Choose the right kind of YouTube Live alert

YouTube Help explicitly says: “You should be aware that Super Chat and Super Stickers aren’t crowdfunding or donation tools.” If your goal is to support your own channel, use Supers if eligible; if you want charitable donations, use YouTube Giving; if you want external tips and custom on-screen alerts, configure a third-party service.
How do I turn on Super Chat and Super Stickers?
Check eligibility first
Your channel must meet YouTube’s fan-funding requirements, be in a supported location, and accept and follow the applicable terms and policies. YouTube’s monetization page, accessed October 3, 2026, lists an early-access YouTube Partner Program tier that includes Supers: 500 subscribers, three public uploads in the last 90 days, and either 3,000 qualified public long-form watch hours in the last 365 days or 3 million qualified Shorts views in the last 90 days. These are tier thresholds, not a guarantee that a specific channel or stream can use Supers; check YouTube’s current requirements because availability and thresholds can change.
Supers are unavailable for age-restricted, unlisted, private, or made-for-kids videos, for YouTube Giving fundraiser videos, and when live chat or comments are turned off. Eligible live streams and Premieres can offer Supers automatically when live chat is on.

Enable Supers in the YouTube Studio mobile app
- Open the YouTube Studio app and tap Earn at the bottom of the screen.
- Open the Supers card. If you see Get started instead, choose it.
- Tap Turn on if prompted and complete the on-screen setup.
- Accept the Commerce Product Module if YouTube asks you to sign it. First-time setup may require this step.
Check Supers on desktop
In YouTube Studio, open Earn > Supers to inspect Supers activity and transactions. Use that area to check whether the feature is available to your channel. Once enabled, tell viewers they can buy highlighted chat messages or stickers; don’t describe these purchases as charitable donations or imply that every viewer will have access.
YouTube Help says creators receive 70% of confirmed Supers revenue, calculated after local sales tax and iOS App Store fees are deducted. This is YouTube’s stated creator-share calculation, not a promise of a particular payout per viewer purchase.

How do I show donation alerts on my stream screen?
YouTube’s native Supers appear in live chat. To show event alerts over your video, configure a third-party alert widget and add it to the scene in your broadcast software. The exact controls can change by provider and software version, so follow the current setup screens in the service you choose.
Set up Streamlabs Alert Box
- In Streamlabs, connect or select the YouTube account you use to stream.
- Open the Alert Box settings and enable the YouTube event types you want, such as subscribers, members, or Super Chats. Customize their appearance and alert variations.
- Add the Alert Box to Streamlabs Desktop using its documented integration. If you use OBS or other broadcast software, add the widget link as a browser source.
- Use the provider’s test function. Confirm the alert is visible and audible as intended in the scene you will stream.
Set up StreamElements AlertBox and tips
- Create an overlay in StreamElements and add an AlertBox widget.
- Display that overlay in your broadcast software through a browser source.
- If you want to accept tips through StreamElements, configure its tipping page separately under Revenue > Tipping Settings.
- Its
!tipcommand can show viewers the tipping-page link in chat. Test the overlay before going live.
Streamlabs and StreamElements alerts are provider features, not YouTube-native donation controls. Keep a widget URL private: anyone who obtains it may be able to misuse it. An alert appearing on screen is not proof that a payment has cleared.

Can I use Streamlabs or StreamElements with YouTube Live?
Yes. Their alert widgets can display YouTube-related events and, when configured, activity associated with their own tipping tools. Streamlabs documents YouTube alert customization for events including subscribers, memberships, and Super Chats. StreamElements documents overlays with AlertBox widgets and a separately configured tipping page. In either case, connect the correct account, enable the event types you want, add the overlay to the scene you will broadcast, and test it before the stream.
For OBS, add the provider’s widget or overlay as a browser source, following the provider’s current instructions. For Streamlabs Desktop, use the documented Alert Box integration. Keep the overlay in the scene that is actually live; a widget placed in another scene will not appear to viewers.

How do I set up charitable donations with YouTube Giving?
- Add the scheduled livestream to a YouTube Giving fundraiser.
- During the stream, viewers can use the donate icon in live chat. If live chat is not enabled, the donate button can appear instead.
- Explain that contributions go to the nonprofit selected for the fundraiser.
YouTube Giving Help states: “100% of your contribution goes to the nonprofit and YouTube will pay transaction fees.” This applies to YouTube Giving; do not assume the same handling for tips processed by a third-party service. YouTube turns off Supers on streams with live chat donations to avoid confusing charitable donations with fan-funding purchases.
Why can’t I see the Supers option in YouTube Studio?
- Your channel may not meet the requirements. Check the current fan-funding and YouTube Partner Program eligibility in Studio, including supported location and required terms.
- The stream may not qualify. Supers are unavailable on private or unlisted streams, age-restricted or made-for-kids content, and YouTube Giving fundraiser videos.
- Live chat or comments may be off. Supers require live chat to be on for the stream.
- You may be looking in the wrong place or app version. On mobile, check Earn for the Supers card or a Get started option. On desktop, check Earn > Supers.
- Availability can vary or change. YouTube’s supported locations, feature requirements, and interface labels may change; check the current YouTube Help guidance and Studio status for your channel.
Fix alerts that do not appear during the live stream
The test alert works, but live events do not
- Confirm the alert service is connected to the YouTube account or channel you are streaming from.
- Check that the specific event type is enabled in the provider’s settings.
- Make sure the alert widget or browser source is present and visible in the scene currently being broadcast.
- Run the provider’s test again and verify both visibility and sound in the intended scene.
A viewer calls a Super Chat a donation
Clarify that a Super Chat or Super Sticker is a fan-funding purchase supporting the creator and highlighting a chat interaction. YouTube Giving is the charitable fundraising option. The two features have different purposes, and live-chat donations disable Supers on that stream.
