To set your normal weekly availability in Google Calendar, use Calendar on a computer: open Settings > General > Working hours, enable the feature, choose your workdays, and enter the hours. You can add more than one time block for a day. Working hours are available for work or school accounts, and an administrator may disable the setting.
How to set working hours in Google Calendar
- On a computer, open Google Calendar.
- At the top right, select Settings, then select Settings again.
- Under General in the left menu, select Working hours. If working location is enabled, the option may be labeled Working hours and location.
- In the Working hours section, select Enable working hours.
- Select the days you work and enter a start time and end time for each day.
- To add another availability period on a day, select Add next to that day. Select Remove to delete a period.
For each time block, enter a start time earlier than its end time. Calendar may suggest working hours based on your time zone, work patterns in your country, and your schedule; you can accept, decline, or edit the suggestions.
Why don’t I see the working hours option?
Google says working hours and availability are available when your account is provided through a work or school organization. Google’s settings overview also describes the feature as requiring an eligible Google Workspace subscription, but it does not list a universal set of qualifying editions. Availability can depend on the organization’s settings.
- Check that you are signed in to your work or school account rather than a personal account.
- If the option is still missing, ask your organization’s administrator whether working hours are enabled. An administrator can turn the feature off.
Can I set working hours in the Calendar app?
No. Google’s instructions say working hours can only be turned on from a computer, and its Android and iOS app guidance does not provide steps for enabling them. Use Calendar in a desktop browser to set your hours. The apps do document adding or editing a working-location entry, which is a separate feature.

Working hours or out of office: which should you use?
| Calendar feature | Use it for | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Working hours | Your recurring weekly availability | Shows meeting organizers when you are generally available so they can find a suitable time. |
| Out of office | A specific absence, such as leave | Marks the selected period as an absence and can automatically decline meetings during that time. |
Use working hours for your usual schedule and create an out-of-office event for a particular absence. Google’s guidance for setting up out-of-office events covers that separate task.
What to check if your displayed times look wrong
Check the Calendar time zone and local-time display. Google says Calendar converts events to UTC and displays them in local time; daylight-saving changes can affect how past or future events appear. Its working-hours guidance does not specify a separate time-zone setting for working hours.
