You can run a 24/7 snowstorm ambience stream on YouTube with a prepared visual-and-audio loop, a YouTube Live stream, and either a local encoder that stays online or a cloud service that plays your uploaded video. First clear the rights to both picture and sound, then test the stream before making it public. A continuous loop is not guaranteed to be monetizable, and YouTube does not automatically archive streams that run longer than 12 hours.
Before you start: eligibility, media, and rights
Check that your channel can livestream
YouTube says a channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. The streamer must be at least 16 years old. First-time livestream activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it well before your planned launch. See YouTube’s livestreaming eligibility guidance.
Clear the snowstorm visuals and ambience audio
You need permission to transmit both the visuals and the sound, and to retain them in any archived replay. Save licenses or written permissions. A track described as free to download is not necessarily cleared for a livestream. YouTube scans live broadcasts for third-party content and may interrupt or terminate a stream. Even with a license, a rights owner may need to allowlist your channel in Content ID to prevent an interruption. Review YouTube’s Terms of Service and YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance, and confirm any required allowlisting with the rights owner before launch.
Make the loop comfortable to watch
Prepare a snowstorm scene and sound bed that can repeat without an abrupt visual jump, silence, or volume spike. There is no universally required loop length, frame rate, or sound mix for this kind of stream; choose settings that suit your source and the internet connection you can sustain. Test the exact playback route you plan to use, including the transition from the end of the loop back to its beginning.

Choose how to keep the stream running
Local encoder: direct control, local dependencies
A software encoder or standalone hardware encoder sends your prepared scene and audio to YouTube. You control the playback and encoder, but the computer or hardware, power, encoder, and internet connection must remain available. Plan how someone—or a recovery process—will notice and respond if playback or the connection stops.
Cloud relay: less dependence on a home computer
A cloud relay plays pre-recorded media from a provider’s infrastructure and sends it to YouTube. YouTube’s encoder help information lists services for 24/7 streaming of pre-recorded video; that listing is not an endorsement or guarantee. Before choosing a provider, verify its current price, supported formats, scheduling, recovery behavior, archive handling, support, and availability for your location.

Create the YouTube livestream

In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go live. Create a stream, or open the Manage tab to schedule one. Scheduling can provide an upcoming watch page and let viewers set reminders.

In Live Control Room, configure the stream and open Stream settings. Copy the stream URL and stream key into the encoder’s matching server and key fields. The key is a credential that allows an encoder to send a feed to your stream; keep it private and reset it in Live Control Room if it is exposed.

Write a title and description that accurately describe a snowstorm ambience loop. Do not imply the scene is live weather or footage from a real location unless that is true. Set the privacy, category, and thumbnail to match the experience. You may add tags, but YouTube says tags have a minimal discovery role except where viewers commonly misspell a term.

Select the stream’s latency setting based on whether you need interaction. A non-interactive ambience stream usually has little need for low latency; YouTube notes that lower latency can increase playback buffering.
Configure the encoder and test before launch
Choose a sustainable video and audio configuration
Use RTMPS for encrypted ingest when your encoder supports it. Choose resolution, frame rate, and bitrate from YouTube’s current live encoder settings, taking account of the source and measured upload capacity. There is no single snowstorm preset: a setting that exceeds a connection’s stable upload capacity can cause stream-health problems. YouTube transcodes a live input into multiple viewer formats, so the source and ingest settings should be selected to work reliably rather than simply maximized.

Run a private or unlisted test

Set up the encoder well ahead of launch. YouTube recommends configuring it at least two hours before a scheduled event and starting it at least 15 minutes beforehand.

Start the encoder and check the Live Control Room preview and stream health before clicking Go Live. Confirm that the correct snowstorm picture and audio arrive, that sound is audible and not distorted, and that the loop transition behaves as intended.

Open the watch page from the channel, and check that it plays on another device such as a phone. Confirm that the title, thumbnail, privacy, and audio are right from a viewer’s perspective.

If you have configured a backup encoder, test the failover by stopping the primary encoder or disconnecting its network path. A backup that has not been tested should not be assumed to take over correctly.

Keep monitoring sound, picture, and stream health while broadcasting. These checks reduce avoidable launch problems but do not guarantee uninterrupted delivery.

Plan for interruptions and recovery
For a local setup, decide who or what will notice a stopped feed, how the source and encoder will restart, and how an operator can reach the computer and Live Control Room remotely. For a cloud service, confirm the provider’s recovery process and what you must do if YouTube or the provider interrupts the stream. Do not assume a service can resume a stream without checking its current terms and controls.
Understand YouTube’s archive limit
YouTube says livestreams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Its encoder guidance does not promise automatic archiving for streams that last longer than 12 hours, so a 24-hour broadcast should not be treated as a guaranteed complete replay. If an archive matters, consider planned stream rotations and make a local recording. YouTube recommends checking that local archive files remain intact and continue to grow; an external SSD is optional storage, not a requirement for streaming.
Set realistic monetization expectations
Monetization depends on the channel’s eligibility for the relevant YouTube features and on YouTube’s review of the channel. YouTube’s policy, updated July 15, 2025, calls repetitive or mass-produced material “inauthentic content.” Reviewers may consider the channel’s theme, popular and recent videos, share of watch time, metadata, and About section. A simple ambience loop repeated at scale is therefore a monetization risk, not a dependable passive-income plan.
