For a recurring schedule, calculate each event’s UTC start time from the intended named time zone and date; YouTube’s documented API schedules an absolute timestamp, not a recurring local-time rule. Scheduling the event does not start or automate the audio feed by itself.
What a scheduled YouTube radio stream requires
There are two separate parts: the live event, which creates the scheduled broadcast and its watch page, and the feed, which an encoder sends to YouTube. YouTube Studio can create and manage the event, but a computer, hardware encoder, or cloud playout service still has to provide the audio (and any video) and follow the event’s start and stop behavior.
- Event: title, description, thumbnail, visibility, and scheduled start time.
- Feed: encoder configured with the event’s YouTube server URL and stream key.
- Schedule logic: for repeating local-time broadcasts, a person or scheduling system must calculate the correct start instant for each date.
YouTube says first-time live-stream activation may take up to 24 hours, so check channel eligibility before the intended launch. YouTube’s live-streaming help covers scheduling and setup.
Create the scheduled event in YouTube Studio
- In YouTube Studio, choose Create > Go live, then open Manage in Live Control Room.
- Select Schedule stream. Create a new event or reuse settings from an earlier stream.
- Set the title, description, thumbnail, visibility, and intended start time. A scheduled event can be promoted and shared, and viewers may be able to set reminders.
- Configure your encoder for the event. Choose YouTube as the destination if supported; otherwise enter the YouTube server URL and stream key in the encoder’s stream settings.
- Start the encoder and wait for its preview to appear in Live Control Room. Follow the on-screen go-live flow for the event; do not assume that creating the schedule also starts the feed.
Protect the stream key
Treat the stream key as a credential: YouTube describes it as the stream’s “password and address.” Do not publish or share it. If it is exposed, reset it through Live Control Room and update the encoder with the replacement key. See YouTube’s guidance on stream keys.

Make a recurring schedule follow local time
Decide what the schedule means before creating events. “Every weekday at 7:00 p.m. Europe/London” is a local-time rule; it is not the same as “every weekday at 19:00 UTC.” Store the recurrence against the named time zone, calculate the UTC instant for each date, and schedule that event for the converted instant. A named zone carries daylight-saving rules; a fixed offset such as UTC+0 does not.
This conversion is schedule logic you or your scheduling software must supply. The YouTube Live Streaming API accepts an ISO 8601 scheduled start time for an individual broadcast; it does not, in the cited documentation, define a recurring local-time schedule. For example, 2026-10-30T19:00:00Z is a UTC instant, not a universal expression of 7 p.m. local time. Recalculate for each date rather than reusing a fixed UTC time across a daylight-saving change.
The API requires snippet.title, snippet.scheduledStartTime, and status.privacyStatus when inserting a broadcast. The scheduled start must be in the future and within the period YouTube allows for reliable scheduling. Optional fields include scheduled end time and settings such as auto-start, auto-stop, recording, and DVR, subject to API support and the broadcast’s state. Consult the Live Streaming API insert documentation for current requirements and restrictions.

Test both sides of clock changes
For a recurring schedule in a region that changes clocks seasonally, verify the UTC conversion for dates immediately before and after the transition. Also check calendar changes that affect the recurrence, such as holidays or weekday rules. This is a reliability check for your time-zone calculation, not a YouTube feature.
Choose Studio or the Live Streaming API
| Route | Best suited to | What it handles |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube Studio | A creator managing a small number of events manually. | Creating an event, reusing settings, sharing the watch page, and handling preview and go-live in Live Control Room. |
| Live Streaming API | Software or an operator generating many future events. | Creating timestamped broadcast resources and binding them to a stream; your scheduling system must calculate each UTC start time. |
Google’s API distinguishes a liveBroadcast (the scheduled event) from a liveStream (the audio-video feed and stream settings). In its recurring-event design, a channel can configure one live stream for encoder reuse, then create distinct broadcast events and bind them to that stream. Only one event is live at a time in that scenario. See the broadcast resource documentation and the stream resource documentation.
Prepare and monitor the radio feed
Before a real broadcast, check that the encoder sends to the intended event and that the preview contains clean, continuous audio. Confirm the event’s visibility and watch-page accessibility from the audience’s perspective. YouTube recommends setting up an encoder at least two hours before the event, starting it at least 15 minutes beforehand, and monitoring stream quality continuously. These are YouTube’s operational recommendations, not a guarantee that a feed or automated schedule will start without intervention. Review YouTube’s encoder setup and streaming guidance.

Plan continuous radio separately from event scheduling
A scheduled event is not an audio source, playlist, or playout automation. If you want unattended prerecorded playback, configure and test the system that plays the recordings, sends the feed, and handles event start and stop. Confirm how it recovers after a connection failure rather than assuming YouTube’s event schedule will restart a dropped encoder.
YouTube’s encoder help says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That guidance does not establish a reliable single-event design for uninterrupted, multi-day 24/7 radio or guarantee how a longer stream will be archived. Treat continuous operation, restart recovery, and duration as separate design decisions; verify the current limits for the specific workflow you plan to use.

Do not confuse live-stream scheduling with scheduled publication of an uploaded video. YouTube’s separate scheduled video publication instructions include a time-zone selector and say the published-on date is based on Pacific Standard Time. That page concerns uploaded video publication, not scheduled live broadcasts, so its selector and date behavior should not be assumed to apply to Live Control Room.

Troubleshoot common scheduling problems
The stream does not appear at the expected local time
Check the event’s scheduled timestamp and the time zone used to generate it. If the event was created through the API, confirm that the ISO 8601 value represents the intended UTC instant for that date. Recalculate after daylight-saving transitions; a fixed offset can shift a local-time recurrence.
The event exists, but there is no preview
The event page is not the feed. Confirm that the encoder is running and configured with the correct event destination, server URL, and stream key. Wait for the preview in Live Control Room before following the go-live flow.
The encoder cannot connect after a key change
Check whether the key was reset or replaced in Live Control Room. Update the encoder with the current key, and keep the new key private.

The scheduled event is live, but the radio audio is silent or interrupted
Inspect the audio source and playout system as well as the encoder connection. A scheduled event cannot restore missing source audio; monitor the feed and test the complete playback path before relying on automation.
A long-running stream is not archived as expected
The stated automatic-archive guidance applies to streams under 12 hours. It does not promise an archive for every multi-day broadcast. Plan recordings and continuity around the behavior documented for your actual event duration.
Or let it run in the cloud
If the goal is prerecorded YouTube radio that keeps playing without leaving a home computer on, StreamNeo runs the uploaded videos from the cloud. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; there is one price per slot for any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month.
