Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesTo run a prerecorded or generated YouTube feed continuously from Hetzner Cloud, use a Cloud Server as the encoder host: enable live streaming on your YouTube channel, configure an encoder with YouTube’s server URL and stream key, and supervise the encoder and network connection. For Indian creators, Hetzner’s Singapore location is a candidate to test—not a proven lowest-latency choice. A 24/7 setup describes your intended operation, not an end-to-end uptime guarantee.
How do I set up a 24/7 YouTube live stream on a VPS?
The VPS reads your video source and sends an encoded live feed to YouTube. YouTube still requires a live-enabled channel and the server URL and stream key shown in Live Control Room. The steps below use a Hetzner Cloud Server; encoder commands and service files depend on your media source, operating system, and chosen software, so validate them on your own instance before relying on a continuous broadcast.
1. Enable YouTube live streaming and create a stream
- In YouTube Studio, enable live streaming for the channel. First-time activation may take up to 24 hours, according to YouTube’s encoder setup guidance.
- Open Live Control Room and create or select a stream. Copy the displayed server URL and stream key into your encoder’s connection settings.
- Treat the stream key like a password: do not put it in public scripts, screenshots, repositories, or logs. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.
Confirm the channel can start a test stream before provisioning a server for ongoing use. Follow YouTube’s current channel and live-stream requirements in Studio; the steps here do not establish eligibility beyond the first-time activation guidance above.
2. Pick a Hetzner Cloud location and plan
Hetzner lists Cloud locations in Falkenstein, Nuremberg, and Helsinki in Europe; Ashburn and Hillsboro in the US; and Singapore in ap-southeast. Its Singapore product page explicitly addresses creators in India and surrounding markets, making Singapore a reasonable location to evaluate. Location alone does not establish the best route: the available sources provide no measurements from your ISP or from each region to YouTube’s ingestion edge. Test the route you will actually use before committing to a continuous workload.

Compare candidate plans on measured network quality, CPU architecture and encoding needs, included outbound traffic, recurring server and overage charges, and the backup and recovery support you require. The cited provider information does not establish which server size is sufficient for a particular codec or resolution, or provide comparative CPU benchmarks or India-to-ingest latency tests.
3. Estimate monthly outbound traffic
Hetzner’s traffic documentation lists 0.5–5 TB per month for Singapore CX and CPX Cloud Servers, depending on plan; the cited page was last changed on 2024-05-21, so verify the current allowance for the exact plan before ordering. YouTube recommends 4 Mbps for H.264 at 720p30. At that nominal video bitrate, a continuous 30-day feed carries roughly 1.3 TB of video payload by arithmetic, before protocol overhead, reconnects, other system traffic, or bitrate variation. This is a planning estimate, not a quoted allowance or bill.

4. Configure the encoder for YouTube
Use a compatible encoder that can read your source and push a live feed. YouTube recommends RTMPS, the secure extension of RTMP. Its guidance lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 options, frame rates up to 60 fps, constant bitrate (CBR), and a two-second keyframe interval (four seconds maximum). For H.264, the recommended bitrates include:
| Output | YouTube-recommended H.264 bitrate |
|---|---|
| 720p at 30 fps | 4 Mbps |
| 720p at 60 fps | 6 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 10 Mbps |
| 1080p at 60 fps | 12 Mbps |
Use the settings appropriate to your source and check YouTube’s live encoder settings guidance before deployment, since technical recommendations can change. Enter the server URL and stream key from Live Control Room in the encoder. The sources do not establish a preferred FFmpeg or OBS configuration for a Hetzner instance, and this guide does not provide a tested command or server-service file.

This multi-screen setup eliminates constant window-switching for traders, programmers, and office workers.
- 【Dual 2.5GbE LAN Ports for Advanced Networking】 Experience fast wired network transmission speeds up to 2500Mbps without lagging or buffering. The integration of dual 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet ports (powered by Realtek RTL8125 controller) makes this compact computer an exceptional hardware choice for tech enthusiasts. Easily configure it into software routers, hardware firewalls (pfSense, OpnSense), home NAS servers, or local homelabs.
5. Secure and supervise the server
Hetzner says its Cloud Firewalls block inbound traffic unless a rule allows it, while outbound traffic is allowed by default when no outbound rules are configured. A push-only encoder generally does not need its video-ingest port exposed to the public internet. Keep only necessary management access, and restrict SSH to the access methods you actually use. This is security guidance inferred from the firewall behavior, not a provider-mandated firewall recipe.
For a continuous setup, arrange a process supervisor or restart policy, health checks, and alerts as appropriate for your operating system and encoder. Monitor the encoder process, disk space, server egress, YouTube preview and stream status, and alert delivery. These are implementation recommendations, not tested instructions or a guarantee that every part of the path will recover automatically.

Can I run a YouTube live stream continuously from Hetzner Cloud?
You can configure the server and encoder to keep sending a feed, but “24/7” is not a promise that the whole broadcast chain will stay available. Hetzner’s Cloud and vServer service agreement describes commercially reasonable efforts toward 99.9% monthly availability for each Cloud Server. That statement is subject to the agreement’s conditions and applies to the server—not the complete chain of media source, encoder, network route, YouTube ingestion, and public watch page.
Hetzner bills a Cloud Server while it exists, including when it is powered off. Its billing FAQ says outbound traffic beyond the included amount is charged in 100 MB blocks; the 75% and 100% usage notices do not stop traffic. Check current prices and plan details in Hetzner Console before provisioning, and watch usage throughout the billing period.

Plan the stream’s archive separately
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived when sending stops. Do not assume one uninterrupted stream longer than 12 hours will create a complete permanent archive. If keeping the recording matters, plan deliberate stream segments and verify the current archive behavior in the channel’s Live Control Room.
