To play Cozy Builder with a friend, launch the Steam version, open Multiplayer, choose Host Game, and have your friend join from the same in-game menu or through Steam Friends & Chat. The developer documents co-op for up to four players building together in the same Cozy Vineyard Valley and pursuing shared objectives.
What you need before starting
The documented multiplayer setup is for the Steam release of Cozy Builder. The game is listed on Steam with Online Co-op and was released by Pangea Game Studios and publisher indie.io on October 14, 2026.
- Both players must launch the Steam version. The available setup instructions describe Steam menus and Steam friends.
- Add each other as Steam friends. This is required for the direct Steam Friends & Chat join route and is also the simplest way to find one another in the game.
- Use the host’s Multiplayer menu. The host creates the session; the other players join that session.
- Plan for up to four players. The developer says the game supports solo play or co-op with up to four players.
A controller is not required by the official setup. Steam controller-configuration metadata exists, but the documented process uses the keyboard-and-mouse interface, Steam menus, and the in-game Multiplayer menu rather than a specific controller.
How to host a Cozy Builder multiplayer game
Hosting takes place from the game’s main multiplayer flow. Follow these steps on the Steam account that will create the session:

- Launch Cozy Builder through Steam. Start the game from your Steam library and wait until its main menu is available.
- Open Multiplayer. Select the game’s Multiplayer menu rather than loading a solo session first.
- Select Host Game. The official announcement’s exact instruction is: “Click Host Game in the Multiplayer Menu.” This creates the session your friends will join.
- Tell your Steam friends to join. They can use the in-game Multiplayer menu to find you, or you can have them join directly from Steam Friends & Chat.
- Continue into the valley together. Once the connection is established, players build in the same Cozy Vineyard Valley and work toward shared objectives.
The host should remain in the session while friends connect. The available instructions identify the player who selects Host Game as the session creator, but they do not publish a separate host-transfer procedure or a rule describing what happens if the host leaves.
How a friend joins your hosted session
There are two documented ways to join. Both ultimately connect the friend to the session created through Multiplayer → Host Game.

The developer describes both routes in its June 15, 2026 Steam announcement: friends can join through the in-game Multiplayer menu or by right-clicking the host’s name in Steam Friends & Chat and choosing the game’s join option.

Joining from the in-game menu
- Start Cozy Builder from Steam.
- Open Multiplayer.
- Look for the friend who has already selected Host Game.
- Select that game and wait for the connection to complete.
If the host does not appear, confirm that the host is still on the multiplayer session screen or in the hosted game, that both accounts are Steam friends, and that both players are running the Steam release.
Joining through Steam Friends & Chat
- Ask the host to launch the game and choose Multiplayer → Host Game.
- Open Steam Friends & Chat.
- Find the host in your friends list.
- Right-click the host’s name.
- Choose the game’s join option when it appears.
This route is the most direct documented method because it starts from the host’s Steam presence rather than requiring the friend to locate the session inside the game.
What co-op lets you do
Co-op is built around a shared world rather than separate copies of the valley. Players work in the same Cozy Vineyard Valley, build together, and pursue objectives as a group. The developer states that the game supports solo play or co-op for up to four players.

- Shared objectives: the group progresses toward objectives together rather than following unrelated, isolated goals.
- Four-player maximum: the documented limit is up to four players, including the host.
- Online connection: Steam lists Online Co-op as a game feature.
The published setup information does not define a separate co-op campaign, a host-only task list, player-specific permissions, or a save-transfer system. Treat the host’s session as the authoritative multiplayer session unless the game displays additional information in its own menus.

The documented instructions cover Steam multiplayer only. They do not confirm that a player on a console, another PC storefront, or a different platform can join a Steam host.
There is also no confirmed information in the available official materials about cross-platform multiplayer or cross-platform saves. Do not promise that a friend using a console or another storefront will be able to enter the Steam player’s valley. For a reliable setup, have every participant use the Steam version and join through Steam’s documented friend and multiplayer flows.

Troubleshooting when a friend cannot join
Use this order of checks before looking for advanced networking changes:
- Confirm the edition. Both players should have launched Cozy Builder through Steam, not a different platform version.
- Confirm the friendship status. Make sure the two Steam accounts are friends. The direct join instruction depends on the host appearing in Steam Friends & Chat.
- Confirm the host flow. The host must start from Multiplayer and select Host Game. Starting a solo game does not follow the documented hosting procedure.
- Try the other join route. If the game list does not show the host, try right-clicking the host in Steam Friends & Chat and selecting the game’s join option. If the direct Steam option is unavailable, try the in-game Multiplayer menu.
- Check that the host is still available. A friend cannot join a session that has ended or a host who has left the multiplayer flow.
- Restart the documented flow. Close and relaunch the Steam game, have the host create a new session with Multiplayer → Host Game, and try joining again.
The published materials do not provide a definitive port-forwarding checklist, NAT compatibility matrix, firewall rule set, or platform-specific network repair procedure. Do not apply a generic port number or assume that changing router settings will fix this game. If the join option still does not appear after the Steam, friendship, and host-flow checks, use the game’s Steam Discussions or the developer’s Discord for current support.

Neither route creates a different kind of multiplayer game. They differ mainly in how discoverable the host is and where the friend begins the join action.

Use the in-game route when both players are already at the Multiplayer screen. Use Steam Friends & Chat when the host is easy to identify there and the friend wants a direct join command.
Quick pre-session checklist
- Both players own and launched the Steam version of Cozy Builder.
- The players are Steam friends.
- The host opened Multiplayer and selected Host Game.
- The joining player used either the in-game Multiplayer menu or Steam Friends & Chat.
- The group contains no more than four players.
- Everyone understands that the documented setup is Steam-based and does not establish cross-play.
What to expect after everyone connects
Once the join succeeds, the group plays in one Cozy Vineyard Valley. Coordinate construction and objective progress in that shared space rather than expecting each player to receive a separate valley. The developer’s description focuses on building with friends and completing objectives together; it does not specify additional competitive modes or a second co-op ruleset.
If a later game update changes the menu names or adds platform support, follow the labels shown in your current Steam build and consult the developer’s current support channels. The core documented path remains Multiplayer → Host Game, followed by a friend joining through the in-game menu or Steam Friends & Chat.
