To set up a Motorola Razr+, identify its model year and check whether your carrier supports the SIM or eSIM option you plan to use. Then activate service, complete Android setup, transfer data, install updates and personalize the main and external displays. Menu names and available features differ by generation, software and region, so use the paths below as generation-specific guidance rather than assuming every Razr+ has the same menus.
Before you start: check your Razr+ generation and carrier
Motorola’s North American family guide covers the 2026 Razr, Razr+ and Razr Ultra, but that does not make its screen paths universal to older models or to every carrier and region. Check your phone’s model details and use the guide or support page for that generation before following a specific path. Motorola’s support resources can help you find model-specific information.
Decide how you will activate mobile service. If your phone uses a physical SIM, follow the model’s SIM instructions. For eSIM, check the phone’s device details and contact your carrier: Motorola notes that not all carriers support eSIM. Do not assume an eSIM option is available just because the phone supports it.
Set up the phone and transfer your data
Motorola’s setup guidance covers SIM insertion, powering on, signing in, Wi-Fi, profiles, battery charge and copying data. The sequence below organizes those documented tasks; follow the prompts shown on your own phone, since labels can vary.

- Activate service. Insert a compatible physical SIM if applicable, or arrange eSIM activation with a supporting carrier.
- Power on and follow Android setup. Choose your language and region, connect to Wi-Fi, and sign in to the relevant accounts when prompted. Keep the phone charged during setup.
- Copy data from your old phone. Choose the transfer option during Android setup. For Android-to-Android transfer, Motorola also documents a way to resume later: Settings > Back up or copy data > Copy data using Android Switch. Keep both phones turned on, fully charged and connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
- For an iPhone transfer, choose iPhone in the setup flow. Connect both phones to Wi-Fi and connect them with a suitable cable. Motorola cautions that app data, files stored in iCloud and DRM-protected music may not transfer.
- Install available software updates. Check the phone’s system update settings after initial setup; an update may alter menu labels or appearance.

Customize the main home screen
Adjust the inside display separately from the cover display. On the home screen, Motorola’s current family guide covers arranging apps, adding widgets, changing wallpaper and adjusting display preferences. Press and hold an open area of the home screen to look for the available customization controls; exact labels and options can vary. Motorola’s 2026 family guide notes, “Software updates may change the look of your home screen.”

Some Razr+ generations also offer Moto Personalize controls for themes, fonts, colors, icon shape, display size and text, layout, Peek display, sounds, dark mode and external-display appearance. These are possible options, not a guaranteed menu inventory: Motorola says a phone may not include every feature. The 2023 guide describes that feature set, while newer guides may use different names.
Customize the external display
The cover screen has its own appearance and controls. Motorola’s current family guide describes changing themes, wallpaper, styles, colors, shortcuts and panels. For Razr+ 2025-specific material, Motorola’s Razr+ 2025 support page links to a user guide and other model-specific resources.

Razr+ (2024): wallpaper, clock, shortcuts and panels
For the 2024 model, Motorola provides more detailed external-display instructions for wallpaper, clockface, font and color, app shortcuts, panels, app behavior, Sleep display and Desk display. Follow the 2024 support article’s paths only if you have that generation; other models or software versions may put the controls elsewhere.
Razr+ (2024): Desk display in tent or stand mode
On the 2024 model, Desk display can show a clock or a text-and-picture carousel when the phone is positioned in tent or stand mode. You can add your own content. Motorola recommends keeping “Dim pictures & album covers” enabled in both modes to extend battery life and lessen the risk of image retention. Motorola also says turning off Sleep display makes Desk display unavailable. Check the feature path on your own software version in the 2024 Razr+ display instructions.

Choose how notifications and Quick Settings work
Motorola’s 2026 guide describes two Control Center styles. Choose based on whether you prefer a combined panel or separate swipe areas; the names and availability may differ on other generations.

On supported software, use the Quick Settings edit control to add, remove or rearrange tiles. Access to Control Center from the lock screen is a separate preference that you can enable or disable. Protect the display and choose a compatible case
Motorola’s 2026 guide says not to remove the main-display protector attached at the factory or replace it with a third-party protector; unauthorized removal or replacement may void the warranty. It also warns against films, covers or adhesives that obstruct the air vent. Check the exact model’s guidance before adding accessories.
Motorola’s Razr+ 2025 support page includes a video showing installation of its adjustable crossbody case. That supports a case option for the 2025 generation, not a claim of fit for other Razr+ years or of current retail availability. Verify the exact model-year fit and keep the vent unobstructed.
