The YouTube broadcast is the viewer-facing event; the stream is the feed carrying video into it. A hosted service can handle that feed in the cloud, but its duration, file support, and controls depend on the provider.
Before you start: check channel eligibility and content rights
- Your channel must be verified and live streaming enabled. YouTube says first-time activation may take up to 24 hours, so enable it ahead of your planned start. Check the channel for restrictions before scheduling.
- YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance says the minimum age is 16 and a channel must have had no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. YouTube may restrict live-streaming access at its discretion. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
- Confirm you have the rights to every video, music track, and other asset you plan to rebroadcast. Public availability or owning a copy does not by itself establish permission for continuous retransmission. Live content must comply with YouTube’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Service.
- Choose an appropriate visibility setting: public, private, or unlisted. YouTube says the default is private for streamers aged 13–17 and public for those 18 or older; streamers can change it. Review the setting before creating or scheduling the event.
Understand the broadcast, stream, and stream key
YouTube treats the event viewers watch and the video feed sent to YouTube as related but distinct things. Google’s Live Streaming API guide, updated September 14, 2026, explains: “A broadcast represents an event that can be watched on YouTube as it happens. Each broadcast is a distinct YouTube video.” It also says: “A stream enables you to transmit audio-video content to YouTube, and it defines the settings for how you stream your content to YouTube.” You can reuse a stream configuration for broadcasts at different times; the broadcast is still its own YouTube video. A service may connect through YouTube authorization or ask you to provide the server URL and stream key from YouTube Studio. Treat the key like a password: do not share or publish it, and reset it if it is exposed.
Set up the hosted YouTube stream
- Enable live streaming. In YouTube Studio, check that live streaming is available for the channel. If this is the first activation, allow up to 24 hours before launch.
- Create or schedule the broadcast. In YouTube Studio, select Create > Go Live to open the Live Control Room. Create a stream or use the Manage tab to schedule one. Enter the title and other event details, and deliberately set its visibility. Scheduled events can be promoted and viewers may receive reminders.
- Connect the hosted service. Follow the provider’s current connection flow. If it offers channel authorization, connect the correct YouTube channel. If it asks for ingest details, copy the server URL and stream key from YouTube Studio into the service’s stream or encoder settings.
- Select your video or playlist. Choose the source in the hosted service and check its format and rights requirements. Providers differ in which formats and storage locations they accept; do not assume another service has the same controls or limits.
- Set the start time and duration. Choose whether to start immediately or schedule a later start, then set the duration supported by that service. Verify the scheduled event and its timing in YouTube Studio as well as in the provider dashboard.
- Confirm the feed before relying on it. Check that the service reports the stream as active and that the Live Control Room shows the incoming preview or live event on the intended channel. For an encoder-based flow, YouTube’s instructions call for waiting for the preview and then selecting Go live; a hosted provider may manage that step through its own integration.
OneStream’s documented 24/7 workflow and limits
OneStream Live’s help article, updated September 3, 2026, documents one example of a hosted prerecorded workflow: choose videos from a device, its storage, or cloud storage; connect a YouTube channel; enter stream details; choose an immediate or later start; set a duration in days; and schedule the broadcast. These are OneStream’s instructions, not universal YouTube or hosted-service requirements. OneStream says its 24/7 feature is YouTube-only, requires its Enterprise plan, and allows a maximum scheduled duration of 30 days. Check its current instructions at OneStream’s 24/7 streaming guide.

Verify the stream and plan for interruptions
Before scheduling, check the channel, broadcast title, visibility, source video or playlist, start time, and expected duration. After it starts, confirm both the provider’s active status and the incoming event in YouTube Studio. Know what the provider does when a scheduled duration ends, the source finishes, or the connection is interrupted; restart and monitoring behavior vary by service and are not guaranteed by YouTube’s setup instructions.
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not assume a longer continuous stream will be automatically archived based on that guidance. Nor should you assume a continuous stream will remain connected indefinitely or qualify for monetization or watch-hour eligibility; those outcomes are not established by the setup documentation.

Choose a hosted service by the constraints that matter
Compare providers on the aspects that affect your particular channel and workflow rather than assuming all hosted services work alike:
- Whether it accepts prerecorded files or playlists, and which formats and source locations it supports.
- Maximum continuous or scheduled duration, and whether a stream must be renewed or restarted manually.
- Whether you authorize the YouTube channel or configure the server URL and stream key yourself.
- How it reports interruptions, attempts recovery, and provides support.
- Storage, upload, and any egress limits, plus the total plan cost for the period you need.
YouTube’s encoder setup guidance describes the server URL and stream-key connection used in encoder workflows. The provider-specific guide above illustrates a hosted prerecorded workflow. These sources do not establish a like-for-like feature, reliability, or price comparison across hosted services, so verify current terms with the provider you are considering.
