAIB describes the pressure clearly: “Claude produces a plausible two-hundred-line diff in roughly a minute.” Carefully checking those 200 lines takes him “fifteen or twenty” minutes, so “I stopped trying to read faster.” His replacement is a dependency-free Node.js verifier that checks the built dist/ directory and blocks a failing branch from reaching the internet.
Why line-by-line review is the wrong control for repeatable failures
AI-generated code can look coherent while containing defects that are mechanical, visible in the final artifact, and easy to test. A reviewer may notice a clever abstraction or an obviously dangerous API call, yet still miss one duplicate heading, a renamed route that leaves a dead link, or a page omitted from the sitemap. Those checks do not become more reliable because a person reads faster; they become reliable when a machine performs the same test on every build.
The goal is not to remove engineering review. It is to separate two kinds of work:

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Mechanical verification: facts that can be expressed as pass/fail rules against generated files.
- Human judgment: whether an abstraction is appropriate, a feature is a good idea, a change has unacceptable blast radius, or an agent touched a high-risk area.
A verifier has “no opinion about whether the code is any good.” That is a useful boundary. It handles volume and repetition while people decide what the project should do.
What a build verifier does
The pattern is a short program, in this case scripts/verify.mjs, that walks the completed dist/ directory. It reports every forbidden condition it finds and exits with a non-zero status when any check fails. The package script npm run check runs the site build and then the verifier, so the test examines the same output that a deployment job would publish.
Pull requests run npm run check. The deployment job depends on that check rather than running independently. A failed branch therefore stops before publication, even when the source code compiles and the generated pages appear plausible in a browser.

| Check | What it proves | Failure that motivated it |
|---|---|---|
Exactly one <h1> per page |
Each generated document has one primary heading. | A generated template emitted two headings. |
alt on every <img> |
Images have an alternative-text attribute for accessibility review. | Lighthouse exposed accessibility regressions. |
| Internal links resolve | Site-absolute links point to a file or an index.html directory target that exists in dist/. |
A renamed route left a 404. |
_redirects targets resolve |
Redirect destinations still exist in the built site. | A redirect pointed to a deleted page. |
| No placeholder or filler copy | Draft markers do not reach production. | Placeholder text nearly shipped. |
| No Blogger markup | Migration-specific remnants are absent from output. | Old Blogger markup resurfaced. |
| Sitemap coverage | Every page is represented in sitemap.xml. |
New pages were silently omitted. |
These rules are deliberately concrete. They inspect the product a visitor, crawler, or hosting platform receives rather than relying only on source syntax.
Build the verifier around the deployed artifact
1. Run the normal build first
Keep the existing build command as the source of truth for generated output. Define npm run check so it invokes that command and then node scripts/verify.mjs. A verifier that runs against stale files can pass while the deployment contains something different; ordering the commands prevents that mismatch.

2. Walk every relevant file in dist/
Recursively enumerate generated HTML and standards-facing files. Read each HTML document as text, apply the structural checks, and retain the page path with every error. Do not silently skip nested directories: a blog post or localized page can violate the same rule as the home page.
3. Implement structural rules with narrow patterns
For the heading rule, count <h1 elements in each document and require exactly one. For images, detect every <img element and require an alt attribute; an empty value can be intentional for decorative art, but the attribute must be present so the accessibility decision is explicit. Keep each rule small enough that a failure points to one fix.
4. Resolve links against files that actually exist
The internal-link check handles site-absolute URLs, removes fragments and query strings, and then tests the resulting path against dist/. It accepts either a direct file target or a directory containing index.html. This catches route renames without confusing an in-page anchor or a tracking query for a separate resource. External URLs are outside this local existence test and need their own monitoring strategy.
5. Validate redirects and migration leftovers
Parse the _redirects file, identify each destination, and run that destination through the same file-or-directory resolution logic. Scan generated output for placeholder phrases and Blogger markup. These checks protect against content and migration regressions that a JavaScript type checker cannot see.
6. Compare the build with the sitemap
Collect the pages generated in dist/, normalize their paths, and compare them with entries in sitemap.xml. Report omissions in either direction according to the project’s policy. The point is to make a new page’s discoverability an observable build property rather than a memory task.
Standards-facing files need explicit validation
IndexNow key verification
The verifier checks the IndexNow key file as two related facts. The key must match the expected hexadecimal format, and the corresponding file named /${key}.txt must exist at the site root. If that file is missing, crawlers can silently ignore submissions; a successful build should not imply successful indexing.

app-ads.txt parsing
Do not treat app-ads.txt as an opaque text blob. Parse each field and validate it against the IAB specification used by the project. Field-level errors identify whether a seller identifier, relationship value, or certification field is malformed, making corrections safer than a generic “file invalid” message.

Use a Lighthouse budget without creating a flaky gate
The documented budget is performance of at least 90, accessibility exactly 100, best-practices exactly 100, and SEO exactly 100. A real contrast failure in code-comment gray demonstrated why a numeric gate matters: a small visual regression can be caught before a reviewer notices it.
Performance is different from the other scores on shared CI runners. CPU contention and network variance can produce a false miss. The gate therefore re-measures only when performance falls below 90 and stops after a defined retry limit. Accessibility, best-practices, and SEO failures should remain deterministic checks; repeatedly rerunning every failure would hide genuine defects.
Never make random failures routine. If developers learn that a red check usually turns green after clicking “retry,” they will ignore the entire verifier. Record the first and subsequent measurements so a retry is evidence of noise handling, not a silent bypass.
Make failures actionable for people and coding agents
An error should name the exact page, rule, and offending value. For example:

ERROR /blog/index.html: dead internal link → /games/word-slot
This message can be pasted into an AI coding session and usually leads directly to the route or link that needs correction. “Validation failed” creates another conversation in which someone must discover what failed before fixing it. Include enough context to distinguish a duplicate heading, missing attribute, unresolved redirect, sitemap omission, or standards-file error.
Emit all failures in one run instead of stopping at the first one. A single build may contain several generated pages with the same template defect; seeing the complete set avoids a slow fix-and-rerun loop. Exit non-zero after reporting them so the CI provider marks the check as failed.
Wire the check into pull requests and deployment
- Local development: run
npm run checkbefore opening a pull request. The command must rebuilddist/, then execute the verifier. - Pull-request CI: run the same command in a clean environment. Do not replace it with a source-only lint step; the generated artifact is the subject of the rules.
- Deployment dependency: configure the deployment job to require the successful check. A green build without a green verifier must not publish.
- Failure recovery: use the path and rule in the error, fix the source or content, rebuild, and rerun the same command locally.
- History: keep verifier changes under normal code review. A rule that is removed or weakened changes the release boundary and deserves the same scrutiny as application code.
This arrangement turns “did the agent introduce a known defect?” into a property of the release pipeline instead of a question asked from memory.
Do not begin with an exhaustive rulebook
Start with incidents you can name. A rule earns its place when a defect has occurred, can be expressed deterministically, and has a repair that the error message can point toward. The heading, image, link, redirect, placeholder, migration, sitemap, IndexNow, and advertising-file checks all meet that test.
Recommended Free Tools
An enormous list of speculative rules creates noise. Rarely firing checks lengthen builds, produce ambiguous failures, and teach the team to ignore warnings. Add one rule at a time, run it against current output, and remove or refine rules that cannot distinguish a real problem from an intentional exception.

How to compare verifier designs
| Decision axis | Question to ask | Strong implementation signal |
|---|---|---|
| Determinism | Does the same artifact produce the same result? | Pure file checks; retries limited to known noisy measurements. |
| Coverage | Does it inspect generated output and external-facing files? | Checks include HTML, redirects, sitemap, IndexNow, and app-ads.txt, not only source syntax. |
| Signal-to-noise | Will a failure suggest a fix? | Observed incidents become narrow rules with page-specific messages. |
| Deployment enforcement | Can a failing branch still publish? | The deployment job depends on the verifier’s successful status. |
| Flake resistance | Are noisy measurements isolated? | Only a performance miss is re-measured, with a retry limit. |
| Human scope | Which decisions remain explicitly owned by people? | Architecture, feature value, abstraction quality, and high-risk blast radius stay in review. |
What the build cannot decide
A passing verifier does not prove that an abstraction is maintainable, that a feature belongs in the product, or that an agent’s change is safe in a sensitive subsystem. It cannot assess the quality of a data model, the clarity of a domain boundary, or the consequences of a security-sensitive design unless those concerns have been reduced to a specific automated test.
Use risk to allocate human attention. A tiny content edit that passes every deterministic check may need no exhaustive review. A change to authentication, payments, permissions, deployment configuration, or data deletion may deserve an experienced reviewer even when the build is green. The verifier answers “does the artifact satisfy these known invariants?” It does not answer “should we make this change?”
A practical rollout plan
Week one: capture the baseline
- Run the build and list the files that are actually deployed.
- Record existing violations without blocking publication.
- Choose the smallest set of rules tied to real incidents.
Week two: make output clean
- Fix duplicate headings, missing image attributes, dead links, redirect targets, placeholders, migration markup, and sitemap omissions.
- Confirm the IndexNow key and root file agree.
- Parse and correct each
app-ads.txtfield.
Week three: enforce pull requests
- Make
npm run checka required pull-request status. - Review failure messages with both human contributors and AI coding tools.
- Measure how often retries occur and whether they are confined to performance.
Week four: enforce release
- Make deployment depend on the required status rather than duplicating checks.
- Document the human review triggers for high-risk areas.
- Add new rules only when a failure pattern is understood and actionable.
Frequently asked questions
Should the verifier test source files too?
Source linting can catch syntax and style issues, but it cannot replace artifact checks. A template can compile while generating two <h1> elements, a broken route, or an omitted sitemap entry. Use both layers when each has a distinct purpose.
Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteWindows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread

Keep the alt attribute and use an empty value for a deliberately decorative image. The verifier is checking that the accessibility choice is represented in markup, not that every image has descriptive prose.
How should dynamic routes be handled?
Generate the routes during the build so they appear in dist/, then let the same file-or-directory resolver test links against that output. If a route is intentionally served outside the static artifact, document and test that exception separately rather than weakening every internal-link check.
When is a performance retry justified?
Only when the Lighthouse performance score misses the 90 threshold and the environment is known to be noisy. Keep the retry count bounded and preserve the measurements; accessibility, best-practices, and SEO failures should not be retried as a way to obtain a pass.
Does a green verifier mean AI code is safe?
No. It means the generated artifact satisfies the invariants you encoded. Human reviewers still decide architecture, feature scope, and whether a change touched a high-risk area.
