For different prerecorded rotations, create a separate OBS scene and VLC Video Source for each stream, then send each output to its matching YouTube broadcast using the correct stream URL and key. Turn on Loop Playlist, choose whether to shuffle, and verify every queue and destination before leaving it running. If several broadcasts should show the same feed, YouTube also supports binding one stream to multiple broadcasts—but that duplicates the feed; it does not create separate queues.
Choose the right setup for your streams
First decide whether each broadcast needs its own content rotation or whether multiple broadcasts should show the same incoming feed. YouTube distinguishes the encoder feed from the viewer-facing event: its Live Streaming API guide explains that a liveStream carries the feed and its settings, while a liveBroadcast represents the event viewers watch. A broadcast is associated with one video stream.

For genuinely different rotations, use separate queues and separate outputs. The documented “up to three” capability is a limit on bindings for one stream resource, not a promise of three independent encoder feeds or playlists. Google’s guide describes separate stream resources as a common approach for simultaneous broadcasts with different content or settings.
Build a separate playlist queue in OBS for each rotation
1. Install the VLC dependency
OBS’s VLC Video Source requires VLC to be installed. The OBS Project’s documentation specifies 64-bit VLC when using 64-bit OBS. If the VLC Video Source is missing from OBS’s source options, check that VLC is installed with the matching architecture.

2. Make a scene and queue for each destination
- In OBS, create a scene for the first intended stream.
- Add a VLC Video Source and add the local media files in the order you want them to play.
- Enable Loop Playlist to restart the list after its final item. Leave Shuffle Playlist off for a predictable sequence, or enable it for randomized playback.
- Add any overlays and other audio sources required for that stream. Check the source’s visibility behavior and audio-track settings if a scene may be hidden or a file contains multiple tracks.
- Repeat for each distinct rotation. Give each scene and source an unambiguous name, such as “Stream A — queue” and “Stream B — queue,” so it is harder to pair a queue with the wrong destination.
The VLC Video Source is the OBS option documented for a list of media items; the OBS Project describes it as allowing a playlist, “similar to an Image Slideshow.” A standard Media Source is intended for one local media file and has its own Loop option. The VLC playlist rotates the files you select—it is not a way to paste in an arbitrary YouTube playlist URL.
Connect each queue to the matching YouTube broadcast
1. Create or select the broadcast
For each output, create or select its intended event in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. Confirm the channel, broadcast title, and privacy setting. Keep a private mapping of output name → queue → destination channel → stream key → broadcast. This simple record is especially useful when several streams are scheduled at once.

2. Enter the stream URL and key in the encoder
YouTube’s encoder setup guide directs creators to provide the stream URL and stream key to the encoder, unless they are using a supported direct YouTube integration. Put the URL and key for the intended broadcast into the matching output. Treat stream keys as credentials: do not expose them in screenshots, public notes, or instructions.
For a scheduled broadcast, YouTube’s encoder guide describes checking the preview and choosing Go live when ready. Sending encoder data and making the broadcast live to viewers are distinct actions. OBS’s YouTube integration and scheduled-stream controls can affect automatic start and stop behavior, so check the controls displayed in your current Live Control Room and OBS version; interface labels and behavior may change.

Configure and validate every output
The exact way to run multiple independent outputs depends on the OBS version, supported output arrangement, encoding hardware, and available network bandwidth. YouTube’s documentation supports separate stream resources for different simultaneous feeds, but it does not establish a universal number of streams one computer, account, or network can sustain. Confirm that your chosen OBS setup can produce each independent output before relying on it unattended.

- Confirm the intended queue is playing and its audio reaches the output.
- Check that the playlist loops or shuffles as intended.
- Confirm the selected broadcast and privacy setting belong to that queue.
- Check YouTube’s preview and stream-health panel for a received signal and configuration issues.
- Test how a disconnect and restart behave with the scheduled broadcast’s current automatic start/stop settings.
YouTube’s LiveStreams API reference includes stream status and health/configuration issue fields. A short local or unlisted run can reveal a wrong file order, missing audio, or a mismatched destination before you make a broadcast public. It does not prove the setup will remain stable for an extended unattended run.

Know what the archive guidance does—and does not—say
YouTube’s encoder guidance says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That is an archive threshold, not a recommended maximum runtime, and it does not establish that an uninterrupted multi-day stream will produce a complete replay. If replay availability matters, check YouTube’s current guidance and consider whether shorter broadcasts better fit your archive needs.

Scheduled-broadcast automatic start and stop settings can affect what happens when an encoder starts or stops, including after an interruption. Verify those settings in the current interface and decide in advance how you want the event to behave after a disconnect.
Use media you have the rights to stream
Only put media in a rotation that you created or have permission to stream. The ability to loop a file does not grant rights to its music, video, performance, or redistribution. YouTube’s channel monetization policies also apply to live streams: highly repetitive or mass-produced content may be ineligible for YouTube Partner Program monetization, and reused content may need significant original commentary, substantive modification, or educational or entertainment value. Reused-content review is separate from copyright permission, so permission alone does not establish monetization eligibility. YouTube’s policy page carries an update note dated July 15, 2025; check the current policy before relying on it.
Common problems and fixes
- VLC Video Source is unavailable: Install VLC and restart OBS. If OBS is 64-bit, use 64-bit VLC, as the OBS documentation specifies.
- The queue stops after the final file: Open the VLC Video Source settings and enable Loop Playlist.
- Files play in an unexpected order: Check the selected file order and turn off Shuffle Playlist if you need a fixed sequence.
- Audio is missing or comes from the wrong track: Check the source’s audio-track settings and any other audio sources in the scene; confirm the correct audio is present in YouTube’s preview.
- The wrong show appears on a broadcast: Compare the output, queue, destination channel, stream key, and broadcast against your private mapping. Correct the mismatched pairing before going public.
- YouTube does not receive the encoder signal: Verify that the correct stream URL and key are entered for the selected event, then check YouTube’s preview and health information for configuration issues.
- A second broadcast shows the wrong rotation: A stream bound to multiple broadcasts sends the same incoming feed to each. Use separate feed outputs and queues when broadcasts need different content.
- Broadcast start or stop behavior is unexpected after a reconnect: Review the scheduled broadcast’s automatic start/stop settings in the current YouTube interface and test the intended recovery behavior before depending on it.
