To connect a robot vacuum to Wi-Fi, install the app made for that vacuum, add the robot, choose a compatible home Wi-Fi network, enter its password, and complete the pairing prompts in the app. The exact steps depend on the brand and model: some use Bluetooth discovery, some briefly connect your phone to the robot’s temporary Wi-Fi network, and some offer an access-point (AP) setup mode.

Before you start

  • Find the exact model’s setup instructions. Pairing steps and supported Wi-Fi bands vary by model; do not assume every robot needs the same button sequence or network.
  • Install the manufacturer’s official app. Sign in or create an account if prompted, and put the robot on its dock or make sure it has power.
  • Connect your phone to the home Wi-Fi you want the robot to use. Check the robot’s supported band for your model. Some models do not support 5 GHz; Roborock says its devices do not, and iRobot notes that some models do not. ECOVACS’s general preparation guidance calls for an enabled 2.4 GHz signal. See the Roborock Wi-Fi troubleshooting guide, iRobot setup guide, and ECOVACS setup FAQ.
  • Allow the requested phone permissions. Depending on the app and setup method, these may include Bluetooth, location, or local network access. ECOVACS also lists phone internet access and Bluetooth among its preparation steps.

Connect the vacuum in its app

  1. Open the app’s add-device flow. Choose an option such as “Add Robot” or “Add Device,” then select the right model or product family if asked. iRobot’s app searches for nearby products or guides you through model selection; Roborock’s Android instructions begin with device discovery, and its iOS instructions start from the plus icon. See the iRobot setup guide, Roborock Android guide, and Roborock iOS guide.
  2. Put the robot into the pairing mode shown in the app. The prompt may ask you to press a button on the robot, enable Bluetooth, or use another discovery method. Button sequences differ between models, so follow the screen or model instructions rather than trying a sequence from another vacuum.
  3. Select your home router’s Wi-Fi network and enter its password. Check the network name (SSID) carefully. A temporary network broadcast by the robot may appear during pairing, but it is not the home network whose credentials the app needs.
  4. Complete any temporary connection step and wait for confirmation. Some setups ask your phone to join the robot’s own Wi-Fi briefly, then return to the app. Stay in the app until it reports that setup is complete; use the model’s described indicator or app status to confirm connection.

How setup differs by brand

iRobot

The iRobot app searches for nearby products or lets you choose the robot family, then displays model-specific steps. Some iRobot models do not support 5 GHz. For certain newer models, the app-guided flow uses a button to enable the robot’s internal Wi-Fi for phone discovery; older models may follow a different flow. Use the iRobot setup instructions for the specific model.

Roborock

Roborock’s iOS guide has you choose the home Wi-Fi and password, then connect the phone to a temporary network named roborock-vacuum-xxxx when prompted. It describes a solid Wi-Fi indicator as confirmation of a successful connection. The Android guide uses device discovery, location permission, and home Wi-Fi selection. App screens can change, so follow the current prompts in the iOS instructions or Android instructions.

ECOVACS

The ECOVACS global FAQ recommends the ECOVACS HOME app, an enabled 2.4 GHz signal, phone internet access, Bluetooth, and the permissions requested by the app. If Bluetooth search does not find the robot, the FAQ describes AP configuration mode as an alternative. Its Singapore initial-connection page says the models covered there support only 2.4 GHz and not enterprise networks; that is regional, model-specific guidance, not a specification for every DEEBOT. Consult the global setup FAQ and, where relevant, the Singapore initial-connection instructions.

If Wi-Fi setup fails

The app cannot find the vacuum

  • Make sure the robot has power and is in the pairing mode specified for its model.
  • Enable Bluetooth and grant the app’s requested permissions if its setup flow calls for them.
  • Retry the official add-device flow. ECOVACS describes AP mode as an alternative when Bluetooth search does not locate the robot; see its setup FAQ.

Your network is missing or rejected

  • Check which Wi-Fi bands the exact robot model supports and select a visible, compatible home network. Roborock says its devices do not support 5 GHz; do not apply that limit to other brands without checking their instructions.
  • Check router security only against the manufacturer’s guidance. Roborock says WEP is unsupported and advises WPA or WPA2. ECOVACS’s global FAQ advises that the Wi-Fi signal should not be hidden during setup. See the Roborock troubleshooting guide and ECOVACS FAQ.
  • Do not change router settings unless the instructions for your model call for it.

The password is rejected or pairing stalls

  • Re-enter the home Wi-Fi password carefully, and confirm that the app is asking for the router’s password rather than a password for the robot’s temporary network.
  • Roborock lists removing special characters from the network name or password as a troubleshooting option. Treat this as that vendor’s suggestion, not a universal cause or requirement; see its Wi-Fi troubleshooting guide.
  • Roborock also suggests disabling VPN or cellular data during setup. Retry only if those services are interfering with the app’s connection flow.

The robot used to connect but now appears offline

Use the app’s reconnect or change-Wi-Fi option first. If that does not work, iRobot recommends restarting the robot, router, and phone before trying again. For other brands, follow the manufacturer’s own recovery steps; see iRobot’s reconnection guidance.

Setup still will not complete

Contact the manufacturer and provide the exact robot model, app version, phone operating system, router configuration, and any error message. A factory reset or router change is not a universal next step; use one only if the manufacturer’s model-specific instructions recommend it.
