Start with the built-in controls and combat-visibility options you actually need, then use Edit Mode to arrange and save your HUD. Treat graphics choices as personal preferences: the available guidance does not establish a universally best preset or measured performance winner. WoW: Forever is in beta, so menu labels and options may change between updates.

Adjust controls and everyday behavior

Open the game’s settings and review these options. The choices below are preferences, not mandatory “best settings”; the names and paths may shift as the beta changes. The recommendations are described in the September 2026 Mobalytics beta guide, which is a third-party source rather than Blizzard documentation: Mobalytics WoW settings guide.

  • Sticky Targeting: When enabled, your selected target remains selected if you click the terrain. Disable it if you want a click on the environment to clear your target.
  • Auto Loot: Choose the right-click and modifier-key behavior that suits how you loot. These options reduce input steps, but there is no established amount of time they save.
  • Combined bags: A combined inventory keeps items in one view and is simpler to scan. Separate bags may be more useful if you sort items by category as your inventory fills.
  • Camera behavior: The guide describes the default camera as recentering behind your character while moving. Select “Never” if you prefer to rotate the camera manually without that automatic recentering.

Make combat information easier to read

Use the interface options to put the information you need where you can see it. The Mobalytics guide covers these built-in features; whether they help depends on your role, play style, and screen layout.

  • Show both percentages and numeric values for health and resources if you want a quick visual read as well as exact amounts.
  • For group play, consider power bars, class colors, and indicators for dispellable debuffs in raid frames.
  • Try the personal resource display, silhouette visibility for characters obscured by objects, and target-of-target display if those details help you track combat.
  • Explore click casting on nameplates or the player HUD if you want to cast on a unit without selecting it first. Configure the bindings to match your own habits.
  • Use the cooldown manager to make cooldowns and timers visible, and configure nameplates to highlight important casts where available.

These native options are worth exploring before adding interface mods, but the guide does not establish that they cover every add-on use case.

Arrange and save your HUD in Edit Mode

Edit Mode is the documented place to move and toggle HUD elements. The Wowhead walkthrough is labeled patch 1.60.1; the beta interface may change, so confirm the labels in your client. See the Wowhead Edit Mode guide.

  1. Press Esc to open the Game Menu, then choose Edit Mode.
  2. Select a preset layout as a starting point. Turn on the grid if it helps you line up elements, and enable snapping while positioning frames and bars.
  3. Select a highlighted UI element to open its submenu, then drag it to the position you want. If something is missing, check Advanced Options for toggles such as the Stance Bar or Extra Action Button.
  4. When the arrangement is ready, create and name a layout. The guide says layouts may be character-specific and can be shared or imported.

A default layout is quicker to use; a custom layout takes time to arrange but lets you place information around your preferred priorities. If a change appears stuck, Mobalytics suggests entering /reload. Treat that as a troubleshooting tip, not a guarantee for every beta build.

Choose SD or HD character models by appearance

Icy Veins describes a choice between SD (Classic) and HD (Retail) character models. Players can preview the models during character creation and change the setting later. The guide says the choice affects player characters and NPCs throughout the world; it also describes changes involving volumetric fog, dynamic lighting, and water visuals. Compare both in-game and keep the look you prefer. Neither option is established as universally better. See the Icy Veins graphics settings guide.

No controlled graphics benchmark, test hardware, or measured frame-rate difference is established by these guides. If you are tuning for performance, change one graphics option at a time and compare in the same scene. Keep the combination that meets your own visual and frame-rate goals rather than relying on an unsupported universal preset.

Optional: enable gamepad controls

If you want controller input, the Icy Veins guide describes enabling Gamepad in Settings. It describes the left stick for movement and the right stick for camera control, with controller-oriented hotbars replacing standard hotbars. Its account is four bars of eight abilities each, accessed through button or directional-pad combinations with the triggers; a tap-trigger option is also described. The guide also covers focusing nearby interactable objects, cycling targets with bumpers, and opening menus with the Start button and radial navigation.

This is a different control scheme from keyboard and mouse: it uses controller hotbars, target cycling, and menu navigation rather than the familiar direct input of keyboard and mouse. The guide does not establish compatibility for any named controller model. If choosing a controller for PC, check the individual listing’s PC compatibility; no specific model is verified here.

Recheck settings after beta updates

The detailed guides cited here are third-party sources, not official Blizzard documentation; Icy Veins explicitly states it is not affiliated with or endorsed by Blizzard. Their guidance describes beta-era features, including Mobalytics’ September 2026 settings coverage and Wowhead’s patch 1.60.1 Edit Mode walkthrough. Since the client and its menus can change, verify the current in-game labels whenever an update alters the settings you use.
