YouTube Studio creates the live broadcast, but it does not loop your lecture file for you. To run a recorded lecture continuously, create an encoder stream in YouTube Studio, connect streaming software or a hardware encoder that can repeat the file, and test the complete setup before leaving it unattended. A 24/7 broadcast may not be archived by YouTube, so keep a separate recording or upload the lecture as a regular video for on-demand viewing.
What you need before setup
- A YouTube channel eligible for live streaming. YouTube’s current guidance says the channel must be verified and have no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. Its general live-streaming guidance sets a minimum age of 16. First-time live-stream activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it before your planned launch. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
- A finished lecture video and a software or hardware encoder that supports YouTube Live and can repeat local prerecorded media. YouTube supports both encoder categories, but loop and automatic-restart controls depend on the tool you choose; verify those features in its current documentation.
- A stable internet connection with enough upload capacity. YouTube recommends roughly 20% more upload bandwidth than the total stream bitrate and warns that shared networks can leave less bandwidth available than expected. See YouTube’s streaming tips.
- Permission to stream and archive every component of the lecture, including music, slides, video clips, and images.
- A plan for recording and replaying the lecture independently of YouTube’s live archive.
Prepare the lecture and encoder
Check the file and playback behavior
Use a complete, finished recording with intelligible audio. Decide whether to include a slate or transition between repetitions. Configure the selected playback or encoder tool to repeat the file, and verify that it can restart playback after an interruption if unattended operation requires that behavior. YouTube Studio supplies the broadcast endpoint; it does not establish a repeat setting for your uploaded lecture.
Plan power, network, and recovery
With a local software encoder, the computer running it and its network connection must remain available for the stream to continue. A dedicated hardware encoder is another option, but confirm that its documentation covers your intended file-looping and restart workflow before relying on it. In either case, test what happens if the internet connection drops, the encoder restarts, or the source file reaches its end.
Create the live stream in YouTube Studio
- Enable live streaming early. Confirm channel eligibility and turn on live streaming before launch. First-time activation may take up to 24 hours.
- Open the Live Control Room. In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live. Choose the Stream workflow to create the broadcast and enter its title, description, visibility, and other metadata. YouTube’s encoder setup instructions cover the Studio workflow; interface labels can change.
- Schedule the event if viewers need a page in advance. Use the Live Control Room’s Manage workflow to schedule a stream and share its event page. Set the intended visibility and check that the channel can use it.
- Copy the connection details. Copy the YouTube server URL and stream key shown for the stream. Add them to the encoder’s YouTube integration or its RTMP server and stream-key fields. Treat the key like a password; if it is exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.
- Start the encoder and inspect the preview. Start playback and confirm that the Live Control Room receives the feed. Check the video, audio, metadata, and stream status before starting the public broadcast.
Test the full 24/7 setup before launch
Run a private or unlisted test first. Verify the loop, audio, watch page, and playback on both a phone and a computer. If local recording is enabled, confirm that the recording exists and continues to grow. If you rely on automatic restart or backup ingestion, deliberately test that failure path rather than assuming it works.

When using an adapter, if the device is recognized as USB 2.0, try using the other side with the USB-C port. Simply flip the capture card and reconnect it to be recognized as USB 3.0
YouTube’s published event-preparation guidance recommends setting up an encoder at least two hours ahead, starting it at least 15 minutes before an event, checking the Live Control Room preview, testing encoder failover, confirming event access, and monitoring audio and video continuously. Treat those timings as useful prelaunch test advice, not a guarantee of uptime for a continuous installation. See YouTube’s streaming tips.
Protect the lecture archive
Do not count on one continuous 24/7 broadcast becoming a complete replay. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. DVR rewind can also be limited or unavailable on streams longer than 12 hours. See YouTube’s guidance on archiving live streams and DVR on live streams.
For dependable on-demand access, keep a local copy and publish the lecture as a normal YouTube video. If you need YouTube’s live archive, consider separate broadcasts shorter than 12 hours, while accounting for the transitions, restarts, and operational work involved. A local recording protects against archive gaps but still needs its own storage and backup plan.

Handle copyright, privacy, and chat
YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches. When it identifies third-party content, it may replace the live feed with a placeholder; continued use can interrupt or terminate the broadcast. YouTube’s live terms make the content provider responsible for having the rights needed to exploit the live and archived material. Review YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams and its livestream terms and conditions.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Confirm that the channel is authorized to livestream any licensed material and arrange any required Content ID allowlisting.
- Check permissions for background music, quoted clips, images, and slides—not just the lecture recording itself.
- Keep personal or confidential details out of slides and choose the intended stream visibility.
- If chat is enabled, decide who will monitor it and how to handle inappropriate or sensitive posts.
Choose an encoder that fits the job
Software and hardware encoders can both send a feed to YouTube Live. Before choosing one, check the specific product’s current documentation for these capabilities; YouTube’s encoder guidance does not establish which individual tools can loop files or recover automatically.
- Compatibility with YouTube Live and the available ingestion method.
- Continuous repeat playback of a prerecorded local file.
- Automatic restart and backup or failover behavior.
- Local recording and how recordings recover after interruptions.
- What equipment, power, and network connection must stay on.
- Purchase or subscription cost and the work needed to operate and monitor it.
Common problems and fixes
YouTube receives no encoder signal
Check that the encoder is running, the server URL and stream key match the stream in YouTube Studio, and the network can upload. If the key was reset or exposed, replace it in the encoder settings. Wait for the Live Control Room preview before starting the broadcast.

The lecture stops at the end of the file
The repeat behavior belongs to the playback or encoder tool, not the YouTube Studio stream setup described here. Check that tool’s loop setting and test the transition from the final frame back to the beginning. Also test what happens after a restart.
The video or audio is unstable
Check the encoder’s output and available upload bandwidth. Leave roughly 20% headroom above the total stream bitrate, as YouTube recommends, and account for other users or devices sharing the connection. Monitor the Live Control Room and the viewer experience rather than assuming a successful preview means the connection will remain stable.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsThe stream ends or is interrupted unexpectedly
Check for a network disruption, encoder or computer shutdown, playback failure, or a third-party-content interruption. Review the encoder’s restart and failover behavior, then test recovery before returning to unattended operation.
