On Steam Deck, install and update the Steam version of Minecraft Dungeons II, then try launching it with Steam’s default compatibility settings. Mojang said in October 2026 that the game should now be playable on Steam Deck, while warning that on-screen keyboard problems may remain. That update does not confirm compatibility across desktop Linux or recommend a specific Proton version.
Is Minecraft Dungeons II available for Linux?
The game launched on September 29, 2026, and its PC release is available on Steam. The official platform announcement lists Steam alongside Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2. Linux players using Proton need the Steam version; the console releases are not Proton setup options.
There is no native Linux support confirmed in the official information cited here. Mojang’s compatibility update specifically concerns Steam Deck, so it should not be read as a blanket statement that the game works on every desktop Linux distribution.
How to set it up on Steam Deck
- Install the Steam release. Find Minecraft Dungeons II in Steam and install it through the Steam client.
- Update the game and Steam. The Steam Deck playability statement followed a post-launch game update, so use the current game version before diagnosing an earlier launch problem.
- Try the normal launch path. Launch the game from your Steam library using the current default compatibility configuration. Mojang has not specified a Proton build, launch option, or manual file change as a requirement.
- Check text-entry controls. If you reach a screen that requires typing and the on-screen keyboard does not work, use another available keyboard input method if possible. Mojang has identified missing on-screen keyboard functionality as a possible issue.
- Recheck updates if problems persist. Mojang said further improvements were planned toward full Steam Deck verification. Consult the game’s current update information rather than assuming the launch-day behavior is still current.
Mojang’s October 2026 update says the game “should now be playable on Steam Deck,” but also notes that some issues may occur. Playable is not the same as fully verified.

What to expect on desktop Linux
The official Steam Deck update does not provide a desktop Linux compatibility claim or a recommended Proton configuration. It is reasonable to try the Steam version with Steam’s compatibility tools, but success on a Deck does not establish success on a desktop system with a different distribution, graphics hardware, or Proton setup.
A launch-period Proton Experimental report described the game requesting Gaming Services and then opening without a visible window. That report predates Mojang’s Steam Deck update; it documents an earlier symptom, not proof that the latest game build still fails. Before relying on a particular configuration, check current reports for your distribution, hardware, and Proton build.

Troubleshoot the problem you actually have
The game will not launch or opens to a blank screen
- Confirm Steam and the game are updated, then try the standard Steam launch path again.
- Look for recent reports tied to your specific Linux distribution, graphics hardware, and Proton version. An older launch failure may have been affected by subsequent game updates.
- Avoid treating unofficial DLL replacements or community scripts as routine setup steps. Such workarounds appeared during the launch failure, but the later official update changed the context and Mojang has not validated those modifications.
You cannot type or use the on-screen keyboard
This is a caveat Mojang has explicitly flagged for Steam Deck. Try an available physical or alternate keyboard input method, and check later game updates for the promised improvements.
Login or account linking fails
In a September 30, 2026 developer update, Mojang said most backend login and account-linking issues had been resolved and asked affected players to try again. That was a dated status update, not a guarantee that every account issue is fixed now. Retry, then consult current game updates if the problem continues.

The game crashes or behaves unstably
Mojang’s September 30 update said hotfixes were in progress to address crashes and improve stability. Check the latest game update information for the current status before applying older troubleshooting advice.
