To share slides during a livestream, use the platform’s built-in presentation feature if it supports your deck; otherwise share the slide-show tab or window. Use OBS when you want more control over how slides, camera video, and other sources appear together. Before going live, check that the audience sees the right screen and that slide controls and any needed audio work.
Choose a slide-sharing method
| Method | Best for | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Built-in presentation | Presenting a supported deck without capturing another app, especially on one monitor. | In StreamYard, animations, audio, and video embedded in presentations are not supported. |
| Share a tab or window | Showing a deck in Google Slides or PowerPoint, including features that need to play from the app. | You need to select the correct tab, window, or display and add it to the live stage. |
| OBS scene | Arranging slides, camera video, and other sources in a custom composition. | Capture-source names and availability depend on operating system and OBS version. |
If you are presenting in a meeting platform such as Zoom, check the actual livestream output rather than assuming the meeting layout will be carried through. Zoom says its presenter layouts are not supported in cloud recordings or live streaming.
Use a built-in slide presentation
For a StreamYard studio, the built-in Slides feature is a convenient way to put a deck on stage without sharing your entire screen.
- Open the studio and choose Present → Slides.
- Import Google Slides by signing in to Google and granting access, or upload a local presentation file. Supported uploads include .pptx, .ppt, .pps, .ppsx, .odp, and .pdf.
- After the deck processes, add it to the stage and use the on-screen controls to present.
StreamYard’s built-in presentations do not support animations, audio, or video within the deck. Use screen sharing instead if those elements matter. Uploaded media presentations also do not persist after leaving the studio, so you may need to upload them again for a later broadcast. StreamYard’s slide-presentation instructions describe the workflow and limitations.

Share Google Slides from a Chrome tab
- Open your Google Slides deck, then open or return to the StreamYard studio.
- Choose Present → Share Screen.
- Select the Chrome tab containing the deck, then start the slideshow.
- If the share is not already on stage, add it to the stage.
- Advance slides with the spacebar, arrow keys, or a mouse click.
If the tab needs to play audio, enable the share-audio option. The screen-share guide says audio sharing is supported for Chrome tabs. See StreamYard’s screen-sharing instructions and its Google Slides guidance.
Share a PowerPoint presentation
- Open the deck in PowerPoint and start Slide Show from the beginning or from the current slide.
- In the studio, choose Present → Share Screen and select the PowerPoint Slide Show window or the monitor showing the slideshow.
- Add the share to the stage if required, then switch back to the slideshow window to advance slides.
With more than one monitor, StreamYard’s instructions say to disable Use Presenter View if needed so the slideshow appears on only one screen. Select the monitor that shows the audience-facing slides, not the presenter controls. Its presentation guide covers PowerPoint sharing.

Show slides and your camera together
For a straightforward presentation, add the shared slides to the studio and then add your camera as another stage element, arranging the layout so neither the slide text nor your face is obscured. For more exact positioning, use OBS to build a scene with a slide capture and webcam source. Rehearse the intended output: a meeting’s presenter view may not appear the same way in its recording or livestream.
A second monitor can make screen sharing easier: keep the live studio and controls on one display and the slideshow on the other. StreamYard notes this as a helpful setup. If you regularly present on a laptop with one screen, an external monitor is optional—not a requirement—but can reduce the need to switch between the studio and slides.

Compose slides and camera in OBS
OBS lets you add display or window capture sources to a scene alongside a webcam and other elements. Display capture shows an entire monitor; window capture targets an application window on supported configurations. Capture-source options vary by OS: OBS documents macOS Screen Capture for macOS 13 or newer, while the older Display Capture source is available on Windows and macOS through 12.6. Linux uses other capture paths. Check the current OBS documentation for your operating system and version before following exact menu steps.
- Open OBS and create or select a scene for the presentation.
- Add the appropriate display-capture or window-capture source for the slides. Select the monitor or application window that shows the audience-facing presentation.
- Add a webcam source if you want to appear alongside the deck, then resize and position the sources in the scene.
- Configure audio sources as needed, and verify the stream settings and preview before going live.
- Run a test stream or recording and confirm that the slides, camera, slide advancement, and required audio all work.
The OBS Project’s Quick Start Guide recommends testing before a first stream: “We strongly encourage running a test for a few minutes to make sure that there are no issues, rather than just jumping in to your first stream or recording.” Official capture-source documentation is available for macOS Screen Capture, Display Capture, and Window Capture.

- Advance through several slides and check that the controls work in the shared window or capture.
- Check text readability and make sure your camera layout does not cover important slide content.
- Play any required audio or video and verify the audience can hear it. Built-in StreamYard presentations do not support embedded audio or video.
- For Zoom or another meeting platform, confirm the separate livestream or recording output actually includes the layout you expect.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is an always-on YouTube channel built from uploaded recordings rather than a live presentation from your camera, StreamNeo is a different workflow: upload a video or make a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops the uploaded video from the cloud, so your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. It is not a way to broadcast a live camera presentation.
StreamNeo streams an uploaded video as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot with no re-encode or quality tiers. It can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, one free day per account. The monthly option is $9.99 per month.
