What’s actually slowing this PC down?

You can stream recorded CA Foundation classes continuously by sending a prerecorded lesson playlist to YouTube Live through an encoder, but YouTube alone does not guarantee uninterrupted playback or a complete 24-hour archive. First enable live streaming on an eligible channel, configure the encoder with YouTube’s stream URL and key, test the playlist and recovery behavior, and keep a separate local recording. YouTube warns that a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all.
What you need for a continuous classes stream
- A YouTube channel that is verified and has no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. First-time live-stream enablement may take up to 24 hours, so do it ahead of launch. See YouTube’s live-stream eligibility guidance.
- Recorded lessons and permission to broadcast every included element, including slides, audio, music, and other material.
- An encoder capable of sending the lesson files to YouTube Live. YouTube supports encoder software and dedicated hardware encoders; its setup guidance does not require a particular product.
- A stable internet connection with sufficient upload capacity, plus a tested plan for power, network, and encoder interruptions.
- Local storage for a backup recording. Do not make YouTube’s archive the only copy of the broadcast.
Set up the stream with an encoder
- Enable live streaming. In YouTube Studio, follow the live-stream setup process for your channel. Confirm the channel is verified and eligible, and allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation.
- Create or select a live stream. In YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, create or choose the stream you will use. Copy its stream URL and stream key.
- Configure the encoder destination. In the encoder’s streaming or destination settings, enter the YouTube stream URL and key. Keep the stream key private as you would a password; do not include it in screenshots or share it with viewers.
- Set the video output. Choose resolution, frame rate, codec, bitrate, and keyframe interval using YouTube’s current encoder settings guidance. Match the output to the source lessons and available upload bandwidth. YouTube recommends RTMPS for secure ingest. Test with the actual lessons, since slides, motion, and audio can behave differently from a sample screen.
- Start a private or unlisted test feed. Start the encoder and wait for the incoming preview in Live Control Room. Check that video and audio are present and that the watch page works on desktop and mobile before making the stream public.
- Start the broadcast and monitor it. YouTube’s streaming tips recommend setting up an encoder at least two hours before an event, starting it at least 15 minutes before the planned start, and monitoring stream quality. For a 24/7 channel, apply the same care during the initial launch and monitor the feed and local recording routinely.
Prepare and test the recorded lesson playlist
YouTube’s encoder workflow establishes how to send a feed to Live Control Room; it does not certify a specific third-party player or automation configuration for looping lessons or resuming a playlist after failure. Test those behaviors in your chosen encoder before relying on it in public.
- Confirm lessons play in the intended order and that transitions do not leave long black or silent gaps.
- Test whether the playlist repeats as expected, including what happens at the final file and when a lesson file is missing or damaged.
- Simulate or observe an encoder restart, brief network interruption, and power interruption. Check what viewers see and whether playback resumes at the intended point.
- Enable local recording if your workflow supports it. Confirm that the recording file opens and that its size continues to grow while the stream runs.
- Review the stream from the viewer’s watch page on more than one device, not only from the encoder preview.
Plan for YouTube’s 12-hour archive limit
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived; if a stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all. That means a single continuous 24/7 session should not be treated as a guaranteed complete YouTube replay. YouTube recommends recording a local archive as a backup; keep and verify that copy independently. If separate YouTube archives matter, design and test shorter sessions rather than assuming a particular restart schedule will work for every channel. See YouTube’s archive guidance.
Protect continuity and stay within your rights
Upload bandwidth and interruptions
YouTube recommends 20% upload-bandwidth headroom and says to include both primary and backup bitrates when calculating required capacity. A connection disruption can break the feed, so test from the actual location and under realistic network conditions. A 24/7 schedule also needs a recovery plan for the encoder, computer, power, and internet; do not assume uninterrupted operation without testing it. More preparation advice is in YouTube’s streaming tips.

Rights to course material
Before streaming, confirm you have the rights needed for the lessons and all included content. YouTube’s livestream terms and conditions place responsibility on providers to have the necessary rights for live content on Google services, including relevant music licensing rights, and to comply with applicable law. A class recording’s educational purpose does not by itself establish permission to rebroadcast third-party material.
Common problems and fixes
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| You cannot start a live stream | Live streaming is not enabled, first-time activation is still processing, or the channel has a restriction. | Check channel verification and live-stream eligibility in YouTube Studio; allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation. |
| Live Control Room shows no incoming video | The encoder destination URL or stream key is incorrect, or the encoder has not started sending. | Compare the encoder’s destination settings with the stream URL and key in Studio, then restart the feed and check the preview. |
| Video stutters or drops | Upload bandwidth is inadequate or unstable for the selected bitrate. | Check actual upload capacity, leave YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom, and test a suitable output bitrate. |
| The playlist stops or does not repeat | The chosen encoder or playlist configuration may not loop or recover as expected. | Test file order, end-of-playlist behavior, restarts, and interruption recovery before publishing. YouTube’s encoder guidance does not validate a particular looping tool. |
| A long broadcast is missing from archives | The stream exceeded 12 hours; YouTube says such streams may not be captured at all. | Keep a verified local recording and, if YouTube replays are necessary, test a shorter-session schedule. |
| The local backup is incomplete | Recording was not enabled, storage ran out, or the file stopped growing. | Check recording settings and available storage; open the file and verify it continues to grow during the broadcast. |

Frequently Asked Questions
Can a 24-hour YouTube livestream become a complete archive?
No complete archive is guaranteed: YouTube says streams over 12 hours may not be captured at all.
Does YouTube itself loop prerecorded lessons for 24/7 playback?
YouTube’s encoder setup instructions explain sending a feed, but do not validate a particular prerecorded-video looping or recovery tool. Test that behavior in the encoder you choose.
