To stream a Marathi playlist to YouTube Live with FFmpeg, create a concat playlist file, copy the RTMPS ingest URL and stream key from YouTube Studio, then run FFmpeg with settings that match your stream’s target. For an audio-only playlist, add a still image as video; for video files, map their video and audio streams. This guide assumes the media files are accessible on your computer, FFmpeg is installed, and you can create a YouTube Live stream. The Marathi language does not change the encoder setup.
1. Prepare the playlist and check the media
FFmpeg’s concat demuxer reads a text file and processes its entries in sequence. Create a UTF-8 text file named playlist.ffconcat with one file directive per line. For example, on a Linux system:

file '/media/Marathi/track-02.mp3'The first line must begin at the very start of the file. Replace the sample paths with real paths on the computer that will run FFmpeg. Filenames containing apostrophes or other special characters need to be quoted or escaped according to FFmpeg’s concat syntax.
The concat demuxer is best suited to files with compatible streams, including matching codecs and time bases. Incorrect or estimated file durations can cause timestamp gaps. If tracks differ in codec, channel layout, sample rate, or other stream properties, normalize them before relying on stream copy, or use a filter-based concat workflow that re-encodes the output. The simple example below is not a universal solution for arbitrary media mixes.

For audio-only tracks, a still image can provide the video stream YouTube Live expects. Choose a valid image and an output frame size and rate suitable for the channel. For a playlist of video files, inspect the streams with ffprobe and map the playlist’s video and audio streams instead of adding an image input.
2. Get the YouTube Live ingest details
- In YouTube Studio, open Create > Go Live.
- In the Live Control Room’s Stream tab, create a stream or select an appropriate existing one.
- Copy the server URL and stream key shown for that stream. Enter both in FFmpeg’s output destination. YouTube’s encoder instructions say, “To start streaming, enter your YouTube Live server URL and stream key into your encoder.” See YouTube’s encoder setup instructions.
Use the RTMPS URL displayed in Live Control Room when your FFmpeg build supports it. YouTube recommends RTMPS, which carries RTMP over TLS/SSL; the exact URL and port are determined by the stream settings, so do not assume one endpoint works for every stream. Treat the stream key like a password: do not publish it in an article, screenshot, public repository, or shared command history. On some systems, command-line arguments may also be visible in process listings.

3. Run a baseline FFmpeg command
Audio playlist with a still image
This illustrative command loops an audio playlist and a still image, encodes H.264 video and AAC audio, and sends the result to the YouTube ingest endpoint:

The command’s 30 fps, 60-frame GOP, stereo AAC settings, and video bitrate are examples, not universal requirements. A two-second GOP at 30 fps corresponds to 60 frames. The command also assumes the local FFmpeg build includes the libx264 encoder. Option availability can vary by build.

For safer operation, keep credentials in a protected configuration or secret-handling mechanism rather than pasting them into a command that may remain in shell history. Choose a bitrate based on the actual output resolution and frame rate, and ensure the connection can sustain it with headroom.
Video playlist
For video files, remove the still-image input and map the playlist streams instead. First inspect the input with ffprobe; then use explicit -map options for the intended video and audio streams. If all source files are compatible and their codecs and parameters are accepted by the ingest, stream copy can reduce CPU use. However, stream copy does not let FFmpeg normalize the output or ensure it meets the desired codec, profile, bitrate, or frame-rate settings. Re-encoding gives more control but uses more CPU.

Choose output settings for the stream
YouTube’s current encoder guidance recommends H.264, CBR, AAC or MP3 for RTMP/RTMPS, and a two-second keyframe frequency (not more than four seconds). Its H.264 bitrate recommendations include:

For stereo audio, YouTube’s advanced settings specify 44.1 kHz and 128 Kbps. For 5.1 audio, they specify 48 kHz and 384 Kbps; RTMP/RTMPS supports 5.1 audio only with AAC. The baseline command uses stereo AAC at 44.1 kHz and 128 Kbps.

- Start FFmpeg and watch its output for missing-file, encoder, mapping, or connection errors. Confirm that it continues sending data rather than exiting after one track.
- In Live Control Room, wait for the incoming preview and check the stream-health messages. Confirm the image appears, audio is audible, and track transitions behave as intended. YouTube recommends testing under conditions similar to the planned broadcast and monitoring stream health.
- For a scheduled stream, click Go live in Live Control Room after the preview appears.
- To stop sending the feed, stop FFmpeg. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; this is not a promise that an indefinitely running stream will continue uninterrupted or be archived without limit. See YouTube’s encoder setup instructions.
5. Troubleshoot common problems
No preview in YouTube
- Check that the server URL and stream key are copied exactly, and that the output protocol matches the URL YouTube provided.
- Check FFmpeg’s log for connection errors and confirm outbound network access to the required destination.
- If the key may have been exposed, reset it in Live Control Room and update the encoder configuration.
No sound
- Use
ffprobeto confirm the playlist input contains an audio stream. - Check the input numbering and explicit
-mapoptions. In the audio-plus-image example, image video is input 0 and playlist audio is input 1. - For a typical RTMP/RTMPS output, encode audio to AAC or MP3; YouTube lists both as supported.
Playlist stops, skips, or has gaps
- Confirm every referenced path exists on the host running FFmpeg and that the concat file starts with
ffconcat version 1.0. - Check that files have compatible streams and that any specified durations are accurate.
- Normalize mismatched files or use a concat-filter workflow with re-encoding where the sources cannot be concatenated reliably as-is.
Buffering or ingest warnings
Lower the target resolution or bitrate to a level supported by YouTube’s guidance and the connection’s reliable sustained upload capacity. A speed test does not guarantee that the same rate will be sustained throughout a broadcast. Test and monitor the actual stream.
RTMPS or SSL connection error
Verify that the copied destination is the RTMPS URL, not an ordinary RTMP URL, and use the port shown by YouTube. YouTube’s RTMPS guidance notes port 443 where applicable to the supplied URL; do not change ports by assumption. See YouTube’s RTMPS guidance.
