The SteelSeries Aeon Pro connects to Xbox through its base station, while a PC can use the base station, a USB-C-to-USB-A cable, or Bluetooth. Mobile devices use Bluetooth. On the controller, hold View and Menu, open System Select, choose XBOX, PC, or Bluetooth, and press A. When pairing is active, the target device should list Aeon Pro.
Use SteelSeries GG on a Windows PC for advanced remapping, deadzone, trigger, profile, and power controls. The OLED menu handles many everyday settings without a computer.
What you need before setup
Prepare the controller, its base station if you are connecting to Xbox or using PC wireless, and the cable required for your platform. Charge the controller or install its battery before pairing. Put the base station close enough for both its console or computer cable and the controller to reach it.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Xbox: the Aeon Pro base station is required. Connect it with the station’s dedicated Xbox port.
- PC: use the base station’s PC port for wireless operation and SteelSeries GG, or connect the controller directly with a USB-C-to-USB-A cable. Bluetooth is another PC option.
- Mobile: use Bluetooth; a base station is not required.
- Optional Windows software: install SteelSeries GG if you want profiles, deeper remapping, deadzone and trigger controls, or detailed power settings.
The controller has a dual-docking base station, QuickSwitch connectivity, and an OLED display. You can select the connection target and adjust many controller settings from the OLED even when no computer is available.

Connection methods at a glance
| Platform | Connection | Base-station requirement | SteelSeries GG access | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Xbox | Wireless through base station | Required; use the dedicated Xbox port | Not used for Xbox pairing | USB or Bluetooth pairing is not the Xbox setup path |
| PC | Base-station wireless, USB-C-to-USB-A, or Bluetooth | Optional unless you want the base-station wireless path | Available when the base station is connected to the PC port | Choose the matching target in System Select |
| Mobile | Bluetooth | Not required | Not applicable to the mobile connection | Select Aeon Pro in the phone or tablet Bluetooth list |
How to connect Aeon Pro to Xbox
1. Connect the base station to the correct Xbox port
Connect the base station to the Xbox using its dedicated Xbox port. The station has separate connection paths, so do not use the PC port for this step. Confirm that the cable is fully seated at both ends.
2. Turn on the controller
Power on the Aeon Pro and keep it within normal wireless range of the base station. If it was previously connected to another device, selecting the Xbox target manually prevents it from trying to reconnect to the old target.
3. Select Xbox from the OLED menu
- Hold View and Menu together to open the OLED settings.
- Open System Select.
- Use the d-pad to choose XBOX.
- Press A to confirm.
The OLED should show a pairing state. On the Xbox, complete the connection when the console presents Aeon Pro. The target name matters: if the controller says it is pairing but no Aeon Pro entry appears, return to System Select and repeat the Xbox selection.
4. Confirm operation
Test the sticks, buttons, and any connected headset in a game or the Xbox accessories area. If the controller does not connect, first verify that the cable is in the dedicated Xbox port, then repeat the System Select procedure with the controller close to the station.

How to set up Aeon Pro on a PC with the base station
1. Use the base station’s PC port
Connect the base station to the computer through its PC port. This is the port SteelSeries documents for PC wireless setup and access to SteelSeries GG. A cable in the Xbox port will not provide the intended PC/GG path.
2. Select PC on the controller
- Turn on the controller.
- Hold View and Menu to open the OLED menu.
- Choose System Select.
- Select PC with the d-pad and press A.
Wait for the controller and base station to establish the PC connection. If Windows does not recognize it, check the port and cable before changing software settings.
3. Open SteelSeries GG
Install and launch SteelSeries GG on Windows, open Engine, and select the Aeon Pro banner. The controller’s configuration page is where you manage profiles and the deeper controls that are not exposed on the OLED.
For power behavior, open the controller’s OLED & Settings area in GG and review Power Options. The same idle behavior can also be changed from the controller’s OLED menu.
How to use Aeon Pro on a PC without the base station
USB-C-to-USB-A connection
Connect the controller directly to the computer with a USB-C-to-USB-A cable. This is the simplest fallback when the base station is unavailable. After connecting, select PC from System Select if the controller is not already in that mode.

A direct wired connection is also the PC mode associated with the controller’s highest published polling figure: SteelSeries Support lists up to 1,000 Hz on PC over a wired or wireless connection. The same source lists 250 Hz for PC or Xbox when a headset is connected; these are published specifications, not a guarantee that every game reports or benefits from the same rate.
Bluetooth connection
- Hold View and Menu on the controller.
- Open System Select.
- Choose Bluetooth and press A.
- Open the computer’s Bluetooth settings and start a device search.
- Select Aeon Pro when it appears.
Leave the OLED in its pairing state while searching. If the computer shows a different or incomplete name, cancel the attempt, re-enter Bluetooth mode, and search again.

Using the OLED menu after pairing
The OLED is useful for changes that do not require a computer. Hold View and Menu to open it, then navigate with the d-pad and confirm choices with A or Menu as indicated on screen.
- System Select: switch among XBOX, PC, and Bluetooth targets.
- Mapping: change button assignments.
- Haptics: adjust controller feedback.
- Circularity: adjust stick response behavior.
- Calibration: run the controller’s calibration routine.
- OLED brightness: change display brightness.
- Wake behavior and idle settings: control how the controller wakes and powers down.
- Factory reset: restore default controller settings.
SteelSeries says that many settings can be adjusted directly on the OLED. Advanced deadzone and shift-key controls require GG on a computer.

Remap buttons directly on the controller
- Hold View and Menu to open the OLED menu.
- Choose Mapping.
- Select the button you want to change.
- Press Menu to confirm the button selection.
- Choose the new binding.
- Press Menu again to save it.
The OLED displays Mapping Completed. Saved when the assignment has been stored. If the message does not appear, repeat the final confirmation rather than assuming the change was saved.
Configure profiles and power behavior in SteelSeries GG
GG is the PC utility for settings that are more detailed than the OLED menu. Connect the base station to the computer’s PC port, open GG, enter Engine, and select the Aeon Pro device banner.
Settings that benefit from GG
- Profiles for different games or control layouts.
- Advanced button and shift-key assignments.
- Deadzone and trigger adjustments.
- OLED and other display settings.
- Power behavior and idle timeout options.
Change idle power-off
Open the Aeon Pro page in GG, go to OLED & Settings, and review Power Options. Adjust Idle Power Off to suit your use. The controller also exposes an IDLE PWR OFF setting in its OLED menu. Power-saving is enabled by default, so an apparently random shutdown after inactivity may be normal rather than a pairing failure.

Battery life and polling specifications
SteelSeries Support figures published in 2026 vary with the connection and whether a headset is plugged into the controller:

| Bluetooth | 14 hours | SteelSeries Support figure, 2026 |
Actual runtime changes with settings, battery condition, wireless activity, and accessory use. Treat these as published operating figures rather than a promise for every session.
Polling also depends on the mode. SteelSeries Support lists 250 Hz on Xbox or PC with a headset and 1,000 Hz on PC over wired or wireless connection. The 1,000 Hz figure applies to PC operation; it does not change the Xbox requirement for the base station.
Troubleshoot pairing and connection problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Xbox cannot find the controller | Wrong base-station port or wrong system target | Move the cable to the dedicated Xbox port, open System Select, choose XBOX, and press A. |
| PC wireless setup fails | Station is connected through the Xbox port | Use the PC port, then select PC in System Select and retry. |
| Bluetooth search shows nothing | Controller is not in Bluetooth pairing mode | Hold View and Menu, choose Bluetooth in System Select, press A, and keep the OLED on its pairing screen while searching. |
| PC base station is unavailable | Station, cable, or USB port problem | Use a direct USB-C-to-USB-A cable or Bluetooth on the PC. |
| The device name is unclear | Pairing was not fully initiated | Cancel the old attempt, re-enter the correct System Select mode, and look specifically for Aeon Pro. |
| Controller turns off while you are away | Idle power-off is enabled | Review IDLE PWR OFF on the OLED or Idle Power Off under GG’s Power Options. |
| Remap appears not to work | Final save confirmation was missed | Repeat Mapping and press Menu after choosing the new binding; wait for “Mapping Completed. Saved.” |
When switching between platforms
Do not rely on the previous connection mode when moving from Xbox to PC, mobile, or back again. Open System Select every time and choose the new target explicitly. On PC, also verify whether you are using the base station, USB, or Bluetooth, because each path has a different setup and different access to GG.
When settings become confusing
Use the OLED’s factory-reset option only after checking the connection target and base-station port. A reset removes customized controller settings, so save or note important mappings and profiles in GG first when possible. After the reset, select the appropriate system again and pair from scratch.

Choosing the best setup for your use
- Xbox player: use the base station through its Xbox port; this is the required method.
- PC player who wants profiles and advanced tuning: connect the base station through the PC port and use GG.
- PC player who wants the fewest accessories: use a USB-C-to-USB-A cable.
- PC or mobile player who prioritizes convenience: use Bluetooth, accepting that GG’s computer-only controls are not part of the mobile connection.
- Player moving between systems: keep the base station connected to the appropriate port and use System Select to change targets rather than waiting for automatic switching.
